Well done OhOneOhTwoOhThree!!!!

Sorry to hear about your dd blatherskite, but great that she managed to run the last bit. I wish my family would be vaguely interested in running :(. Dh is very supportive but not vaguely interested in sharing and ds1 is way too lazy! Ds2 might start when he's a bit bigger.

Mitchy1nge · 05/05/2014 21:25

well done ohone that's fantastic! :)

polka that looks so inviting, hope your husband starts being a bit more helpful

have decided to spend alllll summer preparing for a half, and if I survive that then I can think about spring marathons - but for now it's so nice to be running even very short distances

roquefortlover · 05/05/2014 22:07

Hi everyone, been busy for last week or so and it posted for awhile, good to see so much running going on on this lovely new thread! Your poor dd blathers, hope she is ok enough to still appreciate her medal. polka your run looks lovely, seaside runs are my absolute fave. Sorry your DH is being annoying, like cinnamon my family are v supportive but not at all interested in joining me! I think that might be a good thing given your experiences Grin. No plans yet for team Brighton but maybe we should make some! A parkrun maybe? I have still not done one but would like to.

Well done ohone sounds like you had a good race.

I did 4.6 miles hill intervals yesterday and 10.6 today in the sun which is a total of, erm, 15.2 to add on so 227.9 now I think (though not sure if that includes your 5k polka ??)

originalpiratematerial · 05/05/2014 22:07

So sorry for your dd, Blathers

OhOne - congrats!

vladthedisorganised · 06/05/2014 09:44

Hope your DD is OK blatherskite!

Well done to everyone on the bank holiday running - very impressive!

Very pleased - now that DH has paused his DIY activities and we're both over assorted viruses I managed to get out yesterday. Sunday's run was a mediocre 2.5 miles with a bit of intervals thrown in as I couldn't get my rhythm at all - not helped by knowing I had a half hour deadline to be home and by the fact I hadn't eaten enough beforehand..
Yesterday's 5.5 miles were an improvement - had to walk for a minute or two about halfway into it (why the hell is it that my face gets so hot?) but managed to pick up the pace again on the way home. Just have to treble that in time for September and get a bit faster...

So 8 miles from me with hopefully more to come later today!

Blatherskite · 06/05/2014 10:20

Thank you for the concern about DD everyone. We kept a close eye on her yesterday as advised by the St John's Ambulance people who checked her out and thankfully, she seems fine. The bruise isn't even as bad as I was expecting it to be. She still has a small blue-ish lump but I was expecting it to go black by this morning and maybe even give her a black eye too but it hasn't. It's still noticable and made a lot of other parents wince when we were in the school playground dropping DS off this morning but it's not too bad considering how hard she hit the road.

It's both lovely and slightly annoying that my family have gotten into running too. Dh and I now need to work our runs around each other which can get complicated - although thankfully, he's not into joining clubs or even big races usually so he can work around my pre-set times usually - and at some point I'm going to have to start taking the children to parkrun with me and jog around at the back with them Wink I was absolutely expecting DD(4) to outrun DS(7) yesterday as she did the Sport Relief mile without stopping whereas he would stop every half a mile or so whenever I took him out during Janathon but Dh said he ran at least a mile before stopping and that he was going quite fast! (DH and DS took off in front of me and DD so I didn't see) Our parkrun is a single lap so I've always held off taking DS as he never made more than 1.5 miles without wanting to stop on our runs and that would put him at the furthest out point of the course and he would have to walk back when tired which might put him off. If I can get him to run a little further, I might take him over the summer.

PolkaSpottyDotty I totally get where you are coming from with the husband running thing as mine did something similar. I only started running to lose weight but I've obviously gotten into it a lot more over the last year or so and started making some improvements to my times. I'd get back from a run and tell DH about it and he'd start making comments the next time I went out about how I should knock the same time off the next run as well and was setting me goals which I just couldn't meet which took the fun out of it and just left me feeling rubbish. I told him to see if he could do better so he started running too - and of course, got faster than me very quickly which he openly admitted was what he wanted to do. For a while, I just ignored him or used his own form of motivation back on him and now he's over that flash of massive improvement that comes from being a very beginner runner and his increases of speed are slowing down, he's beginning to get a bit more thoughtful about his comments as he's realising how hard it is.

TessTackle · 06/05/2014 10:38

Sorry about your cat Eau

Blathers so glad your DD is ok Thanks

I'm logging my 5.06 mile run from Friday and my 4.5 mile run from today. Doing c25k and I find it more tiring than just running as long as I can with 30secknd walk breaks!

briteside · 06/05/2014 11:16

blather so glad your DD is OK, I read about her fall yesterday and hoped she was alright!

polka and blather Aren't DH's just annoying!?! My DH does not do any regular exercise, although he was very active years ago. Now that I am into my running, he likes to give me advise and encouragement - often in a rather condescending way. I know he means well, but it drives me insane. I got smug satisfaction when he limped for two days after the last run we did together Grin

I am going for a run in 45 minutes, can't wait! (I am typing this so that I have to go!)

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 06/05/2014 12:17

I've done 3.2 miles this morning and knocked 2mins off my 5k time from last week Smile. Mind you, I timed myself with the kitchen clock last week and used Runkeeper this week, so that might not be entirely accurate. I'll see how I do next time.

I've done my best to add up the mileage from Roquefort's post at 22.07 last night, and including mine I get it to 248.66. I'm no Carol Vorderman though, so please can someone else check it? Thanks.

PolkaSpottyDotty · 06/05/2014 12:55

Brite I'd be smug too :)

I found it hard after the Easter break to fit in a time to run around 4 children and a husband who works long hours. I ran with DD (21 months) in my old Phil & Teds buggy but it was really hard work. I think running after school drop off is the best way to get my miles in and I'll persevere with the old buggy and keep an eye on eBay for a proper running buggy bargain.

AmberNectarine · 06/05/2014 13:08

Another 3.2 to add from me which brings us to 251.86

fingersonbuzzers · 06/05/2014 13:11

Hello all, may I join?

Looking for a bit of moral support! I've been running 5k a couple of times a week for the last few years, do Parkrun when I can. Anyway, recently decided to start increasing my training to do a 10k so have got as far as running 4 miles (from 3k 2 weeks ago).

Then on the spur of the moment signed up for a female only 10k THIS THURSDAY!

I do exercise regularly and do gym stuff and classes plus tons of walking too. But just a bit nervous about the extra 2 and a bit hours I'm going to be doing on Thursday given I haven't run that far before (well, not in the last 10 years, anyway!)

It's doable, right? I did my last parkrun in 27:25 mins and would dearly love to finish the 10k in under an hour, but I think I might have to have that as a goal to aim for in the future...

fingersonbuzzers · 06/05/2014 13:12

(sorry should say got as far as running 4 miles from 5k)

fingersonbuzzers · 06/05/2014 13:12

2 and a bit miles! Sorry, I'm not v well today and obv a bit incoherent!

feetheart · 06/05/2014 13:12

Softkitty - I get the same total.
I'll add my 3.5 miles from this morning in the drizzle.

Total - 252.2 (rounded up for those who like nice rounded numbers :))

feetheart · 06/05/2014 13:13

Forget that, x-posted with a few people, I'll go and add it again!

feetheart · 06/05/2014 13:15

255.5

feetheart · 06/05/2014 13:18

fingersonbuzzers - I reckon you will be fine, just take it extra slowly to start with and the atmosphere on the day and the other runners should carry you through. Most training plans don't take you the full distance and you sound as though you are pretty fit. Take your time and just enjoy the occasion :)

fingersonbuzzers · 06/05/2014 13:20

Ook, thanks feetheart. I was working towards a 10k at the beginning of July so had plenty of time to build up to it.

Just really loved the idea of running just against women and not having that demoralising feeling of being passed by loads of blokes

fingersonbuzzers · 06/05/2014 13:22

Well done to all the amazing marathon and HM runners this weekend btw!

Chopstheduck · 06/05/2014 13:26

258.5

far too hot and humid here today, plus feeling very PMTish!

Blatherskite · 06/05/2014 13:31

briteside DH and I did our first half marathon together and he was limping for days after I felt OK so I definitely understand the feeling smug Wink

fingers You should be fine going from 4 miles to 6 - as long as you take it easy! My first 10k, I went for just finishing the new distance and left the sub-hour etc goals for the next few races. Make sure you're well hydrated and maybe try a few carbs the night before (although you shouldn't need to carb load for a 10k) Take drinks on the way round but don't go mad. Most importantly, just enjoy it :)

I've got the Silverstone 10k tomorrow so I should really take my own advice and go and get another drink...

dotty2 · 06/05/2014 15:20

Hello - I have a slightly mortifying question to ask. I've put on weight lately and am now trying to get back on track with running after a bad start to 2014, in terms of weight and exercise (never completely stopped but was down to only being able to manage a couple of miles and that not very often). I managed my first 5k for ages today - which is dispiriting in one way as I could do 10k at Christmas, but encouraging in another - onwards and upwards and all that. Anyway, the mortifying question. I have a couple of short-sleeved running tops (one adidas, one nike) and they both rub really badly on my bingo wings (the shame). Any suggestions for tops which might solve the problem? I know a vest would, but am not brave enough and it's too warm now for long sleeves. Thank you.

fingersonbuzzers · 06/05/2014 15:48

Thanks blathers - good luck with your 10k tomorrow, I am not actually that far from Silverstone but hadn't heard about that one. What's the course like?

Hi Dotty2 - I am by no means and expert but I hate running in vests and just run in these they are very light and drifit so nice and cool. Though I sized up in mine as I prefer them loose..

feetheart · 06/05/2014 16:27

fingersonbuzzers - flat, very flat. And no shade at all (bitter experience of running first half marathon there in mid-March in blazing sunshine :))
