Anyone care to join me in a 30 day walking challenge?

Got an email from My Fitness Plan this morning with a 30 Day Walking Challenge and I'm going to give it a go starting tomorrow. I'm rubbish at links on this iPad but if you google 30 day walking challenge quite a few come up - I'm doing the MFP one.

There are three different levels - I'm starting at the beginning as just getting over problems with my Achilles tendon.

Been feeling very unmotivated and down lately and hoping this will be do-able and get me back into exercise.

Would love some company!

10500 yesterday, mainly walking round the shops, but also a mile round trip to take DD to her swimming lesson.

10700 today, 2xschool run, 2 x walk to DD's friend's house to drop her off / pick her up plus another 1 mile round power-walk to the sports centre for my ballet class Grin. Legs are going to be stiff tomorrow having just had three weeks off ballet.

CiderwithBuda · 20/04/2015 22:16

Ballet? I'd love to try that. Supposed to be really good for you. I'm not admitting that to MIL or she would have me in a tutu in a second! She teaches ballet!

No walk here. Leg felt great today for first time for weeks so I decided to rest it. Went to chiropractor - he reckons it's getting better. He massaged it and stuck needles in. (He does acupuncture- not just random needles!). Feels better. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

My shoe delivery arrives tomorrow. And I ordered new Birkenstocks. And two pairs of sandals from M&S. Blush. 6 pairs of shoes. Maybe I should change my name to Imelda Marcos.

Evening Imelda! I ordered some Birkenstocks at the weekend too, I've got an old pair that have done brilliant service, but it is time for some new ones. Glad your leg is feeling better, I used to see a chiropractor for my back pain, he used to acupuncture, but none of it really helped, getting orthotics and switching to Birkie type sandals was what really sorted it out, and now doing Pilates helps too (I go to a class for that too).

16,000 steps today! All in the trusty old Birkies, it feels so good to have my toes in fresh air after months of boots. 2x school run, walked to town and back, sports centre and back again for DD's ballet class this time and then round to a friend's house earlier this evening.

I only started the ballet class at Christmas, I have prolapses and have to take care how I exercise, this is ideal because it's low impact and good for posture/core strength, I'm enjoying it too, we have a good laugh at ourselves as we prance around in our ballet shoes (no tutus though!).

CiderwithBuda · 21/04/2015 23:11

Blush I also bought clogs a couple of weeks ago on the back of a thread on here. I'm such a sheep!

Shoes arrived today - sent two pairs back! They sent the wrong flip flops - wanted plain black but got diamante ones which are not me! The sandal ones were not what I thought I had ordered so they went back too. I did try them all on and they felt really comfy. Keeping the trainers. They are sending me the correct flip flops and sandals. I could imagine walking miles in the flip flops. Really comfy. And supportive.

No walking for me today. Mainly because I completely forgot!

Will walk tomorrow. Definitely!

I might look for a ballet class here. I tried pilates in a class at the gym but wasn't impressed with the instructor. The dud some one on one but it was expensive. Have discovered a studio though so may try that. Also contemplating yoga.

I'm slightly hypermoblle and very stiff and unfit. Need gentle exercise.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 21/04/2015 23:20

My pilates class is a Body Control one, the teacher is a former ballet dancer and very highly trained. There's usually only 4 or so of us so lots of individual attention.

Cocolepew · 22/04/2015 13:07

My pedometer has finally came!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/04/2015 23:32

Nearly 14,000 today, I am definitely doing a few more walks than I would normally. 2x school run, 1x sports centre run, 1x allotment visit and 1x round to a friend's house this evening (where we consumed our own bodyweight of Indian takeaway Blush)

CiderwithBuda · 22/04/2015 23:39

Wow WhoKnows. Well done!

I did my walk this evening and with that and walking around town this morning I was at 9,889 as I was getting ready to go up to bed so walked around downstairs till I clicked over the 10,000! I thinks it's only my second day of going over the 10,000.

Hoping to get two walks in tomorrow and am going into town again.

Cocolepew - how far have you gone?! Come back! Grin

Where is everyone else??

Cocolepew · 23/04/2015 11:02

I have managed to up my walk wuth the dig. It now inckudes a realky steep hill. Im fine walking down it… Grin walking up I can really feel it in my bum and thighs.
I measured it this morning and did 6763 steps and its just over 3 miles.
I'll kep my pedometer on and see how I do.
Well done whoknows, thats very impressive!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 23/04/2015 23:20

Thanks Coco, glad you've got going with the pedometer.

Cider - I've had a few evenings pacing the floor just before midnight to hit the 10,000, I'vd even walked up and down the street.

Just over 10,000 today, 2x school run, 1x scouts run, and a walk round the shops in my lunch hour.

CiderwithBuda · 23/04/2015 23:37

No actual walk for me today but reached 7,640 steps.

Which isn't bad but I'm supposed to be doing a walk every day!

Was thinking I would do two walks today but didn't even manage one.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

OP posts:
Cocolepew · 24/04/2015 07:36

I did over 8000 steps in all yesterday, considering 6000 of them were from my walk it goes to show that I dont move about that much. I had gone shopping in the aftrnoon as well!

CiderwithBuda · 24/04/2015 22:29

11,079 steps for me today.

Went out with the girl who is training/walking our dogs (long story!).

Was planning another dog walk this evening but didn't manage it.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/04/2015 22:34

Nearly the same as me Cider - 11,066.

2x school run (watch my total plummet over the weekend, especially if we get the promised rain), 2 x allotment and back, 1 x trundle round Sainsburys, 1 x trail round a funfair with the DCs this evening (which was more standing around watching them go on rides than actual walking).

InMySpareTime · 24/04/2015 22:46

Can I join in? Late to the party, I know, but I only just found the thread and I have a Fitbit Flex (and I want to boast about my steps a bitGrin).
I get over 10k steps pretty much every day, as I don't drive.
Today I've walked13,986 steps.
Walked a lot on holiday last week, which has really boosted my step average. The most walky holiday day was 27k steps.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/04/2015 23:00

Hello Inmysparetime, yes, do join us. The most I've managed in a single day so far (been using mine since about November) was 22,000, but I rarely get above about 15,000, and have occasional totally sedentary days (usually at the weekend) which really lower my average.

Cocolepew · 25/04/2015 00:07

Stupid pedometer broke Angry
It put my total after my walk at three thousand odd, whereas it was over 6000 yesterday.
I sudenly didnt grow longer legs…

I would say I did between 7 and 8 thousand today.

CiderwithBuda · 25/04/2015 13:28

Wow at 27,000 steps!

My legs are scared just thinking of that!

Coco - can't believe your pedometer broke already. That's terrible.

InMySpareTime · 25/04/2015 13:32

We walked from our hotel into Florence along the river (9km) then got the train back and went to the park. I had to buy DD new pumps in Florence as she'd gone out in sandals and her feet were sore.
I don't habitually walk that far!

Cocolepew · 25/04/2015 16:17

27000!
Pedometer seems better today, went for walk with my mum and did 4700.
Im not doing anymore today gecause Ive gurt my foot, so Im going to rest it tonight.
How's your leg Cider?

InMySpareTime · 26/04/2015 07:06

Lazy day yesterday, only 2531 steps all day (which were mostly round Aldi).
Worth it though, I feel much more awake now, ready for all the week has in store.

CiderwithBuda · 26/04/2015 11:08

Coco - it's much better thanks. I'm stretching it every morning in various ways. Wearing sensible shoes. Am back at the chiropractor tomorrow for more massage and acupuncture. Massaging in ibuprofen gel when I remember and using an ice pack also when I remember.

My chiropracter has the same issues with his feet so recommended what works for him.

Did almost 8,000 steps yesterday which included a walk with the dogs.

Not sure about today. Weather not very conducive to making me want to go out! I have some shoes to take back to M&S so might walk into town to do that and then get DH to collect me. That would be about a 35 min walk not counting the walking around in town.

OP posts:
CiderwithBuda · 26/04/2015 11:09

Sorry - posted too soon!

What did you do to your foot Coco? Resting is good if you have hurt it. Massage in some ibuprofen gel if you have some and ice it.
