Hello all!

First run for 3 weeks today. Think my leg has survived, I vpcan feel something in achilles but it is not painful. Will try another slow 5k on Saturday (not parkrun I'll get over excited). So I can at last add 3 miles to the total, it wasn't a full 5k.

So sorry to hear about all the other injuries, none of them sound pleasant. Not running has made me so grumpy and stressed I know that you will all be frustrated.

Hope my leg will allow me to train properly for the Huntington 10k in June and then the Great Eastern.

Think chickenpox has just arrived in my house, so could be a crazy couple of weeks. Shock

Oh no fishandjam!
That weekend I'm on secondment to Essex. I am hoping that my captors might allow me to do a little parkrun tourism of my own.
I'm so sorry for being a rubbish host.

cinnamongreyhound · 08/05/2014 19:34

Good luck fingersonbuzzers!

Eek briteside, I think I can be a bit too brave stupid with running but usually have the dogs and figure they're a good deterrent.

Oh no! Hope it's not a fracture OhOneOhTwoOhThree! I didn't break them all just the middle three. I suffer from low blood pressure and have light headed moments, one Saturday morning I decided I didn't need to sit back down and passed out as I got into my shower room and think I must have kicked the corner of the shower tray on the way down. So stupid and was very close to have pins inserted down each toe into the metatarsal but I healed well thankfully!! Couldn't find the pic from when I actually broke it but have attached one from 2 weeks post break :)

I was supposed to run twice today as I had two friends who wanted company but at different times. My second friend has bailed due to the rain so it's only 4miles from this morning for me Wink

Think I x-posts with quite a few of you!

Found the photo two days after I broke it when I finally decided to go to hospital!

Owowowow. This page should carry a warning!

Standingonlego · 08/05/2014 20:02

Ouch ouch ouch everyone Sad. Be careful out there people

fingersonbuzzers · 08/05/2014 20:44

I'm back! And I did it!

Thanks for all your advice Blathers, I did exactly what you said and basically tailed some poor girl for the entire second half Grin

The course was 6.3 miles so I was rather gutted when the Garmin said 6.2 and I was still running! Did it in 58:56 according to the Garmin, which I'm properly chuffed with given it's the first time I've run 10k in 10 years!

So I'll add 6.3 to the total, which along with joshlyman's 3 miles brings us to 352.9, I think.

Ohone good luck with your x ray tomorrow - I hope it's not the worst case scenario.

joshlyman - well done on getting back out there after your injury. Sympathies on the chicken pox :( we had that a couple of months ago and it's v restricting isn't it?

cinnamon omg that picture!

Sirzy · 08/05/2014 20:55

Oh no too many injuries, hope your all better soon.

Well done fingersonbuzzers

I have found I am scared to go out at the moment incase I injure myself before my 10k and reading this thread isn't helping! but I am going to just have to go for it and be careful. I don't think going into it with no running for 2 weeks is a good idea!

Blatherskite · 08/05/2014 20:56

In that case fingers I was THERE when you finished!!

I arrived just after the 2nd lady got in and chatted to her and some other runners I knew until they started packing the finish away. I was looking out for black t-shirts but there were quite a few

58:56 is an awesome time for a first 10k in that long by the way. You're going to be way faster than me soon!

cinnamongreyhound · 08/05/2014 21:05

Fab time fingersonbuzzers!

pootlebug · 08/05/2014 21:20

Okay, I give up. I have tried to work on my running speed, but I cannot, cannot, keep up with this thread.....

Blatherskite · 08/05/2014 21:24

I can't keep up either pootlebug, I just dip in whenever I can.

For example - I have no clue what the distance? updates are all about?

briteside · 08/05/2014 21:40

WELL DONE fingers That is a brilliant time for a 10km!!!

So sorry for those who are injured - those pictures made me scrunch my toes in sympathy! I hope that a restful night helps speed up recoveries.

blather we started a challenge to see how long it took us to get to 500 miles....(Pretty fast seems to be the answer Grin)

fingersonbuzzers · 08/05/2014 21:41

Thanks guys. I think I'mg going to have sore feet in the morning as totally lost my form after about 5 miles and went through loads of puddles so will prob have blisters later.

Blathers I'll definitely seek you out at some event or other! I know if you put my first name in the results thing for that race it'll give you my full name which is relatively unusual so you could probably spot me on facebook if you want an idea of who you're looking for.

Pootlebug, I've only just joined the thread and I'm struggling too. So great to chat to some like-minded people though.

cinnamongreyhound · 08/05/2014 21:49

My foot pics are 18months old, I was sympathising with those with sore feet and then asked about how I broke my foot so thought I'd share.

Morrigu · 08/05/2014 21:52

Well done fingers I think that's a great time.

Oh my word cinnamon those pics are enough to bring tears to your eyes just looking at them. Man that musta hurt.

Blatherskite · 08/05/2014 21:54

Ah! It'd probably go up faster if I added my miles too. When are we starting from?

Hope you've dried out now fingers. It was wet earlier!

cinnamongreyhound · 08/05/2014 21:58

I flicked back and we started 2nd may blatherskite

cinnamongreyhound · 08/05/2014 22:01

It was hideous Morrigu! I almost passed out every time I tried to put it down the first day, I hobbled around on it for another day and half before I got it x-rayed. Dh said it didn't swell quickly enough to be broken, he felt very guilty!

Blatherskite · 08/05/2014 22:05

It's only a disappointing 4.5 miles for me then. Will add some more over the next few days

Makes 357.4

Fishandjam · 08/05/2014 22:28

I did bootcamp today and in between what felt like hundreds of squats, ten-hour planks and V sits and swinging 50kg kettlebells around, we did about 2k of sprinting. (Not exaggerating that bit Grin). So that's, what, a mile on the total?

Ow ow ow to all the injuries. cinnamon, that's some impressive bruising! Glad it's not recent... ohone, good luck tomorrow.

femalejosh, I'm aiming to do the Huntingdon 10k. Very slowly though - I know if I train to do it faster than approx 1:20 I'll just knacker my shin again. I don't mind coming last - someone has to - maybe see you at the finish?!

EATmum · 08/05/2014 22:34

Well done fingers. Sounds like a great event.

originalpiratematerial · 08/05/2014 23:31

Not keeping up at all here as have been busy at work Shock how very dare they etc. And still lurgy-tastic although finally starting to feel human again.

However, our household logistics will for the first time ever permit me to do Parkrun on Saturday. Is this a mad idea considering I've been ill and not run for a week? I was however doing longer distances than 5k in virtually every run before I went down with the lurgy. I am thinking of going and just doing a slow poodle - that way I'll have plenty of room for improvement on future occasions.

KristinaM · 08/05/2014 23:41

No of course not. 5km isn't far and you can always jog/walk sections. As long as you are well enough, no fever or bad chest etc

And if you go really really slowly and then slightly faster each week, you can get lots and lots of PBs Wink

LostMyPants · 09/05/2014 06:03

Genius idea, Kristina!
