Hello everyone and well done for clocking up the miles to almost 600!

I haven't run since Sunday, been laid a bit low with a bad chest and weird headachey thing that comes and goes.

Anyway, did a Step class today and held up ok so I'm planning a run tomorrow and going to use my new Garmin that I bought from youbethemummylion which I arrived today! Thank you so much youbethe :)

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 14/05/2014 16:29

Mitchy1nge It seems Strava that I was using on my phone was fibbing to me, and I wasn't running quite so far/fast as I thought (wished it had been the other way round! Grin

TessTackle · 14/05/2014 16:37

Is anyone braving the heat wave tomorrow?
I'm a bit hesitant if I'm honest, I've brushed off the shitheads in the park but I don't want to run in 22 degrees

Bully me into it pretty please!

Blatherskite · 14/05/2014 16:44

Tess you need to go out tomorrow to get acclimatised. It's only going to get hotter this summer and if you're bailing now, you'll end up not being able to run for months.

I'm going to go but not until 7pm so hopefully, it'll be cooler by then

TessTackle · 14/05/2014 17:05

Thank you Blathers ever the voice of reason! I'm going to be out by 9.45am after nursery drop off.

I'm already a sweaty wreck, so yes I do need to get acclimatised.

Mitchy1nge · 14/05/2014 17:10

it was running around aimlessly in the warm weather last year that got me hooked on distance running so I can't wait

degustibus - that does sound very annoying!

Morrigu · 14/05/2014 17:16

My first ever 10k completed today - had to see if I could do it before the 10k run next week so total is 597.1. Sub 1hr by like two minutes :) so I'm happy with that. I'll see how happy my hips, knees and ankles are tomorrow though. That's me done running until Parkrun on Saturday and I'm glad of the break now seeing the weather as it's to be more clammy than sunny here. I hate running in the heavy heat as I sweat horrendously as it is.

TessTackle · 14/05/2014 17:21

Oh Mitchy maybe I'll fall in love with it eh? I forgot to get a cap over the last two days. such a tit. Will get one ASAP.

I'm loving c25k btw, it was weird the first couple of runs, but now I'm on week 2 I like the structure of it. Having set runs and rests means I can't/won't give up before my time is up. Also fitting in 3 runs a week feels amazing.

originalpiratematerial · 14/05/2014 18:11

Yes, I need to get acclimatised too. I was ok until June last year (if you remember, we had a very cold spring) and then hardly ran at all until September. Did do a few runs in Ireland in August, including one memorable one where I rounded a corner and met a bull. That NEVER happens in Hackney.

CQ · 14/05/2014 18:17

pirate Grin

I used to live in Houston where it was hideously hot and humid. The advice there was to drink more (obvs) and to slow down. You can still do the same distances but don't expect to be as fast.

I have the converse problem now I'm back in Blighty - hate running in the cold and wet!

Well I didn't run all weekend as I was hosting a birthday sleepover for 6 13 yr old girls Confused and had no time or energy to escape. Went for a long slow amble with the dogs but was drained.

Today I timed myself on a 5k, flat run and was spectacularly pleased with my 32 mins. That's not far off my PB of 29 for that distance and I am still much heavier than I was then, so I think all the hills and sprint work are paying off.

And I lost 6.6lbs in the first week of LowCarb Bootcamp madness so clearly that is what made me so speedy Grin

fingersonbuzzers · 14/05/2014 18:21

Well done Morrigu, that's brilliant!

Tess - argh, hadn't thought about the weather..I was planning to go at 9:30 but got someone coming round to do a quote on the garden tomorrow so can't now. Will have to leave it til either lunchtime or I might see what time DH gets home and try to go in the evening.

Either that, or I could lunch it and use the treadmill in the gym...but I'm due to do 4.5 miles tomorrow and I think I may die of boredom if I attempt it on that..

TessTackle · 14/05/2014 18:29

fingers I think I'd rather do 4.5 on the air conditioned treadmill than in 22 degree heat at lunch time!

AmberNectarine · 14/05/2014 19:43

I'm planning on running 10k home from work through C Lon. That should be nice and sweaty with a rucksack on my back. Sigh.

KristinaM · 14/05/2014 19:59

15km today. Nice and cool here

CQ · 14/05/2014 20:08

Ooh, forgot to add mileage, so 3.1 for me, plus 9.3 for KristinaM and that makes the total

drum roll

609.5

KristinaM · 14/05/2014 20:11

Woo hoo

Thanks CQ. I need a grown up to do my sums for me now Blush

cinnamongreyhound · 14/05/2014 21:34

Well done Morrigu and CQ!

I agree TessTackle, lovely plan, really believe in it.

I did my clubs 5k time trial today I got 26min dead which is a pb for me. That makes total 612.6

TessTackle · 14/05/2014 21:53

So I was just having a nose on someone elses running advice thread, and a few of you said no water...

Erm, what?! I always take water and always drink the full 500ml. Am I doing something wrong?

postmanpatscat · 14/05/2014 21:54

Well done morrigu it's a great feeling!

And cinnamon too, my PB is 26:45 I'd love to knock a bit off.

Another 3.2 miles for me tonight bringing us up to 615.8

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 14/05/2014 22:01

4.3 miles from me today so we are now 620.1.

I don't take water with me when I run, I have a glass about 20mins before I go out and then some more when I get back, prob just over 500ml altogether.

briteside · 14/05/2014 22:10

no water tess ? I always take water and normally drink most of it. I get parched if I don't take any...

I had a glorious run in the sunshine today, in Regents Park. It was possibly the best run I have had in ages...I really found my rhythm and had no issues with burning calves or numb feet.

I did forget to wear my Garmin though, which raised the question that has been bothering philosophers for centuries: If you go for a run and you can't upload it to GarminConnect, was it really a run? Grin

I ran 6.5kms (4 miles). New total 619.8 miles (Don't worry Kristina - I don't do miles so use Google to add my miles to the total. (After I have used Google to convert my kms to miles Blush))

cinnamongreyhound · 14/05/2014 22:13

I don't drink while I'm running at all, usually take water at stations in a race over 10k. Drink before I go and 500ml-1litre when I'm back.

briteside · 14/05/2014 22:14

sorry! I typed too slowly...

new total 624.1 miles with cardiff !!!!

TessTackle · 14/05/2014 22:24

I don't think I'll ever manage a run without my water if I'm honest! I rely on it in my little breaks.

RhondaJean · 14/05/2014 22:29

I don't take water, cannot run and drink at Thr same time, cannot carry anything while I'm running cannot talk breath or anything else either

I try not to drink just before I go out as I only need to pee then,

I come straight in and immediately drink half a litre and then sit with a two litre bottle, i do drink loads of water in general. And I only do 3.1 miles at a time.
