Thats interesting about socks. Im blaming it on ill fitting running shoes - my left foot is bigger than my right one, meaning if a shoe fits it properly it rubs on my right, whereas if it fits my right foot my left toes are crushed.

I have a heel grip in but the blister is on the side of my sole, on the inside of my foot, which makes me think its the seam between the sole and the shoe which is chafing. Ive double checked and there are no sharp bits, do you think packing it out with cotton wool would help?

I will look at Karrimoor socks for a cheap starter and see how they go.

Thanks guys!

cinnamongreyhound · 02/05/2014 13:01

Rubbish for your pain and yay for your lb and really sorry about your cat EauRouge!

I bought Aldi running socks and they stopped the blisters but they're too thick so I think to wear them I'd need 1/2 size bigger trainers, now have another black toenail due to very wet run in them last Friday :(

briteside · 02/05/2014 13:49

I am back from a very good lunchtime run. I ran through Hyde Park and into Kensington Gardens - total of 5.7kms, running in the park was brilliant but our office is about a km away and getting there & back was a case of tourist dodgem!

I am off to explore Sworkit app but in the meantime, our challenge is growing:

mitchy1nge 02 May 2.2 miles
briteside 02 May 3.5 miles
Total of 5.7 miles!

originalpiratematerial · 02/05/2014 15:41

I'm going out at 5 p.m. when DH gets back to look after DS3 Grin. I do agree about proper running socks - I've always worn them and don't have problems with blisters. I do from time to time get very sore toes though - and then after about a week the pain goes away but it goes black under the nail. I went to the gym earlier just for a brief workout, did a bit of rowing to warm up and then did squats, press-ups, plank, plank jacks, burpees, lifting hand weight when in press-up position (hard to explain), and sit-ups.

originalpiratematerial · 02/05/2014 15:49

EauRouge - my right calf seems to get a bit congested sometimes - I find that alternating heat and cold seems to help to flush it out, cold first for three mins, then heat - that makes the blood rush to the muscle! It seems to help.

I also bought some compression calf sleeve thingies and have been trying to remember to wear them for a few hours after longer runs - they seem to help.

Having said all that, my right calf feels really funny at the moment, so I think this evening may be spent with a bag of frozen peas and a hot water bottle.

HalleLouja · 02/05/2014 15:52

We had to do burpees with jacks whilst in press up position in HIT. They were fiercely painful.

originalpiratematerial · 02/05/2014 16:40

They're awful aren't they? I sweat like a bastard doing that HIIT stuff.

EauRouge · 02/05/2014 16:43

Thanks, pirate, I'll give that a go tonight if I manage to get the DDs to go to sleep at a reasonable time.

CQ · 02/05/2014 17:06

I run in thick Nike socks. I like the DryFit ones but found over the winter when my feet were permanently soggy that thicker ones were better - more like hiking socks - and now if I switch back to the DryFits I get a rub on my instep after about 4 miles.

Am also of the opinion that burpees are the invention of Satan - I can't do them without feeling nauseous after about 3.

So this morning I did 5.65 miles including some HIIT. Cannot actually move now. Do I round up or down? I'll call it 5.7 in honour of all the squats and sprints I did too.

So the total is now

mitchy1nge 02 May 2.2 miles
briteside 02 May 3.5 miles
CQ 02 May 5.7 miles

Total so far 11.4 miles!

PostHocErgoPropterHoc · 02/05/2014 17:21

I'm a bit of a lurker, but I like the idea of a communal target. I've just been out, should I include my warm up walk or not? It was 3.4 miles with, 3 miles without :)

LostMyPants · 02/05/2014 17:53

Include the walk surely! I'm sure i won't be running all of mine!

Excited to go out again now so i can add mine to the total. Also have just got endomondo and a case for my phone and looking forward to trying them out. Might go out tonight if i can get finished work in time. If not it will be tomorrow.

PostHocErgoPropterHoc · 02/05/2014 18:05

That's true LostMyPants, I didn't run the whole thing once I'd finished my warm-up walk either, so may as well include everything :)

So, 11.4 miles plus my 3.4 miles...

Total so far 14.8 miles!

originalpiratematerial · 02/05/2014 18:17

Right people, I've done 5 miles (I won't include warm-up and cool-down walks because that will make the maths too complicated Confused and I didn't measure them anyway Confused). I hope there aren't any penalty points for being SLOW Blush.

originalpiratematerial · 02/05/2014 18:17

So that's 19.8 miles!

RhondaJean · 02/05/2014 18:34

Original, lifting hand weights in oressup position is renegade rows.

Kettlebell and trx out for a home session later, no gym today for me, next run Sunday.

LostMyPants · 02/05/2014 18:39

If we manage 20miles a day we will be at 500 in 25 days :)

originalpiratematerial · 02/05/2014 18:58

Thanks rhondajean! I thought there'd probably be a name for them!

I just looked on Endomondo and embarrassingly that five miles is one of the slowest runs I've ever done and certainly the slowest in a long time.

postmanpatscat · 02/05/2014 18:59

I'll add my miles to the total when I actually do some! Only one run this week, would have gone last night but DP wanted to eat out, not run. Might have gone tonight, but got home an hour ago and deduced that DP has gone for a run, and I have now wasted the last hour dithering as I thought 'well surely he wouldn't have gone out just before I get home, so he must be back really soon'. Obviously not Hmm

I want to do a REALLY long run this weekend, I said that two weeks ago and it just didn't happen.

I run in km not miles though, bet you're going to make me convert it, aren't you?

Hope all those with ouchy bits get better soon!

anotherbitofcake · 02/05/2014 19:21

Me me me can I join?! I feel lost. I have a four month old. I used to run miles and miles. I've only just started again. Where have my legs gone??!! Doing Bristol 10km next weekend. Investing in a running buggy soon too. So excited!!

anotherbitofcake · 02/05/2014 19:29

Halloumi I prob shouldn't be running much yet as pelvic floors still feel a bit wobbly so I'm just going v slowly. Had forceps birth but was running up to 6 months preggo. Well I say running, more like shuffling round. Not sure how the 10km will pan out Confused am desperate to start again though as it will hopefully make me feel a bit more 'me' again

cinnamongreyhound · 02/05/2014 19:31

We are in discussions about dc3 and I do worry about how mad I'll get while I can't run Wink

orangeflutie · 02/05/2014 19:45

Hi just checking in to say I ran 4.25 miles todaySmile to hopefully add to the total and I wear More Mile socks.

Sorry to hear about your cat EauHmm I have a 5 year old Burmese and would definitely miss him if he wasn't around as he's so loud. Hope your calf gets better soon too.

Btw I am having a blonde moment here probably but what are burpees?

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 02/05/2014 20:07

Hi anotherbit! And wow, 4 months on, huge respect! (Only took me almost 3 yearsBlush

officelady · 02/05/2014 20:39

Checking in ... Rest day today but I'll add my miles after tomorrow's run. Mine will most definitely be in single figures but every little helps and all that!
I'm doing a 5k to 10k plan which seems to be 3 easy runs per week then 1 longer run. Am hoping it will improve both my stamina (currently non-existent) and my speed (embarrassingly slow).
My socks of choice are Karrimor Sports Direct cheapies. I especially enjoy the fact that they are labelled L and R for the respective feet. Makes me feel about 5 yrs old when I put them on Grin
I'm doing Jillian Michaels DVDs on my rest days, with 1 proper rest day per week when I do nothing except drink lots of wine.
flutie burpees are the invention of a twisted mind - stand up, touch toes, jump out into push-up position then reverse. All at speed. Nightmare! But they do give you lovely shoulder muscles & stomach muscles if you do them regularly!

originalpiratematerial · 02/05/2014 22:02

So 19.8 + 4.25 is ... er, is Blush

Maths was NEVER my strong point.

24.05?
