Well done on new PB cinnamon

Tess - water and nutrition are such individual things, they say you should just drink to thirst

So long as what you are doing works for you, you should be fine. I don't drink during runs either, but I rarely run for more than1.5 hours and I live In a cool climate. So I can get away with just drinking when I get back.

Briteside - I can only conclude that you and I are so much younger than all the rest, As we are on metric.or maybe they are all American .

fingersonbuzzers · 14/05/2014 22:34

Ooh cinnamon, I'm jealous of your 26 min pb Envy

Tess - I never drink water when I'm running, just drink a fair bit not long before I go, but only if I remember.

Will probably be regretting not taking any tomorrow though.

TessTackle · 14/05/2014 22:35

It may well be to do with my fitness level at the moment, I weighed this morning on my inaccurate scales and I'm just over 11 stone so I've lost 7lb in the last few weeks, and I feel more toned everywhere. Hopefully my fitness level will improve now!

Fishandjam · 14/05/2014 22:45

Nice going Tess!

TessTackle · 14/05/2014 22:54

Thanks fish still got a long way to go.
Struggling with my eating habits at the mo, mumsnetting to distract myself, can you tell?? Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 15/05/2014 07:48

Well done TessTackle, weight makes a big difference to running pace.

I used to measure in km KristinaM, as I started running with c25k so was trying to get to 5k. Once I started running with my club I found everyone talked in miles so I just got into the habit of doing the same and then changed my phone app over to it too. It's quite hard to have a conversation when people are talking about their minute miling and you only know km pace :). I use Kg for weight and cm for height but we do still use miles most of the time for distance. My best friend is Czech so I've got quite good at converting most measurements so we understand each other Grin

It's taken me 2 years to get that pb fingersonbuzzers, my first 5k time was 34 mins in July 2012 :)

Been out for 4 miles this morning, little dog still a bit odd when running but she didn't sit down today!

Total 628.1

sassytheFIRST · 15/05/2014 07:51

Haven't run outside for a few weeks but going this morning. Aiming for just over 5 miles. Bit nervous; I can do it easily on a treadmill but outside is different!!

fingersonbuzzers · 15/05/2014 08:17

Well done on your weight loss Tess!

Well I managed to get out for a run this morning as my Mum is here and kindly did the morning routine with the DC for me so I could get out before it got hot.

Did 7.5k but think I was quite slow. Will upload my run from the new garmin later. Adding 4.7 miles to our 624.1 total giving us 628.8 miles :)

Chopstheduck · 15/05/2014 10:10

well done on the weight loss, Tess! I don't take water, but I agree, do as your body tells you. I have a couple of coffees and water before I go, and usually water and a protein shake when I get back.

Morrigu congrats on your first 10k, well done!

I can't run on a treadmill. Couple of miles and I just really struggle. I think I like the hills and being outside. I will happily run in torrential rain or on snow rather than run in the gym!

Someone mentioned foam rollers - TK Maxx had some nice looking ones in the other day, and running belts, etc. I wish had gone there before sports direct!

5 from me, 633.8 . Already warming up outside, but it was early enough to be able to keep in the shade. i am so going to struggle when it properly heats up!

Chopstheduck · 15/05/2014 10:12

Jsut noticed there was a cross post earlier so I don't think cinnamon's 4 went on, so I believe we are on

637.8

Hope that is right!

fingersonbuzzers · 15/05/2014 10:44

Chops - yes you're right, I didn't add my figure to the correct figure! your 637.8 total is the right one, thanks :)

sassytheFIRST · 15/05/2014 11:04

Well I did it! Quite warm and my knee started twinging during the last mile but still did 5.2mi in 51 mins. Quite a bit in the way of brief walks too.

sassytheFIRST · 15/05/2014 11:05

I make that 643.0 in total.

Mitchy1nge · 15/05/2014 11:14

no heatwave in suffolk yet, still running in winter jacket (but I am old, and it might warm up a bit later in the day?)

I should have 2.5 to add for today's '30 minute run/walk' which I log as a RUN, yesterday I forgot my Garmin so goodness knows

Mitchy1nge · 15/05/2014 11:19

oh it's 2.4 so 645.4?

I use miles and km, but the watch is set to miles for the same reason as most people, most clubs work in minute per mile pace and most training plans are in miles

I convert it to km/h for MFP if I remember to log it there

vladthedisorganised · 15/05/2014 11:25

Well done everyone! Circuit training for me so no running today.

A daft question - can any springy-haired runners recommend a cap that won't fly off at the first hint of a breeze? Really need to get one for running in the sun and rain, but the ones I've tried so far (run365 cap was the latest) seem to be incompatible with my hair!

Mitchy1nge · 15/05/2014 12:06

no idea about the hat but here is a photo of an obstacle on my route last night being photogenic for once, and some of the faster members of the family showing me how it's done

Oh no, have woken up this morning a hey all over with sore throat and temp - and it's only 3 days to my first 10k race! Not happy. Have spent the morning in bed, trying some light housework now. Hope it's only a 24 hour thing

AmberNectarine · 15/05/2014 12:40

I don't tend to take water. Occasionally take lucozade sport/squash on a long run (10k or more) if it's hot. Otherwise I find it irritating to hold, plus I'm another who cannot run and drink.

Chopstheduck · 15/05/2014 12:52

I have a pic! Not my usual running route, but a cycling route yesterday on the 4 mile ride to the gym. Came across these adorable baby geese! Might have to take the dts to feed them at the weekend.

Mitchy1nge · 15/05/2014 13:58

oooh aren't they beautiful! so fluffy!

Mitchy1nge · 15/05/2014 13:59

feel better soon emmummy Flowers

msmoss · 15/05/2014 14:02

Hello again everyone, I did 3.56 this morning which would take the total up to 648.96 I'm not sure about rounding this, do we stick to 1 d.p.? Another good run this morning, I managed to squeeze just under a 9 minute mile pace (literally 8.59) for the first time since I came back from my winter break, very satisfying.

Fingers crossed it is just a very short lived bug emummy

TessTackle well done on the weight loss, I second cinnamon it will start to make a difference with pace, when I started running again after DC2 I was about a stone lighter than I had been the last time I was running and I think it made a contribution to me getting much faster. I do also do pilates though, so some of my increased pace is also related to much improved posture and core strength.

I'm also considering my first parkrun this weekend, but need to check on DH's plans.

I only take water on long runs (over 45 minutes) or if it's really really hot, I have one of those bottles that has a hole in the middle which is much less faff than a bigger bottle and I think it was quite cheap.

TessTackle · 15/05/2014 14:02

Hope you're feeling much better soon emummy
I've got 4.4miles to add, bringing the total to 649.9

Came home from my run, bathed, and went straight back out and clocked up over 6miles walking, over 700 calories burnt today Grin I did however just have a magnum but DD bullied me into it Blush

msmoss · 15/05/2014 14:04

Loving the pics btw.
