Sad to hear that pirate, but better to leave it rather than do it and feel terrible or make yourself even worse. Feel better soon. Thanks

originalpiratematerial · 06/05/2014 22:00

Thanks cardiffuniversity. i get this absurd terror that if I go more than a couple of days without running it will be back to square one and I won't even be able to run 100 yards. Does anyone else get that?

Mitchy1nge · 06/05/2014 22:06

I do get that pirate but it's the other way around isn't it, up to a point, the rest does people good? hope it does you good anyway!

officelady · 06/05/2014 22:12

No time to read properly but just wanted to add my mileage from this evening - 3.5 miles done, which brings our total to

285.9 miles

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 06/05/2014 22:22

Those of you who enter races, do you run for charity? How does it work - do you have to support one of the race's official charities or can you pick your own?

Mitchy1nge · 06/05/2014 22:29

you can usually pick your own and they will give you stuff to help fund raise

I hate the idea of asking for money to do something I like but linked my place in the Edinburgh marathon to one of the few charities I like (MSF) after I'd registered, but you can set up a justgiving page at any time for any reason I think

originalpiratematerial · 06/05/2014 22:30

Mitchy - yes here's hoping! I did wonder why my five miles on Friday was sooooo slow - I guess I was incubating this bug then.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 06/05/2014 22:37

Thanks Mitchy, I know what you mean about asking for money for doing something you'd have done anyway. I have a chronic condition and I'd like to raise money towards research for it, so I'll have to look into it.

Sorry to hear you aren't well pirate, here's wishing you a speedy recovery.

Think I'll be hanging up the running shoes for the rest of the week. My ankle has been niggling since parkrun on Saturday and yesterday after my run the other one started also. Terrified myself seeing pictures of tibialis posterior tendon ops as that's right where the pain is. Knowing I overpronate badly and my knees sit inwards rather than straight I'm thinking of contacting a physio to put me right if there's exercises I could do to correct a bit and strengthen.

Had planned to do a coastal 10k run in two and a half weeks but don't know now. See how the next few days pans out.

feetheart · 07/05/2014 06:22

Morrigu - definitely check out a sports physio, worth their weight in gold and got my iffy knees sorted out with some exercises, insole recommendations and the suggestion I got new running shoes. I ran the GNR 6weeks later :)

CoffeeBucks · 07/05/2014 06:52

I can never find these threads! :(

Despite running quite regularly (between 5-8k twice a week and a bit of interval training in the gym) I am still a bit fat & suffer with shin splints. I bought a new pair of trainers at the weekend and tested them out yesterday, it's like running on bouncy springs Grin

I am running the women's 10k in Glasgow this weekend and really hoping to get sub-60. I have been getting really close to that sort of 10k time & really hope I can pull it off on Sunday.

anotherbitofcake · 07/05/2014 07:34

Softkitty not really. Only big races. Not that I'm running much at the mo but pre little one I'd stick to the smaller organised races (also cheaper to enter Grin) Raised money when I did a race that I thought would be a big achievement for me and that people would sponsor me for iyswim!

Sorry to hear you're not well Pirate - hope you're better soon! I have the same irrational fear of going back to square one if I don't run at least 3 times a week Confused even though I know it's certainly not the case!

no Sunday run for me this weekend, DH is cycling the Jurassic Beast down in Dorset (& looks like the weather will be crap, so no beach walk for DTDs & I!)

dotty2 · 07/05/2014 10:07

I can't keep up with you lot - either on the road, or on the thread. But thanks for the tips re. the rubbing tops. Will try the Vaseline first and check out the top recommendations when the credit card will bear it.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 07/05/2014 10:12

288 miles keep running right over the midweek humpday, everyone.

Sorry to hear about you feeling unwell pirate (and any others I've missed) hope you're better soon, and hope those injuries/threatening aches mend well too.
