I did my first C25K training 'run' last night and it nearly killed me Blush. My knees objected strongly but I ploughed on...sort of.

2nd run tomorrow - how do I survive it?

Hurrah i have just completed w6r1! And found it strangely enjoyable. Those hiding endorphins have briefly made an appearance.

Well done everyone running. We are doing great Grin

Thedeepbluesea · 22/06/2016 15:35

Although i have now just succumbed to a mini bagel which is not so good for my fasting day Hmm

FairNotFair · 22/06/2016 17:52

My wolfs are OK but my thighs are AGONY after W1D2! Please tell me this gets easier!

Thedeepbluesea · 22/06/2016 18:05

fairnotfair i promise it gets better! Not perhaps easier but you start to be quite pleased with yourself when you look back.

But my heels are shot to pieces, wolfs have always been fine.

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 22/06/2016 18:28

It gets better! I did 25 mins non stop today and I think I'm getting endorphins! Never had them before. I have eaten 2 packets of crisps now though Blush but I'm calorie tracking through my Fitbit so although I'm not dieting I am monitoring what I eat.

QuickBringWine · 22/06/2016 19:19

It gets better!! I promise!! I spent most of week one hobbling because I'd hurt my left calf and week two hobbling because I'd hurt my left thigh but by week three I was okay, just achey!! And even the achey is a good kind of achey!!
W4 d2 done now and it was so much better than day 1!! I almost enjoyed parts of it (bloody endorphins are out to get me!) and found it much easier than Monday's run!! Changed my route a bit which may have helped too, bit hillier today but I think the change of scenery helped!

AStreetcarNamedBob · 22/06/2016 19:41

Well done everyone! I have w4d1 tomorrow which includes a few 4 min runs. Hoping it goes ok!

2ManySweets · 22/06/2016 21:09

Skipped out w2r3 by accident today when I realised I was actually doing week 3! Managed it by LOTS OF CALM BREATHING 😳 and lived to tell the tale. Looking forward to w3r2 already

tropical1 · 23/06/2016 08:22

Did W3R2 yesterday, nice to only have four runs but I can't imagine running 20 minutes non stop within a couple of weeks!
I'm really enjoying it so far despite the blisters and anyone who knows me in RL would never think I would start running.
I'm hoping it will start to tone up my bottom and thighs at some point... does it take long to see an improvement? I'm flabby but not massive!

anonymousbird · 23/06/2016 13:53

Wk3R1 today. It's going well, but today was 2 x 2.5 mins and 2 x 1.5 mins running. I survived, but how the HELL am I going to run 5 or 6 consecutive minutes in two weeks' time and then 8 minutes and 2 x 5 minutes on the next run? I simply cannot imagine it actually happening!

What do you see on your run? Today I ran along the side of an A road (scary!), past the polling station, over two level crossings, a river, a ford and past a factory! All in two miles!!

anonymousbird · 23/06/2016 13:55

tropical - hadn't read your post properly before I posted! I can't imagine 8, let alone 20. Confused.

Have you told anyone you are running? I haven't told a soul, not DH, not DC, not my closest friends. Suspect neighbours may have spotted me, but we are quite new here so not especially close to them yet. Only a matter of time I suppose before one of them says in the street in front of DH or DC "saw you out running again the other day." I fear DH might faint!! Grin

tropical1 · 23/06/2016 14:18

Anonymous, I think our plans must be a bit different, but I'm sure they all get to the same end point!
I go down a path along a main river, so no car's and no drivers to see me!
Lots of baby swans, ducklings, geese etc, which is lovely and also cows that are loose with calves so we're a bit wary of 😃

anonymousbird · 23/06/2016 14:33

Oh I had cows too today, they'd been moved into a different field I run along a bit of the side of! they were all lying down in the long grass, so just ears and tops of heads popping up - didn't spot calves but they would be buried in the long grass!

I won't do the main road bit again, didn't really like it, it was only because I was dropping something into a friend and the loop back to start the run was on the side of the road.... I do see walkers and a few drivers, but not many.

TwuntingCat · 23/06/2016 15:05

I see back alleys, a wetherspoons, a supermarket, go over 2 bridges to get over the railway, a gym and a bowling green...v interesting not.

Alohamora · 23/06/2016 15:33

I usually run on the paths along the shore or along the esplanade (get me Grin).

My wolfs remain pain free and I am getting there. My running buddy says my breathing has definitely improved - no more blowing like an old cart horse BlushGrin.

w4d1 today which on my app included two 4 minute runs. The second 4 mins I was desperate to hear "slow down and walk"!

The next day moves to 5 minute run (x2) it sounds pretty hard but I guess we have to trust in the program and trust we will be able to do it!

SeafrontDreams · 23/06/2016 21:03

Hi all, can I join in? I've just started c25k again, 4 months after having DD. I completed the programme a couple of years ago but have put on three stone since then, plus not doing any exercise at all while pregnant.
Week 1 run 3 done today, finding it tough to finish the last two runs so I don't know if I should go up to week 2 yet?

JellyBellyKelly · 23/06/2016 21:44

finding it tough to finish the last two runs so I don't know if I should go up to week 2 yet?

If I were you I'd try week 2 day 1 and see how you get on. Absolutely no harm repeating week 1 if you can't do week 2, but my experience of the early days was that I found them very hard and thought I could never run more... But then managed to.

QuickBringWine · 24/06/2016 20:28

Week 4 day 3 done here!! Nice evening run by the sea today! Just realised I'm now halfway through as my program seems to have 8 weeks (I could have sworn it was 9!) It still seems impossible to believe that in a month I could be running 5k without stopping (or dying... Quite a serious concern when I started!!) Posting here really helps to motivate me and keeps me accountable for actually going out and doing it!
And it actually works!! If you're dithering about it just go, the hardest part is getting up and doing that first run!! I downloaded the app 3 times meaning to start before I did it!!

MrsPatrickDempsey · 24/06/2016 22:49

Week 5 run 2 tonight. Was meant to do two 8 min runs with a 5 min walk in between but don't know what Inwas thinking and ran for 16mins straight! It just felt ok so I carried on. Weight loss not doing much though ...

Thedeepbluesea · 25/06/2016 17:28

W6r2 completed. I even braved a hill, go me! I have to say i havent noticed any weight loss either but think i am looking more toned. I am certainly starting to enjoy it. I can see how it can be addictive.

From now on inly 25 min runs or more. Lets hope the wolfs hold out. Smile

AStreetcarNamedBob · 26/06/2016 07:34

Lying in bed trying to motivate myself to go and do w4d3. But I'm so comfy...!!

QuickBringWine · 26/06/2016 08:18

Hahaha! Me too AStreetcarNamedBob!! Grin
I've eaten my banana now though so there's no backing out of the run!! W5d1 here!

SkyRabbit · 26/06/2016 12:56

Hi, can I join in please? I've just done week 1 r3, and have amazed myself by not actually dying Grin
I've done no exercise at all for about 15 years until 2 months ago when I joined a gym. I find it incredibly difficult to run on a treadmill (I'm clumsy and fall off a lot Blush) so I'm trying c25k!
My outer thighs are proper knacking though - is that normal? Dr Google seems to suggest it's an IT band problem ??
I also definitely need a sports bra!

MrsPatrickDempsey · 26/06/2016 14:12

Rabbit - I have just completed week 5 and can't quite believe I have run for 20 mins! I have ached in places I didn't know I had but after a couple of days they have all settled. Struggling with my left hip over the last week. Sleeping with ice packs on it really helps.i got a new bra too. Trying them on in the shop was harder than the running! Really exhausting; they are like parachuttes!
