Polka, do you watch Modern Family? It's on Netflix, and we're watching it with our DDs at the moment. Episode 5 or 6 I think pretty much covers your DH's behaviour! Maybe you should watch it together ...?

DotToDott · 05/05/2014 13:05

I do like a good drink of milk.

Lucozade Sport, from what i can see, seems to be full of crap so i didn't bother to buy any. I am limited in my choices today as replying on tiny village shop which is ill-equipped to cater for a run-down runner!

settled for some orange juice, lentil soup and brown bread. will probably have a banana before i run and just take water with me.

generally i rely on decent diet/ plenty of plain water to get me by- i don't really like sports drinks but thought it might give me an extra boost today.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 05/05/2014 14:01

Polka, that would be so annoying, glad your DH has decided to lay off!

No run or gym for me today - have a manky tum Sad

RhondaJean · 05/05/2014 14:16

Polka he is being an arse. As I said before my DH is what I class as a Proper Runner and his 10k time isn't far off my 5k PB. I don't run with him because it's like a whippet with a dachshund but he does not make it into a competition, he's very supportive, and if he did something like that. I would be very peed off with him. The only person I think you should be competing with is yourself.

Anyway having said that, I didn't manage my 3.1 miles last night. I took dd2 to her football tournament, did the shopping, visited my parents, took dd2 to her life saving club, met DH for a coffee, listened to dd1s teenage woes and then came home, sat on the couch, fell asleep and woke up feeling lousy. Been in with my trainer today, I will run on Wednesday instead, feels like I let you lot down a bit sorry Sad

Purplerunner · 05/05/2014 14:17

Glitter Is it the Great Scottish Run you are aiming for in October? I'm going for it as well this year. Have done the 10k before (when it still went over the Kingston Bridge) so thinking about the Half this year (will be my first half). Saying that, signed up for it last year but bursitis in my hip knocked that on the head!

Well done on RFL and good luck with your 10k training. It is definitely a bug!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/05/2014 14:59

Dot the theory is that as long as you are only ill above the neck you are OK to run Smile

Polka nothing to add to what others have said about your DH Smile

13.2 to add to our total today (sorry, on phone so can't scroll back to find the running total).

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/05/2014 15:06

196.7 Grin

I am sure we can get to 200 by the end of the bank holiday weekendGrin

cinnamongreyhound · 05/05/2014 15:17

Glad he's seen sense PolkaSpottyDotty, sorry he's tainted your pb though!

Hi GlitterKitten24! Well done on yor race :)

Feel better soon Degustibusnonestdisputandem!

Sounds like a busy day RhondaJean, don't feel bad at all!

Have you got a time yet OhOneOhTwoOhThree?

I've been helping at my clubs 10k today, was quite interesting seeing the other side of it. I was on the A-G number giving out table then did the hog roast so didn't actually see anyone run!

Theonlyoneiknow · 05/05/2014 15:29

I am SOOOOOOO annoyed. Been running up to 13km and then I go and get an Injury from dancing at a wedding this weekend!!!M

It is the side of my calf and it twinges when I walk. Am so gutted. I know I need to rest it but it's so hard :-( SOB

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/05/2014 15:35

No official time yet cinnamon, but my garmin says 13.2 in 2:19, which would be my best since March 2013. My garmin powered down as I was about to cross the line, so by the time I reset it I think my official (chip) time will be slightly slower, but since I ran over 13.1 I won't mind Smile

And since I was still thinking of pulling out this morning because of my cold, and my head was not in the right place for running that distance for the first few miles I am very happy.

I made myself stop and walk at all the water stations (3, 6, 9 and 12 miles) to make sure I drank enough (it was quite hot and sunny - I haven't mastered running and swallowing Grin), and also walked when I was taking a couple of gels, so all in all I'm pleased.

Morrigu · 05/05/2014 15:48

Hi, hope you don't mind me joining you all as I've been lurking for a while since finishing c25k and the running bug has got me. Went to my first parkrun on Saturday and loved it. My goal is to do a hm next year once I have over a year running under my belt.

Polka my ex is competitive and we aren't even together anymore. Soon as I mentioned I'd started running he had to start and tells me these magnificent distances he does. Sigh.

If you are adding distances I did 5 miles this morning :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/05/2014 16:28

Happy dance - official result is a PB only 35 seconds difference

MelanieCheeks · 05/05/2014 16:42

Did a 3.75 mile leg of the marathon today.

But I'm never doing a relay again - far too much faffing about and hanging around in the freezing cold, then trying to find all the others amongst the thousands at the finish line. The running itself was great, but I really didnt enjoy today.

originalpiratematerial · 05/05/2014 16:45

PolkaSpottyDotty, you are not being at all unreasonable - your DH sounds like he has a bit of a bee in his bonnet, and it isn't helpful or supportive at all.

Well done everyone on brilliant runs and PBs! I feel even worse today (just a lurgy, but quite a nasty one) and gutted at no running. Anyway, hey ho, I just got my email from Endomondo with my April stats and did just over 72 miles in April, so given that I had a few rest days after my 10k sponsored run at the start of April, that's not too bad. I never EVER thought a time would come when I would able to run so much.

Blatherskite · 05/05/2014 17:10

I stood and watched the start of the marathon and half this morning OhOne but I missed you :(

The Superhero fun run was going well until DD tripped and somehow head-butted the road! I ended up piggy backing her for most of it but she did run the last bit into the stadium. She has a huge blue egg on her head which will be a lovely, shiney bruise by the morning I'd sure Sad

She looked ever so cute in her outfit though

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/05/2014 17:48

Sorry to have missed you Blathers - we must swap phone numbers for next time! It was all a bit stressy getting there - DH decided he knew how to get there, but of course loads of roads were shut and parking was a nightmare. I got there just in time Smile

Sorry to hear about poor DD Flowers hope she is OK I told DH to look out for wonderwoman, but I think there were lots of them about today Grin

CQ · 05/05/2014 17:52

196.7 plus 5 from Morrigu plus 3.7 from MelanieCheeks plus my 5.5 makes the total so far 210.9

It was a fab Bank Holiday for a run, and I'm sure we'll get some more checking in later.

Blatherskite · 05/05/2014 17:53

I'll message you with my number OhOne.

DD is fine now - bar a big purple lump on her forehead - but it was such as shame as she was running really well and really enjoying herself. She was absolutely determined to run rather than walk and wouldn't hold my hand - which would have saved things when she tripped - as she was desperate to run under her own steam. DH and DS took off and were ahead of us but had a great time too. DS is so proud of himself for finally getting a medal after hurting his foot just before the Sport Relief mile and not being able to run. I think he'll be taking it into school tomorrow :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/05/2014 18:03

Got it Blathers!

Poor little DD, but well done DS Grin I might wear my medal tomorrow as well Grin

PolkaSpottyDotty · 05/05/2014 18:16

Thanks all for the support.

In some weird, manly way I think he feels a bit threatened by my new physical and mental strength. He used to be a super-fit downhill mountain biker oh those lovely legs and now he works 50+ hours per week so struggles to fit any exercise in and he feels a bit fat / lazy. I have no problem at all with him exercising, but it doesn't need to be competitive and mean. It doesn't make me want it more, it makes me back off and feel crap even though I know I've achieved so much already.

Anyway, enough with the moaning. He's been put in his place and I'm going to enjoy a leisurely 5K with my friend along the beach this evening :)

Have any further plans been made for Team Brighton? (Inspired by OhOne and Blathers)

DotToDott · 05/05/2014 19:42

OhOneOh it seems that theory is true, sort of!

I ran my 5k, very slowly as i had to keep pausing to cough, but i'm glad i saw it through.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/05/2014 19:55

Glad to hear you survived Dot Smile

DotToDott · 05/05/2014 19:56

Oh and congrats on your PB! Grin

Mitchy1nge · 05/05/2014 20:06

210.9 plus 2 = 212.9

will catch up on rest of thread in a bit

PolkaSpottyDotty · 05/05/2014 20:55

3.5 miles done tonight!
