We had a fabulous parkrun this morning with Bob - our veteran runner - celebrating his 100th parkrun. Lots of people stayed to cheer, which was lovely. It was a fabulous atmosphere :)

In other news it was muggy, raining at the end and I took it steady as we have the stampede tomorrow.

Well done to the first timers, PB achievers (every second counts), those braving the thunder and rain, the tourists and finally 3 cheers for blathers 100 running wife :)

KristinaM · 07/06/2014 18:12

Lovely cake, someone is very talented !

Well done bob

cinnamongreyhound · 07/06/2014 20:36

Well done woundbobbin and originalpiratematerial!!

Well I overslept but not enough to miss parkrun, luckily someone else put my signs out so I had 20 mins to wake up and get dressed. I was going to take little dog as she can now run after being spayed but she saw the rain and ran upstairs, big dog came down, saddled him up and he saw the rain and wouldn't go either so went on my own!! Didn't feel great and my friend I run with wasn't feeling well so we trundled round in 31mins together. It was really a hideous storm though! Thunder and lightening 1-2 seconds apart, the heaviest rain I've even run in and puddles everywhere despite the sandy soil!!! But despite that we still had 50 runners and it stopped by 10 and was bright sunshine. The rain was warm even if it was torrential!!!!

Shock There's a VERY real possibility that my old form tutor from school will be at parkrun when I go! Was just reading the FB page and his name popped up, so I looked and one of my school friends is friends with him.

Seriously, what are the chances of him recognising me after about 8 years? He was absolutely lovely to me when I was at school (I had lots of issues with bullying) and I did stay in touch for a couple of years after I left.

It's ok to adjust hotel bookings to favour getting to a local parkrun isn't it???

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/06/2014 13:30

It would be wrong not to Thursday Grin

I forgot to tell you all - this really weird thing scuttled across the road in front of me at parkrun yesterday - at first I thought it was a small mammal but then I realised it had too many legs, no fur and the wrong sort of tail. I reckon that some exotic pets - scorpions or giant centipedes - have escaped and are colonising the Lea Valley.

Blatherskite · 08/06/2014 18:10

That's exactly what I did in order to visit your parkrun Thursday so of course it's ok Grin

karatekimmi · 08/06/2014 18:54

thursday most of our rare weekends away involve me checking if there is a parkrun nearby!!

We are hoping to visit Aberystwyth next Saturday whilst away, that'll be my fifth different parkrun.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/06/2014 19:35

I was posting from my phone before so didn't see the amazing cake and guard of honour for Bob. How lovely!

And because it was in haste Thursday I didn't say that DH got bonus points for booking the hotel for our weekend away (for a family wedding) within walking distance of the local parkrun Grin

Well that's good Grin because I've done it anyway!
My knowledge of Southend is v limited, but I believe I should be able to walk to the parkrun, which takes pressure off DP and DS re: hotel breakfast yadda yadda
Love it!

Blatherskite · 09/06/2014 15:45

Hooray! I actually cancelled bookings at hotels in order to book others to be near enough to Lanhydrock to do parkrun Blush

Planing another 3 hour drive up North to do a new one naer my Brother's house at the end of the month too. I've done 12 different courses and 3 inaugurals now. If I can do another 8 courses and/or another 2 inaugurals, I'll make it onto the 'most travelled' list Grin

RedHatNoDrawers · 10/06/2014 10:47

well i got my slowest time yet this week but I had to stop twice to do up my shoelace and it was also absolutely chucking it down. It was so rainy it was fun really.

cinnamongreyhound · 11/06/2014 06:52

I'm RD this week and already have enough volunteers, that's a first!!!

karatekimmi · 13/06/2014 07:31

Hope everyone is ready for parkrun tomorrow?

We are trying a different one as we are away for the weekend, but it's 3 laps and I dot pay enough attention!! I might need a counter!!

Anyone trying anything new?

cinnamongreyhound · 13/06/2014 08:01

Grin at not paying attention!

Blatherskite · 13/06/2014 09:25

I find being hot and sweaty during a run makes me pay more attention karate as I'm desperate for the end Wink You'll be fine.

I'm 'home' again for the second weekend in a row which is still a bit of a novelty after being on tour for 2 months. Volunteering next week and then making a 90 minute drive to Essex for a new parkrun the week after as the one near my brother's has been postponed and as we'd already planned to go somewhere new.....

LollipopViolet · 13/06/2014 12:53

I just had gait analysis done at a local indie sports and running shop.

I over probate badly and my ankles fall in when I run.

Apparently it's so bad it might need custom orthotics to fully correct it, as well as super supportive shoes.

In other words, I have an expensive problem :( I'm not buying new shoes until I know I'm going to keep at it.

KristinaM · 13/06/2014 13:21

Violet - I'd check out the cost of orthotics first, might not be so expensive

And you might need one too in your everyday shoes , if it's that bad

Teenaged Dd has the same problem and she wears them in her school shoes

LollipopViolet · 13/06/2014 19:38

That should be over PRONATE haha. In time I'll look into things like orthotics but I've had no problems really so far in life, so I'm in no rush.

I am a little bit excited for tomorrow - quite tempting to get all my running clothes out ready now :)

Standingonlego · 13/06/2014 20:15

Looking forward to running in the morning - thinking of lollipop having her clothes out already made me Grin. I am always ransacking the house at 8.50 desperately looking for a pair of running socks Blush

LollipopViolet · 13/06/2014 20:27

Don't grin yet, I've not done it! I need to really, it's about 45/60 minutes by buses to my parkrun, so I need to be organised.

Standingonlego · 13/06/2014 20:44

Gosh lollipop that does need some organisation and dedication - hats off to you!

woundbobbin · 14/06/2014 08:23

Am a bit bombed I can't run this morning am just on my way to workHmm but good luck to everyone else hope you all do spectacular PB's Grin
