Suzanne not sure about your increase in mileage = weight loss theory, most people I know who have done marathons have put on weight during their training, not the opposite! I'm not losing anything (although I'm sure I've got stronger, so perhaps more muscle weight) not that I need to but I'd really like to be a couple of kgs lighter for the race. To compensate for the weight of the drink and food I'll have to carry around with me.

Mitchy1nge · 19/01/2015 10:58

my recent weight loss follows a reduction in mileage and overall activity in general and quite a substantial increase in food, am aiming at (but not quite there yet) the 1000 cals of carbs thing (plus 1500 of everything else) - perhaps another reason for being a bit sick after a certain point on runs lately, am too full of food

sometimes I think our bodies just haven't read the same literature as our brains!

Some Myths vs Truths about strength training for runners
Mitchy I'm surprised you've lost weight since increasing carbs. I know when I eat more carbs I put on a lot of water weight (there must be some scientific explanation but I can't remember what!). The change in diet could well be due to your new nutrition.

twobambinos · 19/01/2015 11:33

Can I join ye? Training for a half the middle of march. And a 10 mile race the middle of Feb. Did them last year too and then got lazy and never did a run longer than 10km until the start if Jan again. This year I will try pencil in a few linger runs throughout the year to keep the fitness up.
Did 9 miles yesterday. Funny about the bra. I wouldn't be able for it mine are too big ??.

twobambinos · 19/01/2015 11:35

Adding my 9 brings it to 1629.30

feetheart · 19/01/2015 12:59

10 to add from me yesterday. First time I have run a 10 mile race so a PB (and a 10k one as part of it :o) Cold to start with but a bright sunny day and I was almost too hot at one point.
Slightly concerned at how recognisable I seem to be from behind as a variety of people said "Hello feet" as they ran up to us, chatted for a bit and then ran past (including Halle :)). This included someone I have only met once, briefly Hmm

1639.30

AggressiveBunting · 19/01/2015 13:11

Welcome twobambinos and well done feet.

I am trying to decide if I CBA to get up and do treadmill tomorrow. I normally hit the trails but don't really have time.... actually, no really about it- I don't have time :-)

TessTackle · 19/01/2015 13:18

An icy, and v cold 3 from me.
I've gone back to week 5 day2 of c25k.
I've been so crap at getting out since October that I feel the need to ease myself back into it.

No one told me how much harder on the muscles it is running when it's less than 3 degrees Shock

cinnamongreyhound · 19/01/2015 13:27

Welcome twobambinos!

I only ran in a normal bra before being pregnant and then it was just too painful so bought a sports bra, it's more comfortable as there's not pain but not sure I feel any different than my pre-pregnancy boobs. I couldn't run without one at all though, always hold on to them when I run upstairs with no bra on.

cinnamongreyhound · 19/01/2015 13:36

Well done Feetheart!

Suzannewithaplan · 19/01/2015 14:52

9.1 from me 1615.4
cold, but sunny and no wind or rain :o

Suzannewithaplan · 19/01/2015 15:21

have any of the runners on the thread ever tested themselves for maximum heart rate?
I'd assumed that mine was where it ought to be for my age, around 165-170 but since I've been able to run a teeny bit faster I've seen it up to 188

everything I've read says that max hr declines with age at the rate of around 1bpm per year, irrespective of fitness so I'm perplexed that mine isnt where it ought to beConfused

Anglaise1 · 19/01/2015 16:21

Suzanne I've never had heart rate measured properly, but I have an appointment with a cardiologist on Friday as a preliminary for an "test d'effort" (not sure if it is the same in English) to measure max heart rate etc. Here in France it is recommended for women of around 50 who practice endurance sports and as a pre marathon precaution. I know my resting heart rate is around 46 but it will be interesting to have the results of the effort test.

stilllearnin · 19/01/2015 17:09

I am just marking my place in the hope that my weird knee pain/ thigh cramp combo torture is temporary.

TheSkinnyProject · 19/01/2015 17:18

A short run, 2.85 from me.

Out in the dark at 6am running along heavily frosted pavements. Im happy I made it out as my bed was just so lovely. Also I was quite fast today cos I wanted to get home and into a warm shower!

1618.25

TheSkinnyProject · 19/01/2015 17:20

I really truly understand the phrase "freezing your arse off" after this morning Grin

IKYTWTLYA · 19/01/2015 17:55

Hello,

No running from me today. Amazed and in awe at those who can get up and run super-early!

I saw earlier and thought of you all.

He talks about all kinds of fascinating things and ends up on barefoot running. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this, and the rest of his talk.

Suzannewithaplan · 19/01/2015 17:59

?
Anglaise that sounds very interesting, please let us know how you get on with the test, I'd love to get proper testing done in a lab and all that kind of thing.
Suspect it would be expensive though! ?

HesterShaw · 19/01/2015 18:12

No running this morning. I went out on a boat instead! And then had a simply colossal lunch - I waddled away from the table.

Well done to anyone who went today - even down here it was icy cold.

5madthings · 19/01/2015 18:26

Re bras I wear a shock absorber ultimate run bra, I am a 30gg so need a bra!

No idea on heart rate I bought a garmin forerunner 15 today, my bday present to myself :) I didn't get the heart rate monitor strap, it looks like it wold be annoying to wear. But dp thinks we should get the heart moniter so maybe I will in future.

Hope everyone with injuries feels better soon, am amazed at the mike's sone of you are doing!

Four miles from me today, I ran on my birthday, that makes me a proper runner yes?!

5madthings · 19/01/2015 18:27

1622.25

twobambinos · 19/01/2015 18:33

Feetheart well done on the new pbs do share with us. Have a 10 mile coming up its my second one and the same one l did last year so I'm hoping for a new pb this year.

Happy birthday 5mad things.

Anyone have any snack ideas I'm so bored and stuck in a rut Not plain fruit or plain nuts. Had toast with ricotta and cinnamon today.

Have a huge blister on my foot from yesterdays run and have ordered new runners that will be here tomorrow so I cant wait to try them out.

No run for me today if I make 3 runs a week in super happy. Its hard to fit in with dh working hectic hours and need someone to mind the dds. I do two classes a week that Im counting as cross training Smile

HalleLouja · 19/01/2015 18:47

Feet I think I said "I am following that Arrow". My bad attempt of being witty when I was running too fast. All the best people got PBs for a 10k in that race it seems Grin.

Am all sore today after my run but not too badly and it all seems exercise sore rather injured sore.

Sirzy · 19/01/2015 19:28

I normally use shock absorber bra but I was pleasantly suprised by the m and s sports bras

EdithDickie · 19/01/2015 19:38

Happy birthday 5madthings!

I have 8.77 miles to add.

6.2 from my off road 10k yesterday and the remainder a nice loosening up lunchtime run with workmate today.

The off road thing was INSANE! Knee deep mud, steep slopes and wading through streams. Slopes so steep and slick I went up them on all fours. And So Much Mud! Grin Grin

It was amazing!
