Just putting a marker down for a new thread for the Shreddees! All welcome, and it's not limited to the Shred - all those working through any of JM's various forms of torture are very welcome.

OP posts:

Morning all! Well done AtAt, I've never done BFBM, I gather it's sort of the cardio complement to NMTZ for strength, and that with both of them you can decide whether you want to do the whole thing or pick and choose workouts. So sounds like what you're doing makes sense for getting into it and esp if you're not feeling totally 100%.

I'm back to normal routine after the halfterm, so Ri30 L3 done.

AtAt · 24/02/2015 08:20

The second half of that work out is really hard! I had to modify most of the exercises, and had a few more breaks than I would have liked, but definitely worked up a sweat. I'm going to have a rest day tomorrow, then on Thursday, I'm going to do the whole work out from start to finish.

drspouse · 24/02/2015 10:05

No Shred over the weekend but was going to do it yesterday while DH was out at an evening meeting, except he felt ill and skipped the meeting so I went to my normal Pilates class. Really noticed an improvement in my abs!

ErrolTheDragon · 24/02/2015 11:03

I'd like to try pilates - not sure it would be wise to try to do it just from dvds though. Not sure how to find a class though and get over my dislike of gym classes.

Anyway, Ri30 L3 D2. Can any normal human being actually do the unmodified 'duck walk'? But today for the first time I did most of the 'rock and rolls' with no hands! Grin

MagpieCursedTea · 25/02/2015 16:46

L2D6 complete! Feeling ill today but I'm so worried that if I don't keep doing it I won't finish and I'm determined as I always give up on exercise projects before I complete them.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/02/2015 18:12

You are supposed to have rest days magpie. Did you do it today anyway?

I did my Ri30 L3D3. That last strength set feels like it's giving my triceps a good workout which they badly need. I substituted 'butterfly situps' (soles of feet together) for the pike situp at the end, as that's one of the ones which I think is a no-no.

MsRaspberryJam · 25/02/2015 20:20

I'm on day two level one of Ri30. Alarm set for seven am for day three tomorrow.

Legs are killing me!

MagpieCursedTea · 25/02/2015 20:33

I just had my two rest days Errol which is why I didn't want to miss today. Managed it so will hopefully keep the momentum going!

CheshirePanda · 26/02/2015 14:10

Hello raspberry
I'm going to be doing day 2 of L1 Ri30 today. Can we buddy up? I've just done 30 DS, which I really liked, but wasn't really thrilled with Ri30 yesterday...I'm not sure why that was but I will try with an open mind again tonight.

MagpieCursedTea · 26/02/2015 15:41

L2D7 complete! It's getting easier, I still find holding the plank positions tricky though.

MsRaspberryJam · 26/02/2015 20:55

Yes, panda! Let's do it. I got a terrible night's sleep, so didn't do it this morning. I'm doing day three tomorrow. Are you in?

Level two gets more fun. I think level one is too similar to the Shred.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/02/2015 22:24

Ri30L3D4 done. I think I prefer ripped to shred because the strength is 3x1min - more variety and better for static poses.

MsRaspberryJam · 27/02/2015 07:37

Ri30 day three level one done!

Jillian gets me every time with her talk at the end about showing up for your own life! Normally, I'd think it was a lot of sentimental rubbish, but it seems really profound first thing in the morning after too many push ups!

ErrolTheDragon · 27/02/2015 07:54

Wow, you really are 'first thing in the morning'. I'm working through my second cup of tea before I can contemplate getting started.

I don't find the cooldown stretches particularly beneficial nowadays (I just do some 'cobras' if my back feels like it needs it) so I turn off after the last abs and miss Jillian's little lectures. She's right, though, about 'showing up', and some of her other stuff. I think mothers (which most of us here are) are particularly susceptible to be so caught up with looking after other people that we are at risk of neglecting our own needs - everything works better if we can get that balance right.

ElphabaTheGreen · 27/02/2015 08:18

Still here. DS2 has given up on his one and only cot nap of the day (which I was braced for, TBH - can't believe he did it for as long as he did) so there goes my Shredding time during the day. He's also insistent upon co-sleeping from 8:30pm so no 'after the DCs are in bed' for me.

We are working with a sleep consultant so I am hopeful of retrieving some semblance of a life in the relatively near future. He's also going to be starting to do two half-days at nursery from next week so I'll be getting in at LEAST one DVD then and a fuckload of catch-up sleep

Off to baby-wearing exercise class today, just to reassure you I'm not parked on my arse eating donuts! Grin

MagpieCursedTea · 27/02/2015 13:03

L2D8 complete!

Luckily DS naps quite happily on the sofa next to me while I exercise at the moment. He was awake when DH was doing crunches yesterday and stood over him like a tiny personal trainer babbling encouragement and laughing at him

How old is your DS2 Elphaba? I've always fancied doing a baby wearing exercise class but I was too embarrassed about how unfit I am and I think DS might be a bit old for it now anyway. What are the classes like?

MrsStevenPatrickMorrissey · 27/02/2015 13:32

Hi all, hope you don't mind me joining in, I've just discovered JM 30 day shread, and am on day 3 of level one, and I love it. Ive been doing it when dd3 has her nap around lunch time, as getting out walking in the morning isn't working out, shes gone completely off her buggy and won't sleep, she's fine for about 15 minutes and then wants out! So this is ideal, as long as the naps keep up! I'm really impressed reading through the thread, you are all really dedicated to doing the various exercises, think that's what I need to keep the momentum going, as I do tend to love it for a week and then loose interest.

Can I just ask a question, I will try and keep up doing this every day, so is it ok to have a break inbetween days, I won't get a chance to do it tomorrow, but will hopefully get at it again on Sunday so do I start at day one again or can I count that as day 4??? Sorry for the long winded question!

Magpie that really made me laugh about your Ds being a mini personal trainer, if any of my dds see me on the floor at all doing any sort of exercise they're all doing trying to beat me at it!!

MagpieCursedTea · 27/02/2015 14:14

Welcome Mrs! This is my first time doing the shred too. I think you're meant to have a couple of rest days a week and then carry on counting, so say you've done Day 4, you rest for a day then do Day 5. At least I think that's how it works.
I find this thread so helpful. The other posters are very knowledgeable and encouraging Smile

MsRaspberryJam · 27/02/2015 14:34

It was early for me! I set the alarm for ten to seven and then boshed two Pro Plus caffeine tablets and a Berocca. All my willpower comes from the shelves in Boots!

I agree about it being especially challenging to get this stuff done when you're a mum. But it's so important to have some time to dedicate to yourself so that we have the energy for others later. Not always so easy to find the time though, hence the ridiculously early mornings!

ElphabaTheGreen · 27/02/2015 15:57

Magpie DS2 is six months old.

I really enjoy the babywearing exercise class, as he's such a Velcro-baby that I cannot get him off of me long enough to get anything, much less real exercise, done. He even has to nap on me (which isn't always bad, as long as I've got something nice to nibble on and my iPad Grin)

Quite a few women have come to my class with toddlers in a back-carry. I'd happily do it with DS1 (2.8yo) but he WILL NOT be worn, especially not for a 45 minute class like that.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/02/2015 16:08

Hello MrsS, however did you find us? Wink

You're supposed to have one or two rest days per week. So you just carry on counting - either 10 days per level or whatever feels right to you. You don't need to get everything perfect before you move on - not all the moves in L2 are harder than all of the ones in L1.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/02/2015 16:22

Anyway, I did Ri30L3D5 this morning. Then DH and I took the dog for a walk - about 5 miles very muddy so just finished bathing the dog (he's very good at picking his way round puddles and patches, but this walk he just had to plough through, poor sausage!

CheshirePanda · 27/02/2015 19:51

So nice to see lots of activity on the thread... ! Sorry I didn't reply yesterday Raspberry, yes, I am in! (Yesterday I was lazy and greedy and didn't do any 'ripping' )

I did D2 of W1 Ri30 today and I disliked it a little less than day 1. I think the exercises swap around too quickly, just as I've got something worked out, I have to stop.

Tomorrow I am planning on going Mountain biking so probably won't do anything more tomorrow, but Sunday will be day 3.

MrsStevenPatrickMorrissey · 27/02/2015 21:21

Thanks Magpie & Errol I just happened upon this thread errol while doing a lunge Grin....thanks for the advice, I did day 3 today and I found it fine, I did my last night at Bootcamp last night so I need to be doing something! You are all so active, I'm very impressed Elphaba I'm in awe, your Ds2 is only 6 months, think i was still in the 'I've just had a baby' phase at that point and eating too much cakeGrin

Well I'm out most of the day tomorrow with the kids so exercise will be limited to chasing said dc around other people's houses, so the plan is to get up at around 6 and try and do a little bit of running....that the plan now 6am could be different!!

MsRaspberryJam · 27/02/2015 23:21

Well done, Panda! Which ones are you finding the hardest to coordinate? I feel like such a tit doing the chair flys.

You'll get used to them, I'm sure. Have you just done the Shred and then straight on to Ripped?

I'm doing day four tomorrow (at a more civilised hour, I hope!) then resting on Sunday.
