Lovely, slightly muddy 10k this afternoon. Stopped at lidl once I'd finished and the 10 min walk home from there was exceptionally cold though!

Hester, the good thing about buying fancy trainers is that it gives you a really good reason to keep running! I find any type of new kit very motivating when I need a kick up the backside to get out.

I've always found that karrimor capris fall down, although I've got a couple of tops from there I like. Love my nike and ronhill tights (both bought in the sale, of course!)

standingonlego · 18/01/2015 18:48

5k trail race done this morning, 3rd year I have done it and pleased to get a PB for the course even with the slippy muddy hill. 27.53 versus 28.45 last year :)

1582.6

standingonlego · 18/01/2015 18:50

Talking kit - I have found Ron hill full length tights fit me best (short person) but have some new balance capris that have been going for years!

cinnamongreyhound · 18/01/2015 19:00

Guessed it was trainers HesterShaw but not sure if it was a special kind!

I'm same OhOneOhTwoOhThree, I starter c25k 3 years ago and although I'm younger than you I had only lost 1 of the 5 1/2st I eventually lost by then. I love running as everyone really can do it and the faster runners generally have nothing but respect for the slower/larger/older/less experienced runners. Never thought I'd be dreading an enforced break from running.

emummy · 18/01/2015 19:00

That's a great time standingonlego, well done!
A lot of my kit is Ronhill, I love their tops, tights, capris and socks. Also I have a Helly hansen t shirt which is the most comfortable thing ever!

cinnamongreyhound · 18/01/2015 19:03

Well done standingonlego!! Missed the whole third page!

I love karrimor leggings, although I got some of the more expensive ones and found they come up smaller and are hard to pull up so I end up wearing the cheaper ones!

HalleLouja · 18/01/2015 19:11

10 miles at the same race Feet was at. Makes 1592.6.

Such a better race than my one three weeks ago. Got a PB (compared to that) of nearly 6 minutes. Plus Mr Garmin gave me a PB on 10k by 90 seconds compared to my 10k race in October.

My mojo is back Grin

Interesting article for anyone concerned with how many miles they should be clocking up to be for successful for races: 5k - Marathon
Feeling better about now as a 'mortal' and not an elite I don't have the time or inclination to run more than 50 miles a week.

IKYTWTLYA · 18/01/2015 20:10

1595.2 + my 2.1 = 1597.3

I've finished week 3 of the C25K - we stupidly went up the steepest hill around. I've got to run for a whole 5 minutes next time. I might die!

Mitchy1nge · 18/01/2015 21:00

ahhh that is awesome anglaise 30 miles a week is very comfortable, very manageable and I think I can cope with a few slightly heavier weeks before the taper before the marathon

this is a thing I worry about quite a lot, I suppose have absorbed too much high mileage chat in my reading of various training schedules, but if I get at least those long runs in and cut back during the week if runner's world says 30-50 is fine for mortals (and let's face it, am probably sub-mortal) then I can RELAX

I LOVED today's run, it restored me and have been buzzing gently all day and I hope to do as many of my long ones in a similar way - super slowly and then flat out for the final mile

Neeko · 18/01/2015 21:15

Signed up for my first 10k today. It's not until August but I'm excited. Smile

actiongirl1978 · 18/01/2015 21:16

Good link anglaise, that's just made me think maybe signing up for a marathon isn't such a good idea, my weekly totals are shocking at the moment. Not sure where I would fit more running in between strength training, pilates and intervals, I certainly couldn't get up to 30!

Mitchy glad you had a good run today, it's so amazing when it feels right isn't it.

Just out of interest when you all do long runs are you super achy for the rest of the day? Even with stretches and foam rolling I have been groaning every time I get out of a chair. Does that happen to all of you too?

Coupedefoudre welcome!mi also love h and m running stuff, I got an exceptionally lovely running vest from there last week before they sold out - showed it to my husband who told me that I looked like mr motivator in it Hmm

Tiredemma sometimes that's just the way they go, next time will feel better.

actiongirl1978 · 18/01/2015 21:19

Ohoneohtwoohthree I am doing something similar in the summer, a relay race from midday sat to midday Sunday, in a team of five running 10k. So in theory I could do 40km in 24 hrs. I was drunk when I signed up!

Mitchy1nge · 18/01/2015 21:23

I used to find long runs absolutely debilitating - I haven't really gone long long yet, longest all year is 11 and I don't think I went beyond the half distance once last year

the distances I've been doing recently, no, I can have a drink and a stretch and just get on with my day - ride, muck out, walk the dogs, trot horses up and down. I could run if I had to and that's my goal with the long runs, to feel that I've done it but have the reserves to run a few more miles if I had to. I think it might come from running consistently (not that I am all that consistent, my miles will range from maybe under 10 to 30+) so it's a goal of the progress, rather than outcome, that I am still working on.

Suzannewithaplan · 18/01/2015 21:23

I dont ever ache from running, only sometimes from strength training, perhaps I'm not giving it enough welly Confused

actiongirl1978 · 18/01/2015 21:28

That makes sense mitchy. I think that with running goals change all the time and of course they need to fit around your life, yes maybe it is because I am still trying to establish a routine. I am not so debilitated that I can't do anything, so I've changed all the beds, made a roast, been active etc and yes if pushed I could run again, but I keep taking moments to stretch my hamstrings or foam roll my piriformis or I know I will be really stiff. I wonder if it is related to running on roads. You run on trails don't you Mitch? I did a 10k cross country at Xmas and didn't ache afterwards...

actiongirl1978 · 18/01/2015 21:29

It's only the long slow ones Suzanne. If I do a 4 mile tempo run I barely notice it afterwards. Also maybe some is residual from my insanely heavy deadlifts on Friday ( all of 25kg including the barGrin)

Mitchy1nge · 18/01/2015 21:39

I do my long one on the roads because marathon is a road one (I think! I should probably check Grin) my other runs are either mud or about a 50:50 mix, a mixed terrain route is my favourite - best of all worlds! My right calf loves the mud/hates the road and my left achilles loves the road but hates mud so have to keep them both happy. Otherwise, just normal running I would do all off road so my dog can come too :) we will all be happier when this marathon is over!

The half is a lovely distance, have you done one of those yet?

actiongirl1978 · 18/01/2015 21:51

Doing the Southampton half on the same day as the VMLM. Looking forward to it. Mi did ten miles in 1.57 this morning which is a slowish pace, not sure if I will do the half at the same pace or try and ramp it up a bit. I have three months so I might be able to speed things up a bit!

Love the idea of your Achilles and calf with little personalities of their own! When is Athens?

Mitchy1nge · 18/01/2015 22:01

Athens is autumn/winter - have a friend who does it every year and she rarely goes over 15 miles for her long run, last year her longest training run was only 8 miles (but she struggled, it does sound tougher than many other marathons) I'm doing a sort of local-ish one in May with my brother, he's so old and so thin yet so fast Envy and some friends from my club

originalpiratematerial · 18/01/2015 22:14

Hello, here you all are! I have failed to post for a week or so and fallen hopelessly behind. Can't remember when I last posted Blush but anyway, I did 5.2 miles today, 3 miles on Thursday and 2.6 miles on Friday which makes, er, 10.8 in total i think. So that's 1608.1 I think.

standingonlego · 18/01/2015 22:15

Thanks folks, appreciated Grin. emummy funny you should mention Helly Hansen - I wore my long sleeve t from them today, had it a long time and is still my favourite :)

postmanpatscat · 18/01/2015 22:17

5.6 miles to add from me, was 1597.3 I think so now 1602.9.

Talking of long runs, that's the furthest I've run in ages! Admittedly I could have kept going but I didn't
