Bloody hell - that 7 min Davina exercise DVD

stevienickstophat · 15/02/2015 08:36

It works!

I've been at it a week. Before that, did fuck all exercise for YEARS. Ended up with a bad knee every time I tried running etc so gave up.

This was a last ditch attempt to stop my body basically falling off, and I was attracted by the fact it would all be done in seven minutes and at least I could tell myself I'd done something.

It actually frigging works.

(Promise I don't work for Davina. Booble plate, river of sweetcorn, cube of poo, pombears, elderly Korean lady.)

But if there is anyone who was like me, who hates exercise and just generally CBA with gyms etc, this is cracking.

I've been slyly following this thread as I bought the DVD at the weekend. I weighed myself on Sunday and I was 10 stone 13 (I'm 5' 4" fgs).
My weight has crept up about half a stone over the last couple of months due to not exercising after an injury. And the general stuffing my face with sweet things. To be honest I was overweight anyway but at the weekend I thought right, I HAVE to do something. I'm 40 years old and fat
I did 4 of her exercises on Monday and 4 last night.
Oh. My. God. Today I feel like I've been hit by a car.
But I have decided that Davina is BRILL. I am determined.

ByeByeButterfly · 25/02/2015 16:57

Just downloading it on my phone from iTunes - I really do need to lose weight/tone/get fitter!

stevienickstophat · 25/02/2015 17:31

Well done, BlardyFeck and all other newcomers!

Little Difference Today

I had to be filmed for work (argh) and I was pleasantly surprised at how much flatter my tummy looked on the video!

Good work stevie, that must be those special abs crunch thingies that Ed makes us do.
On that subject, I'm finding those quite tricky. I don't really know if I'm doing them right. Is there a cunning way to tell? (I've done a few the last couple of evenings and I'm not feeling any ache in my lower tummy, which is what I was hoping for)

stevienickstophat · 25/02/2015 18:02

I didn't feel it at first - it's only since I've noticed my tummy changing that I've been able to 'feel the burn'.

I don't know if I've got better at the exercises, or if I just didn't have any muscles there at all before Grin

OP posts:
blardyfeck · 25/02/2015 18:28

Hmm lack of muscles may well be my problem, to be fair. I shall carry on and report back :)
Great thread btw. I'm hoping all you other 7-minuters will spur me on!

SweepTheHalls · 25/02/2015 18:31

Too much pain today in my legs from yesterday's 3 to even consider doing any more today!

winsomewitch · 25/02/2015 18:43

sweep I was the same with my legs so i switched to the abs and the stretch sessions for 2 days.

Pick another bit of your body to work on whilst your legs recover!

Mine are much better today and i'm back in the swing of it.

stevienickstophat · 25/02/2015 18:43

I think I'm having a rest today. I'm feeling guilty - but fighting it Grin

The abs thing is interesting because it's a tiny motion but a very precise one. I asked Ed about it (ooh get me) and he said that if it isn't hard/doesn't hurt then you aren't doing it right. And he's right. He says he can really feel it every time he does it and he is pretty sculpted. I thought the abs section ridiculously easy at first. That's because I wasn't actually doing it properly. Since I've cracked it, I have noticed such massive improvements in my abdominals.

The only way to do them is to really, really, really focus on what you're doing. Do them slowly and with full concentration. So when you do the tilt, concentrate on forcing your back down and into the floor as you tilt your pelvis up and in. Imagine not being able to slide a piece of paper between your back and the floor. Then suck in your abs and try and imagine your belly button and the bottom of your ribs are being pulled together by force. Then hold it, do NOT release the position. When you do the reverse bit, hold your legs completely still. Do not use them to pull, just pull your lower abdominals in and let them tug your pelvis up into a curl. Your legs will move only a little bit. Use your pelvic floor, your core and everything you have to tightly shift your lower pelvis a couple of inches. Pause at the top of the movement and don't release it back down by relaxing the muscles, control it back down slowly using the muscles all the time. When you do the crunch, focus hard on keeping the tilt and the suck in of your abdominals at full contraction. It should be a real concerted effort. And if it is too easy, straighten your legs a bit to add resistance and move your knees further away from your hips.

stevie, rest is good. Your body will thank you for it. Smile

Auburnsparkle · 25/02/2015 19:55

I did fat burner and the shoulder/arm one - it was tough but bit easier than last few days. I can feel it in my abs already.

stevienickstophat · 25/02/2015 19:57

Will my body thank me for the massive bar of Green and Black's I've just inhaled?

Cocoa's a fruit innit?

stevienickstophat · 25/02/2015 20:15

I like your thinking Wink

Auburnsparkle · 25/02/2015 20:16

And it has Green in the title - which is the colour of some veg. So it must be healthy.

stevienickstophat · 25/02/2015 20:24

Full of chlorophyll, Auburn Grin

OP posts:
Auburnsparkle · 25/02/2015 20:41

Exactly. And with all this exercise you need plenty of that.

blardyfeck · 25/02/2015 20:56

Wow showy, thank you so much, that has, I think, explained it. I'm going to try it now. I actually need to copy and paste your explanation and take it with me Blush

Stillstarving · 25/02/2015 23:21

This is such a positive good thread. I've bought the DVD on the back of it. I've only done the stretch part so far because I thought maybe I need to watch more bits of the thing first but I think tomorrow I'll give the abs a blast

Morning all! And welcome to newcomers! It's great that we're growing Smile

So, I had a rest yesterday, and I'm stiff this morning Confused

Why's that, then?

OP posts:
gobbin · 26/02/2015 07:14

I did three days and the rest of the week off...gobbin, needing to get her arse back into gear.

Sinister it's fab. I've biught two other exercise DVDs over the years and they're still in their packets. This one is brill. I even got my son to join me on day 3 so I need to get back to it to keep him motivated too!

Moodykat · 26/02/2015 07:32

Having a rest day today. Am aching badly! Might commandeer the conference room at work and do some yoga in my lunch break to ease the pain!

Auburnsparkle · 26/02/2015 09:01

I am aching so much today. Am amazed that only a few minutes has had such an effect. Yesterday my lovely daughter told me my tummy was looking flatter :)

stevienickstophat · 26/02/2015 09:37

A Little Difference, Auburn!
