Hi Briteside
At parkrun you need to keep your barcode with you on the run. At the finish you get a numbered token. The numbered token is assigned to the time that person finished. This and your barcode are scanned into together so that your run time is registered.
If you run without your barcode (or lose it mid-run!) you'll get a numbered token and can look the time up later on the website but it won't be registered to you.

originalpiratematerial · 10/05/2014 08:02

briteside I'm doing my first parkrun this morning too! Sure we will bumble through! Good luck!

officelady · 10/05/2014 08:22

Did a quick 2 miles this morning - and by quick I mean slow. Very slow. There was a really strong headwind, surprisingly hard to run against!
But that does bring our total to

390.1 miles

Sirzy · 10/05/2014 08:46

2.5 miles done (I think i work in 2k and did 4.1km) in 27 mins which i am happy with.

so 392.6

Hello everyone. 3 miles from me yesterday so 395.6 now I think. It was a great post-school-run-run before starting work, but I didn't have time to do a longer run or the inclination.

which Parkrun are you doing today? Good luck, I'm certain you'll enjoy it. In fact, you'll be there right now looking at the clock, so here's hoping you did enjoy it.

Enjoy your weekend running everyone ...

Good luck first time park runners today!
I'm being a bit lazy and have skipped today's parkrun - I will probably go for a run in a while, I just couldn't face the 20 minute drive there!

Don't forget to let us know how it went - and on the pr thread too!

Sirzy · 10/05/2014 09:27

For once it seems the weather was with me, lovely sun when I was raining and now its windy and pissing down

Am getting some ankle twinges. Ive started a new thread in 'exercise' asking about gait analysis and physio, what itnis, when to get it, what to look for. Please, anyone who has experience of either, add to the thread to help us new runners.

Morrigu · 10/05/2014 09:35

Good luck parkrunners today.

Cardiff I'm an overpronator too and it causes problems for my ankles - and that's with support shoes so I would say gait analysis is a must.

AmberNectarine · 10/05/2014 10:18

I just did my first Parkrun this morning so the new total is 398.8. Really enjoyed it, though it was muddy as hell. now in the bath trying to rediscover my original skin colour.

originalpiratematerial · 10/05/2014 10:36

I just did Parkrun for the first time too! It was really good fun. So that's 401.9.

My brand new Garmin didn't pick up the satellite signal until I was 2/3 way done. Epic fail!

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 10/05/2014 10:56

Well done to all parkrunners this morning!
I managed 3.2 miles this morning taking us to 405.1. My ankle was quite sore until I got warmed up and then it wasn't too bad at all. Although it was very much a plod rather than a run!
Will rest it tomorrow and see how I go and try and get down to the running shop for a gait analysis and shoe fitting next week.

MelanieCheeks · 10/05/2014 11:25

3 miles form me and my morning parkrun!

It was a GREAT run - went to a new venue (will be doing my blog-tour-update later), PBed AND beat my closest rival for the first time in many months Grin

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 10/05/2014 11:44

411.7 with Melanie's 3 and a slow 3.7 plod from me.

Ankle hurt, then it warmed up and was ok again, rhen it hurt again from 4k. I'm going to do a tour of local gait analysis machines and see if they all agree with one another!

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 10/05/2014 11:49

Well done parkrunners, especially originalpiratematerial and AmberNectarine for your first parkruns. Grin

PostHocErgoPropterHoc · 10/05/2014 12:53

Hello, a short 2.8miles from me today, but apart from my warm up walk I ran without stopping, which is good progress for me!

Total 414.5 miles

thefemaleJoshLyman · 10/05/2014 13:34

Ran a slow 5kish this morning. I say ish because I forgot to turn off my Garmin! last km was 10.4 minutes!

No parkrun due to running a playgroup event. Now stuck at home for restbof the day with Dd with chickenpox.

Standingonlego · 10/05/2014 14:29

Well done to all first time parkrunners, love seeing this thread on Saturday afternoons hearing all about it!

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 10/05/2014 14:29

A slow(ish) 10km (66 mins) makes the total 423.8? Smile
Am still deflated that my garmin is more accurate than strava and I am slower than I thought! Blush

Mitchy1nge · 10/05/2014 14:38

4.5 fucking arduous muddy miles to add but on phone with v cracked screen so can't add up :)

Blatherskite · 10/05/2014 15:00

I did more parkrun tourism again this morning so between me and mitchy I make that 431.4 miles :)

Runkittyrun · 10/05/2014 15:01

437.1 miles with my 8.8 and Mitchy's 4.5. Not a fun run this morning - chucked it down with rain, headwind and treacly legs after the race on Thursday. Arduous is about right! The good bit was seeing a baby rabbit in the grass next to the path, it looked up and then hopped away into the field. It was so small and cute!

Runkittyrun · 10/05/2014 15:02

Cross posted - so total is 440.2

originalpiratematerial · 10/05/2014 15:26

Ooh I'm so excited - I've got the results from my first ever Parkrun - 32:45. I'm quite pleased with that as it's the first time I've done it and I've had a virus and not run for a week.

KristinaM · 10/05/2014 15:28

Well done everyone, especially first timers. I hope you have all signed up for your emails and texts , it's so exciting when they arrive. When my 8 yo did his first Parkrun , he printed out the email and took it into school to show the teacher < bless> .

I was volunteering today , dispensing finish tokens and was amazed how many refused a finish token and had to be persuaded to take one .

For the benefit of anyone who is unsure -if you enter the funnel you NEED to take a token or it messes up the timing system. When you enter the tunnel you are assigned a time eg 25:32 and we need to match it up with a place eg number 136.

If you don't take a token or skip out of the queue, your time will be assigned to the runner behind you and all the numbers will be one out.

If you don't have your barcode with you and you've gone through the funnel, you just take a token and drop the token in the bucket marked " unwanted tokens " at the scanning area. If you remember your place, you can see your time online later. It just won't be assigned to you.

And if you don't run the full course, you can finish the run but please don't go into the funnel. We can usually spot runners who have only done one lap of our two lap course, but not always. If you do this, it will mess up your own times for ever, as you will never get a PB.

Here ends the public service announcement Grin
