For me, just starting? Anyone else?

Celia, I've been told that 'running fitness' is unique and has no bearing on any other types of excercise.

That's my story for now.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 03/01/2014 16:21

I started the other thread but lots on there seem to be restarting. I've never done it before and am unfit so may I join you?
I'm waiting for my children to go back and my trainers and bra to arrive.
Struggling to get the nhs thing to work. May resort to something else

tinypumpkin · 03/01/2014 20:51

Still here and just back from run two. Really struggled tonight. I need to get another asthma inhaler. I don't know where mine is and it was an issue tonight. Ran with my sis who was slowing for me a bit I know. Still did it but feel knackered! I need to keep it up so thanks for the support here.

How is everyone else doing?

CeliaLytton · 03/01/2014 21:05

Welcome Jayne! When is your kit arriving?

Tiny, could you just walk it until you get another inhaler? Hope you are feeling better now.

Funchum I am due a run tomorrow and am already disheartened because I am not thin! Determined to go anyway...

Is an alcohol-fuelled run a total no-no?

It takes the edge off of the struggle and kind of displaces it.

CeliaLytton · 03/01/2014 22:50

I usually run in the morning/lunchtime, I think drinking with breakfast would be the beginning of the end Grin

OP posts:
tinypumpkin · 03/01/2014 23:06

How odd, I did post but now I can't see it.

I am okay Celia but thanks for asking. Have located an inhaler (who knew I still had one!) and will be just fine. More unfit than anything else. I totally get the wanting instant results thing and feeling disheartened when that does not happen.

I have been running in the eves but will have to go out in the morning next week I think as DH is on a late shift and call. Feel a bit conspicuous!

Hope your run goes well tomorrow Celia and everyone else that us going.

tinypumpkin · 03/01/2014 23:07

Is going. There is no hope for me if I can't even post properly!:)

StarlightMcKingsThree · 03/01/2014 23:12

Okay, didn't go out on account of forgetting until last minute that I had pantomime tickets. Now, 3 glasses of wine later I am well up for it but very likely to get run over.

Tomorrow it will have to be.

soontobeslendergirl · 03/01/2014 23:13

Starting back again tomorrow morning. Started it this time last year and went all through the snow, wind and rain.....and then stopped in the Summer!! With lots of repeats we (couple of friends and myself) got up to week 5ish I think. Together with the diet, I lost nearly 3 stone. I've out half a stone back on over the Christmas hols so it will be back to the grind again! Good luck all who are starting.

soontobeslendergirl · 03/01/2014 23:27

Knitknack I work too and I find it quite easy to fit in as it's only 30 minutes. Luckily I have other people to do it with so feel okay about going out at night so we usually do two nights a week at 6.30/7ish and one morning at the weekend.

StarlightMcKingsThree · 03/01/2014 23:56

Well part of my motivation of starting now is that it is dark in the evenings so no one can see me. If I get on with it I might look a lot better doing it by the time it is light.

I kind if see myself racing against the seasons iyswim.

soontobeslendergirl · 04/01/2014 00:06

Starlight - that was my thoughts too - I was 15 and a half stone when I started (i'm 5' 10") and got down to 12 stone 8, The battery has gone in my scales (little job for tomorrow) but I think I am about 13 again judging from the tightness of my trousers. If I could lose another stone and a half to 2 stone I would be happy - I think that is achievable by the Summer.

soontobeslendergirl · 04/01/2014 00:08

It just got too hot and we all got too busy in the summer and when we all came back from our respective holidays we just never got started up again. Actually quite excited even though it has been raining for weeks, everywhere is flooded and it's blowing a hoolie out there - it's meant to be a bit better tomorrow though - fingers crossed.

soontobeslendergirl · 04/01/2014 12:44

Week 1 Run 1 done - wasn't too bad. I think run 2 is planned for Monday night.

knitknack · 04/01/2014 12:44

Thanks soon to be slender - that sounds totally doable! I think because it's been the holidays and it's been a sure fire way of getting the kids outside for some exercise we've been doing it every day (don't worry, we won't once we're running properly) so in my mind I've been imagining that I have to do it every day once term starts and as you've just pointed out, I don't - hurray!

We did the first run of 'week 3' today (although really we should only be at the beginning of week 2) so I think we'll stop here for a while - it was quite tough!! (although husband perferred it apparently, git).

I visited Bury St Edmunds yesterday to see a friend. We went into the H&M and they have running/exercise clothes in there! I've never seen exercise clothes in an H&M before... was very tempted! Have told myself I need to wear out my cheap (primark) running leggings before I'm allowed to buy pretty new ones.

My running top, by the way, is from Asda and is pretty brilliant - it's got long arms and thumb holes! Was only a tenner, for anyone else that's on a budget. I got some new trainers in the Jan sales.

I'm very lucky that I have a 'proper' runners jacket/waterproof thing that someone gave me (bought it and it was too small for them) YEARS ago and for some reason I hung on to it - it's finally getting some use!

Thewoman - you don't even really need the app - the timings are on the NHS webside. You could just get a stop watch and time yourself, as a last resort.

Hope everyone else is enjoying (!) themselves!

CeliaLytton · 04/01/2014 13:55

Jayne I use the get running app, I like it because it interrupts my music to tell me what to do

OP posts:
Mitchy1nge · 04/01/2014 14:09

Shock there's an H&M in Bury St Eds?

sweetassugarhardasnails · 04/01/2014 16:24

Going out for week1 run2 in a bit, was meant to run last night but put it off (big mistake) I really dont want to run, its cold, wet, windy and dark.

StarlightMcKingsThree · 04/01/2014 16:28

Sweet, I'll be going out for WK1 R2 tonight too, - around 10pm if it isn't raining.

I can't bear the faff of getting changed etc. though so like R1 I'll be doing it in my jeans with my feeding bra on hmm and plimsolls.

If I had to get changed I'd give up once my clothes were off and go to bed instead.

I never could wear trainers so I have to figure out something better than plimsolls though, if I keep up with this.

travellingwilbury · 04/01/2014 16:32

I am going to start this on sunday (again Blush

I got to wk 6 in the summer but then got distracted and I have nt gone back to it .

Tues is the day .

Good luck .

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 04/01/2014 17:35

Thanks, will try the free get running app
I have a couple of parcels to open. Think bra and trainers Grin
I'm starting on 13th as will have had my birthday and be over my excesses

sweetassugarhardasnails · 04/01/2014 17:50

Done it!!! Took DD out with me on her bike. And I actually almost enjoyed it

Also on another positive note, w1 r2 felt much easier than my first run.

StarlightMcKingsThree · 04/01/2014 20:20

Ooh okay then sweet, I'll try to look forward to it rather than dread it. Running as soon as my dinner has gone down a bit.

funchum8am · 04/01/2014 20:39

starlight I like your style - it's not actually illegal to run while drunk is it? So it must be fine.

Celia how do you get the Get Running app to completely turn off your music when the app needs to talk to you? I tried it and have it set up that way but it still only quietens the audiobook I'm listening to, because apparently it is not the "active app". Any idea how to make it the active app?? No worries if not though, it was great in all other respects!

W1R2 tomorrow (for the fourth time in the past year!) I will stick with it this time with the support on here hopefully!
