Well done pirate, 32 mins is excellent for a first timer!

Blatherskite · 10/05/2014 15:38

Ha Kristina, I've done my RD training now and sorting out odd numbers in the finish funnel is the bit that still scares me!

I had to tell someone off the last time I was at my home run and give them a very similar lecture to above. We don't have an "Unwanted tokens" bucket but unwanted tokens can be passed to any marshal or given to the barcode scanning volunteers to be dropped in the bucket - or just break off and don't enter the funnel so you're not assigned a time.

AmberNectarine · 10/05/2014 15:49

31.36 for me - could have been better but was concentrating on not slipping over! Still at least I have a target to beat now.

originalpiratematerial · 10/05/2014 16:07

Thanks so much Kristina!

I came 37th out of 49 women runners and I was really pleased with that. I hadn't really thought about places and was a bit surprised when someone nipped past me at literally the last second! I will be a bit more on the ball next time as I was just sort of ambling along by then.

originalpiratematerial · 10/05/2014 16:08

Oh and another thing - over half the runners at my one are affiliated to clubs - is this normal? I hadn't really realised there would be so many serious runners there.

AmberNectarine · 10/05/2014 16:10

I was 77th out of 95 women, 250th overall. There were nearly 300 at ours. And yes, lots were serious runners. To place in the top 100 you needed sub 24!

originalpiratematerial · 10/05/2014 16:14

Wow, Amber - that's awesome!

originalpiratematerial · 10/05/2014 16:16

The average time at the one I went to is c. 25 mins. I have only ever once broken the 30 min barrier so I fear I will be well below average for my entire Parkrun career. I am not bothered though, it was fun and people were nice!

KristinaM · 10/05/2014 16:18

Yes I think it's normal . But don't being intimidated, most running clubs cater for a wide range of abilities and experience.

The man who was first at our Parkrun today finished in 15:32 a full minute and a half ahead of the second person. He took a token , stopped for about 10 seconds to catch his breath and then chatted politely for a minute. Most of these guys get their token and half collapse against the nearest tree. One even lay down on the path at the end of the funnel .

I find it quite reassuring that even these very good club /elite runners are absolutely exhausted immediately after their run.

briteside · 10/05/2014 16:20

well done all on your park runs, some great times! I agree standing i love logging 1n on saturday aftenoon to read the PR stories!

I chickened out of the park run. So bad, I know. I got a case of the jitters and then allowed myself to be persuaded to do an early kids cinema with DH & the DC's instead.

While on our way out, ironically, we drove past the last section of the parkrun route. It was 9:36am - I saw the marshal and a lady running - she looked 'normal' and must have been doing about the time I would do. I could have kicked myself for not doing it and announcd to the family that I WOULD do it next weekend!

KristinaM · 10/05/2014 16:21

It's only worth worrying about others peoples times if you are hoping to be selected for the commonwealth games Wink

Otherwise you are just competing against yourself Smile

originalpiratematerial · 10/05/2014 16:24

I just find it interesting - I do like all the stats!

AmberNectarine · 10/05/2014 16:24

Yeah I'm pretty sure I won't be in that top 100 anytime soon, but I'd like to keep beating my PB.

LostMyPants · 10/05/2014 18:34

Can't keep up with thus thread at all. Checking in to add 1.3miles. Can't find the last total though.

I did my first km in 5:41 which is a pb by a while. Knees are sore but improving - resting doesn't seem to help them much.

anotherbitofcake · 10/05/2014 19:54

Polka I've just bought out and about nipper sport. Not run with it yet but I know it gets good reviews.

Well done parkrunners!

I've got Bristol 10km tomorrow. Am vv excited GrinGrin First race in over a year

Fishandjam · 10/05/2014 20:08

443.3 miles after my Parkrun this morning. Nice and slow for my still-sore shins - 37 mins. Still not last Grin

Fishandjam · 10/05/2014 20:09

Ah, 444.6 with lostmypants' run too.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/05/2014 21:58

Loving all the parkrun miles :) will be waiting for your report next Saturday briteside!!

I'm affiliated with a club originalpiratematerial and not a serious runner Wink

I don't get going to a parkrun and not taking a token, never had that personally. Why would you go to a timed 5k and not get a time? Just go for a run!!!

No running for me today as I have a race tomorrow. Slightly annoyed at my dh actually! He has known about it for a whil, always ask him before I enter any race (money, time and Childcare) and he always says fine. He was supposed to come tomorrow but decided that he won't so I've arranged to go with a club mate. He then said while I was cooking dinner I didn't need him at a 10k as that was easy for me, I said its 10miles not 10k and he said oh that's a lot of running I should come Confused. I have arranged to go with someone now and although she's running too (probably 15mins quicker than me) it's not the same as having support. I love them to come and have someone at the end but also to be with them the rest of time. Most annoyingly does it matter what distance it is whether I need him there? Support is support, I'd love him to at least occasionally show up at parkrun but that won't happen!

originalpiratematerial · 10/05/2014 22:22

Oh God I've just realised I haven't told you lot about my epic Garmin FAIL. So I only got it from Amazon yesterday. Charged it ok and all that. But only turned it on just as Parkrun started and was 2/3 way round before it finally found GPS signal. I will be switching it on a bit earlier next time! And then there was some little kid at the end who was going, ooh you've go the same Garmin as me, so I had to 'fess up that I didn't actually know how to work mine Blush Grin.

Cinnamon -Dontcha know that if you are stuck with a piece of modern technology, you should always ask an 8 year old ?
