2015 Running Thread Part Two
cinnamongreyhound · 18/01/2015 22:25

I was still doing my long run in the forest Mitchy1inge, road running then seems easier but I guess it doesn't prepare joints for the harshness of the road!

Suzannewithaplan · 18/01/2015 22:35

my runs are all the same length, (around 10 miles every other day) maybe if I did a longer run once a week I'd feel more soreness?

Mitchy1nge · 18/01/2015 22:37

haaaa! oh my goodness it took me SO LONG to get out of the house this morning, my fear of the cold is worse than the actual cold itself I think

Mitchy1nge · 18/01/2015 22:38

it's probably horrible for our joints isn't it, road running

am converting to it though - at least a bit

Suzannewithaplan · 18/01/2015 22:45

my impression is that the stress may be more on muscles and tendons than joints....and that up to a point things are strengthened by the forces of running.

I'm always wondering, where is the 'sweet spot' when does it start to do more harm than goodConfused

Sorelip · 18/01/2015 23:36

3.9 from me, 1606.8

AggressiveBunting · 19/01/2015 00:27

Another 4 from me this morning makes 1610.8

Administrative oversight meant that the only Crossfit class that had space this morning was the 5.15am (forgot about the "January factor"). Had to get up at 4.30 and was running by 4.45. It was, literally, the middle of the night. Was quite nice being home before the kids got up though. Got to umpire netball tonight as well so it's going to feel like a loooong Monday.

My schedule is up the swanny this week - school tours/ assessments are wrecking my usual TT morning long runs (I'm such a committed parent- lol). Might have to resort to treadmill.

Actiongirl the fact you do interval training means that you automatically run fewer miles. The effort is still there, though!
I don't usually ache for runs up to around 18 miles, so around 3 hours. I was fine after my 13 mile run last week even if it was done at over 10kph. Never tried foam rolling. Am currently trying to improve core strength and like Suzanne I definitely ache after press ups and tricep curls. Hadn't realised how unfit my upper body was compared to my legs!
Mitchy I don't think I'll do over a 3 hour run for the marathon training. In addition I have 2 other races programmed in preparation, a 10k race mid Feb, and a Half Marathon 28th Feb. Hopefully that should be enough to get me through Rome!

actiongirl1978 · 19/01/2015 07:44

Anglaise, did you ache when you first started to long run though? I wouldn't ache after 6 miles now, but I suppose I did ache after my first few 10Ks! I wonder if it is also an adaptation thing?

Coupedefoudre, could you go out in the mornings? I always find dark getting lighter much easier to deal with than dark getting darker ifyswim? Also I invested in a headtorch for morning runs (I live v v rurally!)

Agressive - what kind of gym are you in that opens at 4.45am? I want to join too, I would be so much more efficient with my time!

actiongirl1978 · 19/01/2015 07:46

Mitchy, it is bad for joints I am sure, but it is so much more trance inducing, without having to concentrate on your feet.

Oh and yesterday I put some new music on my phone and ran to PJ&Duncan 'let's get ready to rumble' and it made me grin. Love it when you are 8 miles in and something makes you grin and sing along!

AggressiveBunting · 19/01/2015 07:59

It's a Crossfit gym. It opens at 5am and the class started at 5.15 (usually I do the 6.15 one though). It takes me 15-20 mins to run there, so I left at 4.45 and got there just after 5am.

Mitchy1nge · 19/01/2015 08:19

argh it's not going to get above freezing before my Slow Joggers convene in a minute

am pulling extra bits of kit out of the dirty laundry Blush hopefully everyone has a cold and won't be able to smell me!

Mitchy1nge · 19/01/2015 08:23

I need a battery operated electric duvet for this morning :(

Suzannewithaplan · 19/01/2015 08:55

It'll soon be summer Mitchy :)
(very glib but it's the best I can come up withBlush?)

Mitchy1nge · 19/01/2015 10:10

perhaps but it is also very true suzanne! at least I have nothing to whinge about in the summer (apart from choking on flying insects, getting stung, bit of lithium toxicity etc)

2.5 VERY slow miles (one of group has bad breathing problems when it is below freezing) but winter is so pretty (bit of snow on the ground) I enjoyed it - a slightly Bad Thing happened though, as we set off I felt a strange tiny jiggling sensation inside all my layers and then I realised I'd piled woolly jumpers etc over the t-shirt I'd slept in and was not wearing a bra Blush poor elderly boob ligaments, hopefully a slow trot of less half than hour won't have done any harm

1610.8 + 2.5 = I know this one I know this one

Suzannewithaplan · 19/01/2015 10:18

No braShock
That sounds exactly like one of my recurring anxiety dreams.
Are you sure you didn't dream it?
Or am I having a lucid dream?Confused

I had several insect in mouth experiences whilst cycling last summer ?:(

Mitchy1nge · 19/01/2015 10:24

I don't think it's the first time either, seem to remember glancing down and thinking 'wow, my nipples look fucking awesome'

obviously nobody could see a thing, my top layer was a thick schockemohle winter jacket - it was that or full ski kit

Mitchy1nge · 19/01/2015 10:26

I mean remember from maybe last summer or some other time when it was possible to run wearing only one top!

I need to speed the fuck up so I warm up, club night tomorrow come what may

Suzannewithaplan · 19/01/2015 10:33

I have barely any bosom, and even less of it since I upscaled my running habit but I couldn't run without a bra, ?

Mitchy1nge · 19/01/2015 10:36

it wasn't a good feeling! i had to flex something sort of under my arms to hold them in place!

maybe will take precaution of sleeping in running bra

Mitchy1nge · 19/01/2015 10:37

mine are shrivelling up a bit :( somehow have lost a whole kg following my eat more, move less resolution Hmm

Suzannewithaplan · 19/01/2015 10:48

I'm starting to wonder if running more than a certain mileage (the exact amount would presumably vary from person to person) triggers a weight loss mechanism, because the body is so much more comfortable with running the lighter it gets.
Or some not quite conscious process, you get addicted to running, improving becomes a predominant theme and all activities are directed to that one aim? so you lose weight by instinct.
Obviously there is a line here which should not be breached, but it is a moving line...to an extent ?

ahem, well thats my monday morning ramblingsBlush

Anglaise1 · 19/01/2015 10:49

Actiongirl I never ached after training runs (long ones at low intensity, or shorter runs at high intensity), but then I always did a lot of walking before running. I did ache A LOT after my first 10k, HM and longer trail races. But races are different, the speed you do them is around 25 - 30% faster than your usual low intensity runs.
A brisk 7 miles from me in the sunshine and 1°C.
Much more enjoyable than running in the rain and mud yesterday.
1620.3
I think...
