I wonder if we can get to 500 before we fill this thread?

Be interesting to see if we run more than we talk Sirzy Wink

AmberNectarine · 02/05/2014 07:39

I've done 10 miles so far this week. Will probably try for another 7 or 8 over the weekend. My bum feels ok this morning, so fingers crossed it was just a minor, short-lived ailment. Rest day for me today anyway so an opportunity for it to get totally sorted.

Has anyone done the Swindon half? Was considering as my MIL lives down there so I could dump DH and the kids with her and go off. However the messaging seems to be that it's a 'challenging' (read: hilly) course, and while there are a fair few hills around here so I'm not bad on them, I am a bit nervous of the idea! Just wanted to see if anyone had any experience. There is a 5m mult-terrain on the same day which could be fun and more manageable.

originalpiratematerial · 02/05/2014 07:50

I've got that age-old dilemma - am feeling a bit under the weather, not sure whether to run or not Confused. I know the rule is that if the lurgy is below the neck, you shouldn't exercise - but I can't tell whether this is going to be a chesty thing, or just a throaty thing! I think I may wait until late afternoon and see how I feel.

TessTackle · 02/05/2014 08:07

Can I/should I attempt a run after D&V?

Chopstheduck · 02/05/2014 08:59

oww looks sore Cinnamon! I had a knee like that last month after falling from my bike on ice. PS I still think you should do both Wink

TessTackle - how long has it been? I'd be careful because you might still be dehydrated. I also find that running speeds up my bowels and last time I went with a dodgy stomach I had to call dh to come and collect me in the car as I was desperate for the loo again Blush

RhondaJean, are you wearing running socks? I got a horrendous blister like that once, and have run in Nike dri fit since with no further issues.

CQ I'm going to sign up as soon as I get paid, can't wait now! I can run one day on holiday, and we back on thurs, so can do a short run on fri too, so should be fine.

My ankle is def on the mend which I am relieved about. Will be cycling and body pump today and aim for a longer run on Sunday.

TessTackle · 02/05/2014 09:06

Oh Chops don't say that Grin last bout was early hours of yesterday morning. Took one dose of Imodium and I feel much better. Running buddy has already insisted we only go for a little one and puntuate it with loads of walking so guess I'll try that!

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 02/05/2014 09:19

Oh Cinnamon, I was on my ipad yesterday & didn't see your picture, that is impressive (& looks very painful!)

I will not be doing a fasted 10kms again, as I have a dodgy tummy today & am sure it's related!

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 02/05/2014 09:20

Chops that's interesting about the socks, I have been indecisive over whether it's worth forking out for proper running ones...

Sirzy · 02/05/2014 09:23

I wear the marathon socks from sports direct and they are great.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 02/05/2014 09:28

Thanks, Sirzy will check that out at lunchtime Smile

EauRouge · 02/05/2014 09:30

I haven't run for nearly 2 weeks :( and my legs are still very stiff/sore. My right calf, which wasn't even injured before, is rock hard and throbbing. Haven't had time to go to physio what with the cat dying so think I'll have to drop out of the 10k I'm meant to be doing this weekend.

On the plus side, I've lost a whole pound doing MFP. Go me Grin

Love the idea of the miles challenge, will join in once I'm up and running. Arf.

Yes to proper running socks, they help prevent rubbing and stop your feet getting soggy from sweat. I have the Karrimoor ones, they are cheap and do the job just fine.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 02/05/2014 09:32

EauRouge am so sorry to hear about your cat Sad

Hope your legs feel better soon - you could always do Huntingdon 10kms! Wink

EauRouge · 02/05/2014 10:00

Thanks, he was almost 10, so not old but very ill. We all miss him :(

I would have to injure my DH to get in the Huntingdon 10k, it's his turn to run. Every time a local race comes up we argue about who is running it and he won this time, so I'll be watching with the DDs.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 02/05/2014 10:04

aww Sad (my little choccy oriental kitty was only 2 when he died rom lymphoma, I still miss the little guy, definitely my first 'baby'

Well, you could always do the St Ives 10km - I'm planning to do that in July (even though it's the next weekend after Tough Mudder! Hmm

briteside · 02/05/2014 10:57

I am def in on a little thread challenge - it will make me go running this lunchtime!

cinnamon your knee looks so painful!

Yes Yes Yes (And another yes) for proper running socks. I love the Nike Elite Training Quarter Socks but at the moment am mostly running in the Karrimor Dri-Run socks (Got them on special offer from Sports Direct) and they are also very good.

I am not keen on the Hilly Mono Skin or any of the double layer anti-blister socks...

Oh dear, that does all make me look rather...er... fussy

ThursdayLast · 02/05/2014 11:23

I'm sorry Eau, pets are little rascals for wheedling their way into your heart Sad.

Just attempted a bit of cross training using fitness blender. FFS whoever invented burpees wants shooting. I nearly threw up!
Switched to a kettlebell workout instead!

I'll be adding my miles tomorrow, after parkrun.

EauRouge · 02/05/2014 11:27

Burpees are the devil. Is fitness blender the same sort of thing as sworkit? I deliberately pick all the easiest stuff on sworkit, I'm so lazy.

Mitchy1nge · 02/05/2014 11:42

well I am adding an impressive 2.2 miles which we ran extremely slowly and carefully in the Slow Jogger group this morning

Mitchy1nge · 02/05/2014 11:45

in sock-related activity I am wearing my turquoise gococo calf compression beauties

they look nice with orange t-shirt :)

briteside · 02/05/2014 11:53

I am smiling at the image of mitchy in turquoise and orange (Ironically, those were the colours of my last pair of Brooks Ghost Running shoes!)

Seriously though - how are the compression socks? I can't decide whether to try a pair - what exactly are they meant to do? Anyone else wear compression clothing for training?

ThursdayLast · 02/05/2014 12:00

Ooh I don't know what sworkit is??
Fitness blender is a plethora of different types/lengths/difficulties of workout, quite a lot of HIIT stuff. Bloody useful for cross training purposes.

I'm sure you looked v fetching Mitchy, so our grand total is at 2.2 miles!

Mitchy1nge · 02/05/2014 12:08

I am in a waiting room now unchanged and still looking shit hot in my running gear (with my purple saucony road shoes)

my physio said the compression stuff wasn't really evidenced for my troubles which were caused by overexertion (a polite way of saying am not as fit as I like to think) but they just happened to be -/on the bathroom floor-- clean ish

EauRouge · 02/05/2014 12:09

You won't get run over in that outfit, Mitchy Grin

Sworkit is a phone app, you can choose your own workout based on whether you want strength or cardio or a mix, or just to work on your arms or core etc.

Sirzy · 02/05/2014 12:16

Following the talk of burpees! I hate them too.
