aaargh cannot keep up with the posting on this thread! Running and chatting obviously go hand in hand Grin
cinnamon can I just say YOWCH!
I missed my scheduled run last night, ended up going to the opticians for an emergency appointment and she put eye drops in so I couldn't see for about 3 hours afterwards. Didn't want to risk running blind, so I gave it a miss. I'm ever so slightly worried that running has caused my eye problem but optician thinks it is pure coincidence. I've suddenly got a load of floaters (snigger) in my right eye. Anyway I've been referred to hospital consultant but as a non-urgent case so I am not panicking yet.
I shall try my hardest to get out there tonight after work and do a few miles to add to the total.

cinnamongreyhound · 09/05/2014 07:25

You'll be fine with 5k originalpiratematerial, just enjoy it parkrun is fab. I'm RD this week and have to take my boys which is a bit of a pain especially if it's raining as is forecast!

anotherbitofcake · 09/05/2014 07:45

I can't keep up either! Am getting my running buggy today v excited. He's only 4 months so might have to wait a bit before running but will see.
Will read rest of thread now!

anotherbitofcake · 09/05/2014 07:47

Yey fingers

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/05/2014 09:29

Well done fingers! I would love a sub-1 hour 10K Smile

Thank you for all the good wishes my foot feels tons better today, but still twingy if I put too much pressure on it so I am still going for the x-ray. I can't do parkrun anyway tomorrow, so am on a bit of enforced ret anyway.

Fingers crossed it will just be a fleeting thing, because my race numbers have arrived for the marathon challenge I signed up for over the midsummer weekend - it is a 5 mile road race on Friday, 8.1 trail on Saturday and 13.1 on Sunday Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/05/2014 09:30

Hope your RD'ing goes well tomorrow cinnamon and that it stays dry for you!

PolkaSpottyDotty · 09/05/2014 09:58

anotherbitofcake Do you mind if I ask which buggy you've got? I've tried running with my Phil & Teds this morning and it was horrible. It is very old though and heavy.

alleypalley · 09/05/2014 10:13

Wow. I'm obviously far too lazy for these threads.

I've only just been for my first run this week. I have been letting the excuses beat me. I felt very plodding today, my thighs were still protesting about a kettle bell workout I did two days ago, I ended up being a minute slower than the last few times I've done that distance.

I'm working all weekend but will definitely go again on Monday.

KristinaM · 09/05/2014 10:22

Alley -unless you are training to be a sprinter, it doesn't really matter how slow you are. If you want to get fitter, it's juts about getting the miles in .

Fishandjam · 09/05/2014 11:06

No worries thursday! Will you be packing your white stilettos and stonewashed skinnies for your secondment?

originalpiratematerial · 09/05/2014 13:57

Thanks Kristina and cinnamon Smile

Feel much better today, I have a tickly cough but not a chesty cough, my throat's better and I've just had a massage which did open up chest and upper back a bit so I can breathe now! And my legs, having had a week off and a massage, feel super light!

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 09/05/2014 14:28

358.7 miles and counting

Blatherskite · 09/05/2014 14:34

I added another 3 miles at lunchtime so we're at 361.7 now

Morrigu · 09/05/2014 15:20

Originalpirate that's a great idea about taking it slow round parkrun as Kristina said. I went to my first one last weekend and belted round it more than a minute faster than out by myself. Didn't mean to but other runners there do spur you on. Now I can't see me beating that in a long time. I loved parkrun, enjoy it.

originalpiratematerial · 09/05/2014 17:12

I just had a look at the route and if I'm not mistaken, part of it is along quite a narrow bit of path that I run along anyway - it's just about wide enough for two people to run abreast, but there are always lots of cyclists on there too. I'm having trouble understanding how a group of people can run along there. It is, however, at about the 2 km mark - and then you turn back at 2.5 km - so maybe by that stage all the runners are strung out, with the 20 minute people being miles in front and the carthorses like me right at the back?

originalpiratematerial · 09/05/2014 17:14

It's here www.parkrun.org.uk/hackney-marshes/course/

Runkittyrun · 09/05/2014 19:26

365.4 now with the 5k race and warm up from yesterday's local league race. Waiting for the official results but hopefully sub-26 mins and a new PB. Didn't push it any harder as my left calf and hamstring were quite stiff.
Luckily it stopped raining and brightened up just before the race started!

Not sure who mentioned it earlier but Grunty fen HM is definitely open for entries.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 09/05/2014 19:53

Just done 5k, so total is now 368.5 Smile

officelady · 09/05/2014 20:23

Did a lovely 4 miler after work so that takes our total to 372.5
Well done everyone!

ThursdayLast · 09/05/2014 20:34

Reluctodog and I managed 5miles this evening, so I make that 337.5
Not bad going everyone!

Morrigu · 09/05/2014 20:50

A very slow and easy 3.1 to add so 380.6. Best of all the ankles seemed to hold up ok. Hurrah :)

orangeflutie · 09/05/2014 21:22

Hi I managed 4 miles this afternoon and my foot was ok thankfully. I'll try and catch up with thread tomorrow.

Well done everyone.

CQ · 09/05/2014 22:04

Evening all. Despite being on LowCarb Bootcamp I managed 3.5 miles this morning with the dogs so plenty of sniff stops Smile

I felt good and could've gone further but decided to turn for home and err on the side of caution today until my body has got used to the carb famine.

So with orangeflutie's miles and mine, I think the total is now 388.1

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 09/05/2014 22:26

The order of the day for me today has been rest, ice and ibuprofen. Sad
I was at work this morning and my job is not the sitting down kind and that was okay. I felt my ankle pulling a little on the way to pick DS up from school this afternoon so I put it up when I got home. Following a few glasses of red this evening it feels grand! WineBlush
I might try a slow walk/jog tomorrow morning and see how I go.
Extensive research via dr Google suggests it may be caused by over pronation in my left foot so it might be time for gait analysis and new shoes, something I have never bothered with before as I never really considered myself a "proper" runner.

briteside · 09/05/2014 22:33

Hello all,

Great to see some brilliant running going on.

cardiff so sorry that your ankle is giving you rtrouble. Definitely worth a gait analysis in a proper running shop.

No run for me today toobusy eating junk food at
home

I am wondering about doing my first park run tomorow but am petrified of having to go on my own. How does it work - I know I have to print off the barcode. Do I give it to someone?

I am hopeless at social things like that, I always tend to chicken out if I don't know what I am meant to be doing. Blush

And I realised that I am very close to EATmum as (I just read on the Parkrun website) that her nearest parkrun is my second closest!!
