I think I'll continue to tell DD1 that the age limit is 6. There were some very cute and very tiny runners at our local this week (including one that changed her mind after about 400m, bless her), but there's no way DD1 would manage it just yet.

That's a fantastic time, watchtower, is it a PB?

allalongthewatchtower · 05/04/2014 12:49

Thanks eaurouge, I'm pleased with it. I'm a gym bod really so just do a bit of treadmill running as part of my gym routine. Normally do a 5k treadmill run in 31:30 so a hilly outdoor run in under 28 mins is definitely a pb for me!

I'm impressed that you all have DC who would even contemplate running parkrun. My 5 yo wouldn't even countenance it!

MelanieCheeks · 05/04/2014 16:21

Had a tough run this morning - head just wasn't in it and struggled to get my time under 30. I'd hopes of running my first 10k race of the year tomorrow in under an hour, but I feel that might be putting too much expectations on myself.

allalongthewatchtower · 05/04/2014 16:47

Melanie, it was probably just a bad day today. Tomorrow is another day, just be thankful you got your blip out of the way today so you won't have it tomorrow!

Meglet · 05/04/2014 17:39

I'm pleased to say that mum has agreed to babysit DD next weekend (or whenever the next pleasant saturday morning is) so me and 7yo DS can crack on with parkrun and he can get a smashing pb Smile. He runs with my stepdad so I have a nagging feeling he might do better than me Blush.

cinnamongreyhound · 05/04/2014 19:34

Stay positive MelanieCheeks, an under 30min 5k will lead to a sub hour 10k :)

My ds1 has done parkrun twice, he's six. The first time he did it in 49mins and said he'd never do it again. Asked to come with me again a few weeks ago when I tail ran and did it in 45mins. I'm tail running again in may and despite him saying he wouldn't go again until he was 8 he wants to join me. We have a 7 year old who's been running ours for nearly a year and his pb is 29 mins.

Well done allalongthewatchtower!

Knackerelli · 05/04/2014 21:24

Well done everyone, some great times! Loving the idea of a parkrun crèche Grin

Blatherskite · 05/04/2014 21:41

Hooray watchtower, glad you made it to MK parkrun. I hear there was some problems with the numbers today but I think they all got sorted. You need to come again when I'm there and say Hi :)

Thursday, I'm ready and will be packing tomorrow. Will make sure I put trail shoes in and can add a t-shirt that will make me easily spot-able if you fancy saying Hi too?

thenightsky · 05/04/2014 21:44

another sunny scunthorpe morning today. DS did 22.40 and I was 34.42.

What is this MK of which you all speak?

Blatherskite · 05/04/2014 21:48

Thought I would check in here now a park run has finally opened locally! Been hiding out on the general running thread until now but strangely excited about my first park run next weekend!

eatpuddingdrinkwine · 06/04/2014 12:00

Hello , please may i join you .I am a keen park runner did my 85th one yesterday . I ran/walked with my 4 year old who managed a fab time of 43 mins which included a wee stop and a sit down on a park bench ! His elder sister 7 did her 8th run 32.23 running with DH he is not a runner and looked shattered she on the other hand not even slightly puffed!.We are hoping to try the one in Cornwall next week whilst on holiday. They come every week with me mainly to cheer and eat the biscuits the 4 year old has started before but never finished the whole thing was so proud !

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/04/2014 13:04

That's great eatpuddingdrinkwine! My ds1 who's 6 has done two in 49m and then 45m, but we do have a 7 year old who's pb is 29m something at my local pr.

eatpuddingdrinkwine · 06/04/2014 21:52

Cinnamongreyhound thats an impressive pb! My dd is very keen for a t shirt so will run again soon the 4 year old wanted a medal so am planning to do a 2k fun run with him next month to get a medal !

StartWhereYouStand · 07/04/2014 22:01

So I did my 2nd parkrun and managed to only walk once so beat my last time by a minute. I actually whooped out loud to myself when I read my email with the time!

Though I didn't whoop quite so much when I also found a truly horrendous photo of me mid-run with a grimacing expression Blush

I will be doing it again in a fortnight and really, really want to do the whole thing without any walking. Think I just get a bit carried away with others at the start, go too fast to begin with and then can't sustain it.

MelanieCheeks · 08/04/2014 06:12

Thank you all for your encouraging words.

And yes, I whooped with delight when I got the email telling me that my 10k time was 3 seconds under an hour! That's my first 2014 target met. My next one is to earn my red 50 ParkRun Tshirt.

postmanpatscat · 08/04/2014 12:28

Another parkrunner here...my local is another NT property, Osterley House. Since it's adjacent to the M4, it's not quite as peaceful a setting as Lanhydrock, which I remember from my youth in the south west!

I have only run twice, first was 28:28, which I was pleased with, as it was on my 46th birthday, and the following week (last Sat) was an amazing 27:15, and I am not at all sure how that happened! I was beaten by one of the kids from school, which is most unfair as his previous PB was 28:28 and he knocked off about 90 secs!! I had beaten him the week before. One of the mums did it in 26 something, no danger of me catching her up!

I like the fact that there's only about 60 people at Osterley - so far I have come 31st and 36th Grin

allalongthewatchtower · 08/04/2014 14:37

Well done Melanie! So chuffed for you! You must be so proud of yourself (I would be most certainly).

EauRouge · 08/04/2014 15:09

That's fantastic, Melanie! Well done!

It's our Parkrun's first anniversary on Saturday and it's fancy dress. We're marshalling and it will be no trouble to get the DDs in fancy dress, but I've got no idea what to wear myself.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 10/04/2014 21:22

Brilliant Melanie!

And well done StartWhereYouStand and Postman Smile

No PR for me this weekend - have another commitment at 10am and I am not speedy enough to run, get home, shower, change and get out again. I have next week off so might try to do some freedom runs.

Hope the anniversary run is fun Eau Smile

I can't normally do Park Runs as I work on Saturdays Sad but am tempted to go to one in Bournemouth next week when I am on my holiday. Has anyone done one down there? My husband thinks I am nuts contemplating doing it on holiday but I want to.

thenightsky · 11/04/2014 20:30

Good luck for tomorrow everyone. I'm hoping Scunthorpe will, yet again, be sunny Scunny for me.

KristinaM · 12/04/2014 00:28

Hello fellow pakrunners < waves >

Just popping in to show off that it's my 100th Parkrun tomorrow , I'm so pleased < smug>

And it's all thanks to mumsnet. I started doing the C25k about 2.5 years ago with one of the threads here, then someone suggested that I try my local Parkrun.

I'm not super fast but I've got better . There are lots of other runners my age ( 50s) at my park run and they have encouraged me to try some races. I'm doing a 10k and a HM next month, so wish me luck!

I've made so many new friends and met some inspiring people , especially those running after serious illness , major weight loss or bereavement. Everyone has their own challenges and stories to tell.

Happy parkrunning tomorrow everyone !

Kristina, how lovely Smile I hope number 100 goes off without a hitch!
I am not running today due to buggered knee. Especially annoying as Blathers is at my home PR today - sorry again for not being there Sad

However after running with me last week, my sister has ventured out to try her own local pr, Wimbledon. So I see that as a success!
