DD and I did W2R1 this evening. She was more of a hindrance than a help at times though and I am also sure at one point that we were running a 2min walking section!

I got a fluorescent long sleeve running top from Decathlon (which fits but is snug at present) but felt really self conscious and obvious. There are also no pockets so need to sort out how I can carry my ipod

CeliaLytton · 20/01/2014 01:01

I got this to hold my phone and keys, it has a hole to put your headphone lead through so your phone/mp3 can't fall out of the zip pocket.

I just did week 2 run 1 which on my program is a 45 minute brisk walk to get me used to moving for longer periods. So that was easy enough. Back to the real stuff tomorrow for week 2 run 2.

Wow knitknack you are totally smashing it. Well done.

Miss betsey how did the move to week 2 go?

Tiny good luck with the 10k training.

hotdog74 · 20/01/2014 11:19

Week 2 run 3 completed. Felt much better than Saturday so onwards and upwards to week 3 on Weds.

Well done to everyone for keeping on going - we are all doing really well no matter what stage we are at - but I'm still fainting at the thought of 22 minutes.............

caffeinated · 20/01/2014 12:38

Hotdog glad your run was better. My last proper run was rubbish so you've made me feel optimistic for tomorrow.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 20/01/2014 13:29

Week 2 run 1 done today thanks caffeinated ! So much better without the dog today, I'll have to keep that up.

So you're not on the C25k? Is yours one of the other ones I saw on iTunes?

DH wrote some music a few years ago for a running company for their motivational podcasts and I laughed my ass off at the thought. There was a very precise spec for the bpm at various points in the piece iirc. Now I'm hauling the same ass around the park to something similar!

I was laughed at this weekend though by my friends. They thought it was hilarious I had taken up running. Anyone else face (gentle) ridicule? I can't believe I'm doing it either.

knit and the 22 mins is just awesome. Smile

neepsandtatties · 20/01/2014 14:28

Week 1 run 3 done today, but it didn't exactly go to plan cause I nudged the ipod then couldn't work out how to rewind, and ended up starting the 5 min walk music again, and not being able to fastforward.... Anyway, I fudged it, and actually did a 90 sec run at the end as I got the walk and run music mixed up!

Am nervous about W2 runs though...

Ladyflip · 20/01/2014 14:46

Missbetsey I agree the dog needs to stay behind. Hopefully I will find enough energy to walk him later. I'm quite looking forward to w1r3 tomorrow. Might feel I'm getting better at it when tackle w2 on Thursday.

I really hope that nobody sees me; I tend to go very red and sweaty when I do any exercise, and that's not just me being overweight, I always did it even when I was a very fit teenager playing county level hockey.

TomaszSchafernaker · 20/01/2014 15:27

wow, everyone is doing so well. We all seem to be having an odd rubbish run, but then we keep going and it ends up all being ok. How good are we!!

I keep having a sneak peak at the weeks to come, and like very one else think there's no way I can do that, but knit you are my idol

Just done w2 r2, got back to find out I have no water so can't have a shower Angry hopefully it will be back on soon.

celia I'm hoping to lose weight too. Just lost 1lb last week which I was disappointed with and I'd done so well ignoring the huge pizza and chips I had during that week

ghostofawasp · 20/01/2014 16:51

Hello again! I did W1R2 yesterday and noticed that I managed to get about 150 yards further in the same time than in run 1 - and am not stiff today!
MissBetseyTrotwood - I'm debating taking my dog out with me tomorrow but he's only 10 months old and utterly daft so am worried he'll keep cutting me up!

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 20/01/2014 18:49

w1r3 done today!! Was feeling great until I was overtaken twice by someone running a longer route than me and he didn't stop running once. Grrrrr.

knitknack · 20/01/2014 18:53

We have the dog dilemma too (we're 'dog sitting' for three months). She loves it though!

Please - if you could see me now! Slumped on the sofa! Everyone is doing brilliantly :))

If I do go out tonight, or tomorrow, I think I'll step down to two x 10 mins.... Working FT really gets in the way! It's so much better running in daylight... I loved it yesterday but somehow the pitch black isn't nearly as enticing!

Keep up the good work everyone

Oh, and I've not lost much weight but suddenly my work clothes aren't tight and my tummy doesn't stick out? What's that about? I wonder if low carb helps my tummy stay flatter, and the running is helping my posture?
So stick at it Celia - I will if you do ;D

knitknack · 20/01/2014 21:28

Done it - dragged dh, kids AND dog out for 2 x 10 mins with a 60 sec walk in between. Still can't do it without music so I have one ear plug in! When it gets hard I just pretend I'm dancing....

knitknack · 20/01/2014 21:49

Celia don't feel despondent about weight loss etc... I reckon we're at the beginning of something really good in and in a few months we'll all look back at these posts and marvel at gown fearful we were of the long runs etc.... By then we'll be able to knock out 4-5 really good long runs (I'm hoping half an hour) each week and our bodies will start to reflect that - strong and leaner!

Plus I'm SURE it's going to have a knock on effect on our moods etc. I was talking to our (gorgeous, glamorous and totally overworked) head of key subject today and she said "you come home knackered and hungry and if by the end of the evening you've run a couple if miles you think 'well, I can do ANYTHING can't i?'"

We can - we can do ANYTHING! We've just got to keep doing this! :D

knitknack · 20/01/2014 21:50

Except type legibly on an ipad of course...

dizzyday07 · 21/01/2014 01:37

Instead of running today I went for a swim. (I have entered the 5k Swimathon so need to get some training in). I normally just plow up and down hardly kicking my legs but today I used them the whole time (45mins) and they felt fine afterwards. Maybe there are some benefits after all!

caffeinated · 21/01/2014 09:30

Ugh, I am really struggling to match/improve the form from my first run. I'm feeling a tiny bit discouraged. But will battle on. My program is the runkeeper 5k, week 1 was 1.5kmike run/walk, 25 mins of interval training, 1.5 mile walk. Week 2 is 45 min brisk walk, 1.5 mile (run/walk) which I did today, run 3 is interval training again. On the 1.5 milers I'm walking way more than I'd like, prob half. My legs just feel so heavy.

You are all inspiring me on though.

tinypumpkin · 21/01/2014 14:15

keep battling on caffeinated. Some days I find harder than others. We will get there.

Did week 3 run 2 (doing couch210K now). Up this morning and spent time trying not to slip over whilst running in front of school children. Didn't want to amuse them further!

Ladyflip · 21/01/2014 14:20

Caffeinated, that sounds really hard work, so if you are doing that you must be doing really well! Managed w1r3 today, and have downloaded week 2 on to the iPod in anticipation of Thursdays run. Only trouble this morning was that it was very icy, and I nearly went flying. Oh, ando neo f my clients saw me Blush but I'm hoping he didn't associate the pink and sweaty creature lumbering past with the professional that they usually see!

ghostofawasp · 21/01/2014 15:21

Ladyflip - I've just finished w1r3 too! Really quite enjoying it, almost to the point of actually wanting to run more than every other day. Would it be bad to do 2 days in a row?

Took the dog today - not sure I'd do that again. He kept wanting to stop and wee on things every 2 minutes - and the rest. Think I'll have to rule out multitasking for the time being. Sad

CeliaLytton · 21/01/2014 21:40

I gave blood this evening so couldn't go for a run but I must have lost some weight in that pint, right? And friends coming for dinner tomorrow at 6, just as DH gets in the door so no time without DC to go out. I hope that 3 days off in a row doesn't ruin me! Please come here on Thursday evening to kick me into gear Grin

everylittlestep · 22/01/2014 09:27

Well - I've made the first step. I've downloaded c25k app, got my trainers ready and about to go on my first 'run' ever at 11am today! I've been overweight for about 3 years and won't be by the end 2014. I'm not weighing myself (I think I'm about 11 stone, age 40, size 14-16, just under 5 ft Blush) instead I'll use my clothes and mirror to measure my success. I've been eating healthier so far this January and feel I need to up my effort to be fit once and for all. Wish me luck?...

knitknack · 22/01/2014 09:45

Good luck everylittlestep!! Let us know how you get on :)

hotdog74 · 22/01/2014 10:28

Good luck everylittlestep - my aim is to do my first parkrun 5k before my fortieth in March so we are a similar age. Keep going :-)

Week 3 run 1 for me today - I can't believe it but it appears that i can do a very slow jog for 3 minutes non stop - would never have believed it if you saw that state I was in after 60 seconds in week 1!

Keep going ladies - we can do it!

Ladyflip · 22/01/2014 10:50

Oh yes, I'm staring down the barrel of the big 40 in November; think that's what has finally motivated me to do something about my very lardy arse.

Good luck everylittlestep; we're all behind you.
