Anyone care to join me in a 30 day walking challenge?

Got an email from My Fitness Plan this morning with a 30 Day Walking Challenge and I'm going to give it a go starting tomorrow. I'm rubbish at links on this iPad but if you google 30 day walking challenge quite a few come up - I'm doing the MFP one.

There are three different levels - I'm starting at the beginning as just getting over problems with my Achilles tendon.

Been feeling very unmotivated and down lately and hoping this will be do-able and get me back into exercise.

Would love some company!

I've redeemed myself from my lazy day by going for a lovely riverside walk with DH. 24,232 steps so far today, keeps my weekend average up nicelyGrin.

BalloonSlayer · 26/04/2015 19:23

Well done everyone!

I am pleased to report that at the end of my second week my weekly total is over 70,000 steps so my daily average is more than 10,000! (Although I have had 2 days of only about 6000 and something.)

I have a confession to make. I have created a spreadsheet. Blush There, I've said it.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/04/2015 20:58

Mine is just over 80,000, i think that's a record for me, I'm usually around the 60,000 mark. I had one bad dsy (yesterday), that's normal, but I had a 16k day and a 13k day in the week which I don't normally, the thread is definitely spurring me on Grin.

BalloonSlayer · 26/04/2015 21:42

Tis great Coco if I say so myself - it tells me how many more steps short of my 70,000 goal and the numbers change colour when I have reached it and everything. . . Smile

BaloonSlayer Grin love the spreadsheet!

Lazy day here. Didn't go into town. Didn't walk dogs.

Did do a pile of ironing.

Will walk tomorrow. You are all putting me to shame.

Can I join? I've just done 1.75 miles. I don't have a pedometer, so am aiming to go for a walk first thing every morning. I use runkeeper.

RattieofCatan · 27/04/2015 07:18

I'm sidling back in, I have been wearing my fitbit but I've been working full time and doing lots of wedding stuf the past couple of weeks and just don't do well at checking into things anyway, let alone when I'm busy Blush

I managed 13290 steps on Saturday. I spent half of the day in the woods with my charges nd then went for a short walk with DP through the woods to check out the bluebells too, so I'm chuffed with that!

Only 3000 yesterday though, I went to a rat show, pissed off a Mummy Rat with 3wo babies and she bit me, so after NHS Direct told me to go to A&E to get a tetanus I spent the afternoon there before being told that I actually didn't need a tetanus but could have one if I wanted one as I'm coming up to renewal time anyway Hmm So I had one but what a bloody waste of A&E time. The nurses were lovely though! But that's my excuse for poor results Wink

I have had a few days where I've forgotten to wear my fitbit, and a few days where I've been quite inactive, but on my active days I'm clearing over 8000 steps easily :)

You lot are doing really well, I need to up my game. 27k steps is mad Shock

Cocolepew · 27/04/2015 16:33

2110 so far today. Im surprised, I sit on my bum a lot at work. Dont think Ill get a big walk with the dog, weather is a bit unreliable and my foot is still a bit dodgy

LinzerTorte · 27/04/2015 20:04

Fell off the thread as DD1 was diagnosed with diabetes a couple of weeks ago and has been in hospital ever since, so most of my time has been taken up with driving to and from the hospital or being with her in the hospital, receiving training, etc. The longish walk from the car park to her ward and back at least once a day has helped keep my step count above 4000 most days, though, and she's also been allowed out to go for a walk around the town for an hour or two, so I've managed more steps on those days than I would normally. Am hoping to restart properly again soon.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/04/2015 22:33

Welcome back Linzer, I was wondering how you were all doing. Glad DD is being allowed out and about. Have they said when she might be allowed home?

TheAmyrlin - welcome, I think people are measuring in all sorts of ways, doesn't have to be a pedometer.

Rattle - ouch, hope your bite isn't too painful.

Haven't quite made my target today, 9200 done, 2xschool run and walk to ballet class and back. The class itself doesn't actually register many steps, most of the time we are working at the barre and only lifting one leg at a time, it's only at the end when we have a bop around in the middle that it picks up again. I did a bit of a detour on the way home too, but still not enough.

InMySpareTime · 28/04/2015 07:21

13610 steps yesterday, mostly running errands.

MsDragons · 28/04/2015 07:51

I've not been doing much walking this past week because I've not been well, I had a migraine last Tuesday and have had a headache ever since Sad I'm also mad busy at work writing reports so every spare second I'm in front of my computer rather than being active. A couple of days I did less than 1000 steps Blush

TheAmyrlin · 28/04/2015 08:09

1.67 miles this morning. Think I'm going to have to get up earlier so I can do a longer walk.
Hope your DD is OK linzer

LinzerTorte · 28/04/2015 19:16

DD is doing well, thanks, Amyrlin and WhoKnows, and came out of hospital this afternoon. It's good to have her back home and I certainly won't miss the hospital run (DH is looking forward to sleeping at home too and not being woken by the nurses coming in every few hours!).

I've managed just over 6,000 steps today, which was mainly just walking between the car park and ward, and was helped by the fact that I realised just as we got to the car - after DD1 had been discharged - that I'd forgotten my mobile in her room... I don't expect I'll manage much walking for the rest of the week while she's still at home, although I'm hoping to encourage her to come out for a walk or two in the mornings if the weather improves - it's pouring with rain here at the moment.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/04/2015 20:33
  1. Legs are tired. 2xschool run both incorporating visits to allotment (site is next to school). Quick dash round shops. Afternoon helping at school, involving a fair amount of walking. Sports centre and back snd allotment and back again. Might not be doing so much from tomorrow if the weather forecast is correct.

Glad to hear DD is home Linzer, what an upheaval for you all.

InMySpareTime · 28/04/2015 21:57

12105 today, school run and meetings across town mostly.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/04/2015 22:51

Just over 10,000 yesterday, 13,700 today (2x school run, 2 x allotment visit, bringing DS and friends home from Scouts). A lovely evening for walking.

LinzerTorte · 01/05/2015 05:14

Very impressed with you walking over 17,000, WhoKnows - you're now at the top of my fitbit league table! I'm no. 6, but haven't updated since yesterday morning so am hoping I may move up a place or two when I do so.

I managed 10,000 steps yesterday thanks to walking to DD1's school and back to pick up some school stuff. Noticed just before I went to bed that I was on something like 9,900 so did a few extra steps round the bedroom to get up to five figures!

Cocolepew · 01/05/2015 07:50

Glad your DD is home Linzer.
I wasnt feeling too good the other day so didn't go for a walk and my steps were only 915! Thats woeful, but it shows how little I walk if I don't make an effort and go for a walk. That day I had been to Tesco for maybe 10 minutes, 3 hours in work and a couple of hours housework.

I seem to be averaging between 5000-7000 everyday. To be honest I dont think I can do too much more than that. My feet are killing me and I'm scared to push myself in case I over do it and put myself into a flare.

Im still trying to go for a walk every day, so I'll aim at 7000 every day for now Smile

InMySpareTime · 02/05/2015 06:54

Anything happening re. a May walking challenge?

LinzerTorte · 02/05/2015 13:52

I would definitely be up for starting again in May. I've only done 2500 steps so far today and as it's pouring with rain, probably won't make it out for a walk this afternoon. Have decided to start again in earnest on Monday, when DD1 will be back at school.

Eek, I am 7th out of 8 on my fitbit leaderboard. And the person in 8th place is doing a 34 mile walk this weekend, so I shall be right at the bottom very soon if I don't make more of an effort.

CiderwithBuda · 03/05/2015 17:17

Hi everyone. Greetings from Sydney! Haven't forgotten you or the thread. Was busy few days before I left and busy since I got here. Long boozy lunch combined with jet lag meant I fell asleep far too early tonight and am now wide awake.

Have done much walking yet but I will. Did over 10,00 on Thursday I know.

I def on to carry this on either on this thread or a May one.
