For me, just starting? Anyone else?

Can I join too? I'm spectacularly unfit, prone to depression and scarily close to being 40. I've decided to do something about it and I've done week 1 of the NHS podcasts with surprising success.

Just off to do W2 R2 Grin

everylittlestep · 22/01/2014 12:39

Drum roll.... w1r1 complete! I absolutely loved it, despite looking hideous Grin I've planned a route where not too many people will see me, until I'm no longer a shocking sight for children.

Thank you all for your support Thanks - seems the 40 milestone has a lot to be thankful for, though I wish like you ladies, I'd achieved it when I hit 40 in September. Never mind, by 41 I'm determined to get my size 10 jeans back passed my thighs!

Rather than 3 times per week, I'm going to do this every other day. Has anyone else tried this?

Knitknack - my DH & DD (on her bike) want to join me on my weekend session, so it's going to be a family thing for us too

everylittlestep · 22/01/2014 12:44

Ps well done getting to W2 KnappShappeyShipwright - I'm using the nhs podcast too and appreciated the encouragement it gave Smile

knitknack · 22/01/2014 13:34

Everylittlestep you did it you star!!

You'll love doing it as a family - what's amazed me about all this (apart from actually lasting longer than one day, and running longer than 30 secs) is how much the kids enjoy it. My 13 year old has gone from refusing all offers to leave the house to standing at the front door going 'come on mum, I just need to RUN!' Trust me, you have to know him to know how shocking that is!!!

I'm 41 btw, will be 42 this autumn - if this continues I'll feel better than I did at 31!

:)

MissBetseyTrotwood · 22/01/2014 14:52

I feel dreadful after my w2r2 today! Really odd, it was exactly the same run as the last one but I feel knackered, really physically tired. Why is it this happens I wonder?

TomaszSchafernaker · 22/01/2014 15:01

missBetsy It happens like that sometimes, I'm not sure why. You may well be surprised when you do w2 r3 that you find it loads easier (that's what I'm hoping anyway as I'm doing that run tonight!) Just keep going.

Hello to all the new starters

Hello to all the other dolphin seekers......

everylittlestep · 22/01/2014 16:49

Aw shucks - thanks knitknacks! Roll on 41 feeling 10 years younger ha ha! Almost 7 year old DD loves going out on her bike already, so this is the kick up the bum we need to take her out on it more.

Hello back at you Tomasz

MissBetseyTrotwood · 22/01/2014 17:39

Good luck with that one Tomasz! Come back and tell us how it goes.

Unfortch I have been stuffing my face for the last two days due to school placement setbacks with ds2. Need those dolphins to kick in!!!

MissBetseyTrotwood · 22/01/2014 17:40

And yay for the dcs on their bikes! Will have to try that!

knitknack · 22/01/2014 18:13

Just me and dophin-boy (+ dog) tonight.... 22 mins AND we sprint raced each other across a field that we have to cross to get home! Wowza

soontobeslendergirl · 22/01/2014 18:16

Wk3 run 1 done yesterday in torrential icy rain - I'm officially mental!

48 for me this year so all you 40 people are just youngsters :o

Stretch and tone class tonight and W2R2 probably Thursday or Friday and R3 on Sunday.

When I did it last year I remember being far more energised whereas this year I'm feeling quite tired - maybe I'm coming down with something or I just liked it better when the weather was worse :)

TomaszSchafernaker · 22/01/2014 21:43

Wow knitknack totally impressed.

Yes totally YAY!! to all the DC helping us out. Did w2r3 tonight with DH, 2 of my DC, niece, BF and her daughter - a bit of a gang really. We all totally enjoyed it and can't wait for next run.

caffeinated · 22/01/2014 21:54

Ooh lots of new people. Welcome all.

Everyone is doing so good.i have week 2 run 3 tomorrow which is 60 secs FAST running (ha!) then 90 secs recovery walk x8. Which is totally achievable but I don't think my fast will be very fast. The forecast is very rainy for tomorrow. Bring it on.

CeliaLytton · 22/01/2014 22:17

Have had an evening of good wine and good company but am feeling totally guilty about having not run since the weekend. Tomorrow evening about 7 I need you all to shout at me and get me out of the house! Well done newcomers, an excellent start. And knit, you are now my guru so better keep it up!

I am only (!) in my 30s but sounds like a lot of you are fitter than me in your 40s! I so want to be fit, toned and slim

Kicking up the rear end encouraging post booked for 6.30pm tomorrow celia although I'm sure you won't need it Smile

You and knit are our leaders....

caffeinated · 23/01/2014 09:23

Ugh I quit half way through week 2 run 3. It was 3 degrees and windy. My inner ear is killing from the wind. Yuck. I think the run keeper 5k is too demanding. I'm gonna start from scratch on Monday on one of the programs you guys are on. This one just makes me feel like I'm not getting better and week 3 includes a 2 mike run. I can't even run for 5 mins yet.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 23/01/2014 11:54

I've found the NHS one really encouraging. And it seems pretty gradual but I've never looked at any of the others so I can't really compare.

I had a bad one yesterday - would you try that one again when there's no icy wind to see if it goes better?

neepsandtatties · 23/01/2014 13:24

Did W2R1 today and I actually found it easier than the W1 runs? Were there fewer of them?

I have to say though, I'm not sure anyone observing me would call it a 'brisk' recovery walk...

knitknack · 23/01/2014 18:03

There was a day, the Saturday before last I think, where I just couldn't get out and I had so much work to do that I wasn't free until about 9pm and DH was down in London working so I just did the NHS programme in front of the TV!! I jogged and walked on the spot (like a loon). I think it was the 5/3 min sessions. I don't know if it helped or not but it made me feel better about missing a session... I think I'd try skipping or something now if I couldn't get out (not with an actual rope, my cottage isn't big enough, but pretending to use one (if that makes any sense at all!)).

No run for me tonight - had a revision session and loads of marking to do tonight but will try tomorrow night. If not, I'm really looking forward to the weekend and being able to do it in the daylight again!

Good luck everyone - keep going. Don't worry if you find it hard - some days are like that... just keep going the next day.

Celia we're rooting for you!!! Come back on here and let us know how you get on PLEASESSSSEEEEE (we'll be worrying else)

:)

soontobeslendergirl · 23/01/2014 20:19

I always found running at night easier. Always struggled more on the weekends when we went out in the morning or at least in daylight.

tinypumpkin · 23/01/2014 21:10

How did you get on Ceila?

Out this morning for week 3 R3 on C210K. Managed it but didn't realise the time had moved to 40 mins!

Keep going, we can do it. This support here is really helping me so thank you.

Am marking here too Knitknack. You are in good company (if I am good company!)

knitknack · 23/01/2014 21:14

tinypumpkin you ARE good company! :D

CeliaLytton · 23/01/2014 21:57

W4r3 done, thanks for the encouragement! Am going to do both sat and sun again as I find it so hard to run at night so by the end of the weekend should be doing 8 mins running at a time, I have come such a long way from week 1! Feeling much more positive this evening, thanks all Grin

Caffeinated the NHS c25k one is much more gradual and focuses on interval training rather than setting a distance target, I find it easier to stay motivated when I am achieving the target each time, I would have quit your one ages ago so well done, but def try the easier one!

Tiny, you will be doing your 10k run with ease!

W2R2 for me tonight. It felt pretty good although my right knee has been niggling and was a bit sore so there was a bit of a hobble with my shuffling run! I managed to last through all the run phases and even felt the walks were brisk as instructed.

DD was on her bike but she got cold after about 10 mins as she wasnt going that fast waiting for me. then she stopped and thinking she was just fiddling with her ipod i kept going past her for about 80m but she caught up with me as I was coming back in tears thinking I was leaving her. it was a dead straight lit pavement and she could see me the whole time but she got herself into a right pickle!

I dont know whether I should brave going out on my own during the day so I can concentrate without the drama or just ban the bike as she is meant to be increasing her fitness running too.

TomaszSchafernaker · 24/01/2014 08:25

Well, I was supposed to start w3r2 today, but managed to write off the car last night Angry. Feeling a bit achy, but annoyed as I was so looking forward to doing my run!

I'll have to wait for a hire car now to get out.

Well done everyone else for their runs, and glad those who had bad runs still kept going!
