ouch cardiff, hope it is already feeling better

how's your little girl today blathers?

I thought of going for a small one this morning but it's too fucking cold and wet, I really am a summer runner. Lots of riding to do so maybe after that, my little and often plan is working well so far!

feetheart · 08/05/2014 11:10

Hope all those with bumps, bruises and sore bits are feeling better.

Just a quick 1.5 miles to add from DS and I from after school yesterday - he is one very determined small boy and beat me on the sprint finish :)

Total - 331.3

fingersonbuzzers · 08/05/2014 11:15

Oh blathers how awful! How's DD today?

Well done to everyone getting out in this rain! Though it finally seems to have eased off here so I may have to take the dog out while it isn't raining...

briteside · 08/05/2014 11:25

oh blathers I do hope your DD is feeling better soon. How frightening and horrid for her her.

I am meant to go for a lunchtime run but am looking out the window wondering if I can pluck up the courage to head out. It is pouring with rain and looks so cold.

I quite like running in light rain, but prefer it to begin raining after I have already started running. Perfect to cool me down. It is that initial shock of stepping outside into cold rain before I am warmed up that I don't like!

Oh - who am I kidding....I am a fair-weather runner Grin

A local teenager was stabbed in my nearest park on Tuesday afternoon. Sad Absolutely tragic for the family & community - it has also made me question my running route as I run alone along that path at least once a week. It was not isolated or particularly unsafe.

Mitchy1nge · 08/05/2014 11:29

Awful about the violent death, would put me off even if it wasn't a random attack. Have you got alternative routes?

I spend so much time outside being cold or in some other way uncomfortable anyway that it's not much of a novelty to be exposed to the British climate!

EauRouge · 08/05/2014 11:30

Hope your DD feels better soon, Blathers.

I still haven't been to the physio. My right leg is being very odd- my calf has been sore for maybe a week now and today it is tingling and I'm getting pins and needles in my foot. Is this just from stiff muscles? Anyone else had this?

CQ · 08/05/2014 12:58

Eau sounds like you need to call the physio and get some expert advice. Hopefully just a good massage will sort it.

I'm doing BIWI's LowCarb Bootcamp this week so feeling a bit bleargh and lethargic. But 3 lbs down already! I think I may have to give the HIT/running group a miss tomorrow though for fear of being carried home.

If it ever stops raining I will take the dogs out for a brisk walk and see how I feel.

Hope your daughter is is ok Blathers - sending healing vibes her way.

AmberNectarine · 08/05/2014 13:29

3.2 on the treadmill from me - 334.5.

EauRouge · 08/05/2014 13:36

Thanks, I've sent the physio a message. I'm having trouble walking today :(

Blatherskite · 08/05/2014 14:03

Thank you for all the kind wishes. DD is totally fine today and I keep looking at her wondering how this is the same child I was rushing to A&E with yesterday morning! Confused

It was a fairly late night for both of us last night and I was up at 4:30 as I woke and needed to check on her so we're both tired and are having a quiet day of Disney movies for today. If the rain stops, I think the closest I'll get to running today is heading over to see fingers run.

Good luck for today fingers - remember about the extra loop of the lake, keep your head up and keep plodding and you'll make 10k easy. Look forward to that medal and the drink in the pub afterwards Grin

Sorry you're still hurting Eau Sad Physio is definitely the best idea.

Fishandjam · 08/05/2014 15:39

Checking in (very late!) Not sure I can keep up with this thread!

Thursday - Sat 12th July for Lanhydrock Parkrun?

Fishandjam · 08/05/2014 15:42

Eau, with pins and needles, sod the physio and go to your GP. Any other odd symptoms?

EauRouge · 08/05/2014 15:58

It does feel better temporarily when I stretch it, but not for long. It's sort of achey and feels like it's swelling up but it isn't. It's been like it for a while, I think it's worse today because I walked up to the woods with DD2 on my back yesterday.

cinnamongreyhound · 08/05/2014 16:26

The rain seems to be stopping here now.

briteside · 08/05/2014 16:35

Hello all, blather I am pleased that your DD is looking better. I really hope you enjoyed having a quiet day together.

Eau I would definitely skip the Physio and see a GP. Your symptoms sound alot like I would get in my hand when my carpal tunnel was at it's worst and I think the pins & needles was from trapped nerves (rather than muscular)...so best get it checked.

I made it out for a wet run - I actually had a lovely run, which was a relief after my last 2 horrible attempts. I ran up to Regents Park - further from the office but an easier run as I could take quieter back roads. I will definitely make that a regular route.

The park where the stabbing happened was in one part of a bigger park that runs along a small river (And then back along the other side) - so it was a very scenic route away from too much road traffic. I have other routes I could run in my area instead - I just really liked that one.

briteside · 08/05/2014 16:37

Oh - and forgot to add my 3.1 miles to the total so we are now at:
337.6 Miles Total

The numbers are adding up! I think the challenge should be updated to whether we can run 1000 miles before we get a 1000 posts on this thread Grin

HalleLouja · 08/05/2014 17:22

Well done brite. Your name was meant for sunnier climes and not rain. I like running in the rain but not wind too.

fingersonbuzzers · 08/05/2014 17:38

CQ - let me know how you get on with the low carb bootcamp thingy.

briteside - I would be totally freaked out by the stabbing too :( glad you had a good run on your new route though.

Blathers - I might see you tonight after all, I was going to ask if you weren't tempted to sign up, but given the stress and lack of sleep you've had I can see why that wouldn't be an option!

Actually really nervous now, but here goes nothing!

emummy · 08/05/2014 18:02

343.6

Good luck tonight fingers.

Blatherskite · 08/05/2014 18:03

Funnily enough, I've just been fending off people who are trying to talk me into entering tonight :)

If I didn't think I'd probably end up crawling it, I'd be tempted.

You will be fine. By the second lap, you'll have found someone that you're a similar pace to. Latch onto them and just concentrate on following them to the end. It's only an extra 2 miles. That's not even a parkrun* Wink

  • this measurement of distance has become standard in our running group. Avoid us at all costs if you see us 5k before the end of a race as "only a parkrun left to go" will be shouted at you otherwise. Running wife almost lamped me 3 miles from the end of the Dirt Half Grin
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/05/2014 18:04

Woke up in horrendous pain in the middle of the night, thought it was just a cramp on top of my foot but it didn't go away. According to the GP at best it is a localised inflammation which will run its course with ice and ibuprofen, at worst it is a stress fracture. I'm having an x-ray tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed for the former.

cinnamon how on earth did you break all your metatarsals?

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 08/05/2014 18:37

OhOneOhTwo Oh No! Yes, let's hope there is no fracture...but that also, if there is a fracture that the xray catches it. Heard too often of these things being missed.

I didn't like to ask how cinnamon broke all her metatarsals, but now I'm full of squeamish fascination. Grin

Mitchy1nge · 08/05/2014 18:46

oh noooo ohone :( and Eau, that doesn't sound great either :(

have been told that stress fractures are much easier to see once they are mending and hard to see at all unless someone forks out for more sophisticated imaging like MRI or whatever

why do we do it to ourselves!

am in awe of anyone running without useful carbs, is it to lose weight? the best thing about running, for me, is the reminder to eat more often (rather than living on black coffee then stockpiling the calories at night or the weekends)

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 08/05/2014 19:07

Yes, same here Mitchy. I want to get to the point where I can have a modest breakfast, lunch and dinner without piling on weight. I've got as far as breakfast coffee and dinner with the running and a bit of stretching.

PolkaSpottyDotty · 08/05/2014 19:22

Wine for all those on the injury bench.
