Suzanne* I'll let you know how it goes. We pay a lot of taxes in France but the health service is brilliant - the cardiologist consultancy and effort test are free here as long as your GP gives you a prescription.

Tiredemma · 19/01/2015 20:51

Ive had a night off running tonight - but feel guilty...

who runs everyday here?

EdithDickie · 19/01/2015 21:18

I also aim for 4 days a week. Tomorrow is rest day - lush!

EdithDickie · 19/01/2015 21:23

Failed to add up earlier - sorry.

EdithDickie · 19/01/2015 21:24

I am going to be in Cardiff on Monday and Tuesday - can anyone recommend a good running location - would like to do 8-10 miles. I will have car so can drive to a good place. Thanks!

5madthings · 19/01/2015 21:26

I am doing four days a week, Mon, Tues, thu and sat at the moment as that is the plan I am following. I have realised the only time I can fit on a run.tomorrow (40min pace training, sprints etc) is if I get up at 6:30 as dp goes to work tomorrow morning and.isn't home til wed eve. If I don't go tomorrow morning (not a morning person) I will do it whilst madthing5 is at pre school on wed, then run thu and sat as planned.

Tbh as I ran so late today, after 5pm am not sure if running 13hrs later is a good idea? Maybe it is better to wait til wed? But. I know if I do get up and start the day with a run I will feel good for the rest of the day...

cinnamongreyhound · 19/01/2015 21:30

Is stopped wearing my hrm a while ago Suzannewithaplan but my heart rate often was greater than my supposed maximum!

Happy birthday 5madthings!! Impressive running on your b'day, I did on the one before last because it was parkrun day Grin

I used to go for 3-4times a week tiredemma but more like 3 times since I've been pregnant, resting is important!

Well, I just made it to canicross run tonight but less than a minute! Did 3.75 miles mostly in very light snow Smile 1626

cinnamongreyhound · 19/01/2015 21:31

Whoops, missed last page! 1634.77

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 19/01/2015 21:35

Happy birthday 5mad - I'd wait until Wednesday if I were you.

Suzannewithaplan · 19/01/2015 21:36

Thats reassuring Cinnamon:) I was starting to wonder if my ticker was doing things it ought not to. Confused

I run every other day Tiredemma, I'd like to do it more often but I am scared that I will overdo it and thereby break running for myself

5madthings · 19/01/2015 21:48

I think you are right ohone I think what I will do is get an early night, set my alarm for a morning run and see how I feel when it goes off, chances are high that I will turn it off, roll over and go back to sleep!

When I do get up early for a run I always feel fab after and all smug for the rest of the day, but I am not a,morning person. Plus as I ran so late today it's prob better to wait til wed.

Thanks for the bday wishes :) am very excited to pick up my garmin forerunner 15 tomorrow, it was out of stock in my john Lewis so have done their click and collect and it will be waiting at the waitrose by the madthings school from 2pm tomorrow so I can pick it up on the school run! Another reason to wait til wed to run as then I will have my lovely new toy to use!

Mitchy1nge · 19/01/2015 21:57

happy birthday 5madthings! Wine

seem to be running 5 days a week again - usual little Monday run, club tomorrow, maybe Weds off, have new friend to run with who is a marathoner and we'll do 8 or 9 miles on Thurs (slow for her fast for me), Friday is 10k+ with my slow Joggers (we did 7 miles last Fri, very gentle pace), Saturday off then am trying to establish the Sunday Long Run (anything between 10 and 13) by myself

but I think from Monday morning until Tuesday evening is more than a day's rest so I don't know, it is a goal to cut down the midweek running and focus on the Long Run instead and keep the weekly volume as low as possible while still getting marathon ready if that makes sense

Mitchy1nge · 19/01/2015 22:00

I prefer to run shorter distances on consecutive days, even twice a day, than have more than one day off between runs

obviously it happens sometimes - illness injury whatever but I don't like it, I don't know why, it's just one of my many neuroses

Suzannewithaplan · 19/01/2015 22:07

?I find I get more of a high if I have a longer runs, needs to be at least an hour and a half for me to really enjoy it, at my current stage I feel I need a non running day after that.

Mitchy1nge · 19/01/2015 22:16

I love how adaptable running is to each individual! I know people who run 5k 3x a week, a chap who does 10 miles every day for six days then has a day off, mad people on 75 miles a week - it's weird how alike they all are yet how different their actual running is

am just entering the obsessional phase of this, everything is zeroing in on that Long Run, the specificity of it

EElisavetaofJingleBellsornia · 19/01/2015 22:44

Another 5.5 from me, gorgeous frost on the common but so cold I had to put my hoodie up to make sure I got back with ears intact.

Thank you to whoever posted the link about building up stamina on the last thread, 2 weeks then increasing distance is working well for me. I increased again today and am feeling proud!

Suzannewithaplan · 19/01/2015 22:45

very many rabbit holes to run down and disappear!

Mitchy1nge · 19/01/2015 22:48

god yes

that's a good way of putting it!

AggressiveBunting · 20/01/2015 01:01

1643.7 including my 5.5k treadmill effort this morning. My butt is in agony after front squats in crossfit yesterday though, or netball umpiring- not sure which. Haven't umpired for a few weeks and the side running/ constant changes of direction does get you a bit- I guess it's not a very natural movement.

Anglaise1 · 20/01/2015 06:47

Agresseive as part of our Tuesday night club training we are doing a pass the ball game whilst running all the time. Its good fun, 2 teams and we have to run constantly. The constant changes of direction definitely work other muscles - most of us are more exhausted after that than running straight intervals.
EElisavetaofJingleBellsornia Great news that you are enjoying your running and are able to build up gradually. Its amazing how far you can run when you try, a lot of it is confidence and mental strength.
I run 5 or 6 days a week at the moment, probably too much but like Mitchy I'm getting a bit obsessed with running especially with the marathon only 2 months away now. 2 or 3 of those runs are just easy 10k ones, though, the 3 main ones are the important ones, either long, or interval training for speed. Have started feeling guilty when I don't run which is really stupid and I need to get out of that mindset.

AggressiveBunting · 20/01/2015 08:08

You're not kidding - it's getting worse. If my glutes get much tighter, my butt's going to be yanked half way up my back Shock. Thank god it's upper body stuff tomorrow.

I normally run 3 days a week, plus my little commuting runs to Crossfit but they dont really count as just a way of getting from A to B and earning me a kitkat in the process. Even if I have to short the distance, like today, I try to get my trainers on and do a bit rather than get into the "well if I cant do the planned x miles I may as well not bother" mode.

Mitchy1nge · 20/01/2015 08:32

well if I cant do the planned x miles I may as well not bother" mode

yes I agree so much with this, you can do something with any run, even if I just work on progression/negative splits it's something I can tick off as an achievement and gets me closer to my goal when I've run a couple of miles instead of the several I had in mind

Mitchy1nge · 20/01/2015 08:33

I have drastically under performing glutes.

Tiredemma · 20/01/2015 09:18
