Who fancies 10km of mud and obstacles? Come and join Team Wolef

Quite a few of us are interested in doing the Wolf Run this September so we were thinking of getting a team together.

It's for all abilities, it should be really good fun. It's not timed and it'll be too wet to wear your Garmin, so don't worry if you're not a fast runner. We'll be a team and no Wolef will be left behind.

It's on the 6th & 7th of September just south of Coventry, so fairly central. If we get a team together we get a slightly discounted entry.

If you're interested, post on here and we'll start making a list.

We also need to pick a charity so if everyone wants to suggest their favourite one and then we can argue about it for ages with no firm decision being made.

So, I'm in and my favourite charity is the Birth Trauma Association.

Hey all - very impressed you're all going for this! I would love to sign up but I haven't run for a long time, have only run 10k once and am incredibly unfit 4 months post birth.

Honest opinions - could I train in time? Starting with C25k? I played roller derby until got pregnant - so am still quite strong, but heavy. I can't get back to that and would love a challenge to aim for!

I can see about 1 ft in front of me without contacts / glasses Grin so would fit in.

Blatherskite · 16/01/2014 10:51

But are you short Rollermum? We're going to have such fun getting over any high walls! Who's bringing the ladder? Grin

I think if you started soon-ish you'd be ready in time. You should have a fairly high level of base fitness from all that roller derby-ing.

I am half marathon training at the moment and usually run 10k at least once a week so I should have enough energy left to drag a few stragglers round if it comes to it I hope :) I've done trail before but never obstacles - although some of my running club are doing the June WOLF run so I'm tempted to sign up for both just to see what it's all about.

Tiredemma · 16/01/2014 11:06

rollemum I am 4 months post birth also- doing Shred and occasional 5k again to get back into some fit state.

OTheHugeManatee · 16/01/2014 12:00

AROOOOOOOOOOO! One of the original MN wolefs here Grin

If you lot are running with the wolefs we will have to claim you all as members of the pack. Are you going to wear wolef fleeces? And will you take photos so I don't have to come along and get muddy?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/01/2014 12:22

AROOOOOOOOOOO!!

jellybrain · 16/01/2014 13:22

GeekLove - the Plank Challenge is doing the rounds on Facebook at the moment- also on Tribesports which has lots of challenges. If you put Plank Challenge into Google it'll throw lots of resultsSmile
Tired mama - love that description have snorted tea across my deskGrin
Roller mum - I started c25k in April last year and was running 10k by October. So it's definitely doableSmile
OTheHugeManatee- I am actually more scared of the fleece than the Wolf RunGrin

EauRouge · 16/01/2014 13:26

We will need the wolef fleeces to keep warm post-run.

Rollermum, I would love to do roller derby but I'm shit at skating and too scared of injuring myself. You don't need to be massively fit for this, there's no timing so as long as we finish before the limit (think we have 4 hours!) then it's all good. No one's taking it seriously, right? Right?! Shall I add you to the list, then?

Any budding artists out there who could design a picture for a team t shirt. We could then all copy it onto t shirt transfer paper. still worrying about that hideous fleece Grin

OTheHugeManatee · 16/01/2014 13:51

This is the one you want Grin

feetheart · 16/01/2014 14:15

Blatherskite - I think I am the ladder :)

EauRouge · 16/01/2014 14:27

Does that mean that if you get your GNR place and don't do the Wolf Run, we'll all be stuck at the first big wall we get to?

Thanks for all the encouragement. Please count me in (arghhhhhhh!) Is on proviso DH is around - I have texted but not replied yet.

Sooo excited! Wanted to do something like this for ages!

Tiredemma waves - I remember you from pregnancy threads I think?

Blatherskite I'm 5'7 so not excessively tall or short. Happy to form the base if any human pyramid as required.

EauRougue do it! Roller derby is amazing fun. Some of the best skaters in the UK didn't ever skate before they started. I've never been injured but I am bit of a bruiser.

beckyboo232 · 16/01/2014 18:23

Geeklove, would be the first event like this I've attempted too. Am definitely in so long as we're a team- want to avoid hideous school sports day cross country flashbacks of being abandoned in the mud at the back Blush
Sounds like We might need to recruit some more tall people...... Grin
Can I just ask about the logistics, would we all pay together etc?
My mum has said she would come along with my son for moral support and to cheer us on.

Standingonlego · 16/01/2014 19:22

I have told my DH he cannot play either - if he wants to, he can find his own pack of wild dogs (and a babysitter!) :)

Standingonlego · 16/01/2014 19:29

I have never done this sort of thing before either, so definitely a team adventure. It is fab to have a super big goal for the autumn and capture that "back to school" feeling.

I am really excited (if a bit scared)!!!! OTheHugeMantee and SDT any top tips you wish to share, besides the need for a flattering and fashionable fleece.

EauRouge · 16/01/2014 21:17

I haven't really thought about logistics tbh. I suppose people can pay online and then whoever gets the free spot can bring cash to distribute amongst the people that paid? Or we could do it via paypal or whatever. I don't plan stuff like this!

"Back to school" feeling? Yep, I think I would have run 10k through lakes and obstacles to avoid going back to school Grin

So, the latest list.
Team Wolef:

EauRouge
Tiredemma

thenightsky · 16/01/2014 21:58

Nearly 3 Wolef teams!

Standingonlego · 16/01/2014 22:10

I think that once we apply we get allocated a time on the saturday or sunday??? Have blocked out the whole weekend :) 3 teams - excellent, bet we get a few more folk before entry opens

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 16/01/2014 22:14

Ooh lots of us! Hooray!

thenightsky · 16/01/2014 22:23

I did ask where this was as I wanted to book a hotel for the night before. Some kind person posted, but I cannot find their post now. Was it Lemington spa?

Tiredemma · 17/01/2014 07:23

yes nightsky- it was me (kind person)

Leaminton spa

Standingonlego · 17/01/2014 07:42

It is about 4 miles outside Leamington. Leamington is really nice, lived there for a year whilst at Uni. It is pretty central too.

wiley are you really going to come over from Jersey? That is super keen!

wileycoyote · 17/01/2014 14:56

Um, yes, I would do if people are really going to commit to it -I can fly to London in 45 minutes and the get the train to Leamington Spa if that's where it is. I would imagine you get a time slot so you can plan travel etc. Imagine how much mud I will export back to Jersey!!

wileycoyote · 17/01/2014 14:59

I just would need a hotel - Perhaps I could stay where you stay thenightsky?

GeekLove · 17/01/2014 21:46

Who lives nearest to the site? I live in Coventry.

Also how will we do the sponsorship? Would setting up a Just Giving page be a good idea?
