Missbetsey week 2 doesn't change to much for me so I'm not too worried. Week 3 is a big jump for me.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 17/01/2014 11:56

Ah that's good. I could do week 1 fine and it was enjoyable! If you find a week really hard, do you repeat it until you can do it ok?

Sunshineonsea · 17/01/2014 12:25

Hello can I join
I have just got back from my first run, ran around the streets as fields a bit boggy at the moment
I found it really hard and could only manage 4 full 60 sec runs and brisk walked the rest
I didn't realise how unfit I was, I do the shred now and again but I think I will have to really be strict and do more exercise
Please tell me it gets easier!

soontobeslendergirl · 17/01/2014 12:39

Sunshine welcome, yes it definitely gets easier :o

TomaszSchafernaker · 17/01/2014 15:42

Hello - sorry for disappearing for a while - been a tough week but still managed the runs and...

I got the dolphins!! Woop Woop!! It was w1 r3 went with DH, DD, my friend and one of DD's friends. What was so lovely was that DD's friend who has been through her parent's horrible spit up last year also got the dolphins and was absolutely buzzing afterwards. It was lovely to see the massive smile on her face. Her mum came to collect her and said she didn't shut up about it all the way home! It made my day Grin

I've also been struggling with the where and when to run, given the horrendous conditions outside. We live in a rural area which is very hilly. plus with no street lights, it makes the only place to run the main roads, and I have far too many wobbly bits to run on the road Blush

I decided to go down to a proper running track and it's made a massive difference. It's half an hours drive and costs me £3.20 but if it keeps me on track I think it's worth it. I wouldn't think twice about spending £5 on a bottle of wine, so why wouldn't I spend £3.20 on getting myself fit.

It's great to read all your posts it really inspires me to keep going!

neepsandtatties · 17/01/2014 16:52

Hi, can I join in?

Doing week1 run2 tomorrow. Week 1 run 1 was okay, but a bit boring (I just have the NHS podcast - and it took me long enough to download that on to my ancient ipod that I'm not going to try anything else!). I do it in the orchards nearby - running rows of trees. I take my dog (but he just runs around offlead doing his own thing for the 25 odd mins it takes - I have no idea where he is most the time!)

Quite looking forward to tomorrow's run!

caffeinated · 17/01/2014 17:46

Missbetsey I guess it's up to the individual, I think if I struggle I will repeat because otherwise I'll get discouraged by another tougher week. I'm pretty unfit.

Sunshine everyone says it gets easier. I hope so!

Tomasz hooray for the dolphins!

Welcome neeps, good luck tomorrow! I'm only one run ahead of you.

soontobeslendergirl · 17/01/2014 18:28

W2 R3 done tonight - well done everybody and good luck for the weekend runs!

neepsandtatties · 18/01/2014 08:36

W1 R2 just done. No easier, no harder, than W1 R1. Is that normal?

And no dolphins, but feeling a bit muggy headed (pleasantly) as I sit here.

I noticed on the NHS pod-cast how she only announces first run, second run and then seventh run, final run. So you don't get discouraged in the interminable middle runs!

CeliaLytton · 18/01/2014 13:16

Neeps I found week 1 a bit boring, even though I found it difficult, but having music playing really helped.

Thomasz I might look into a running track, I have the same problem of unlit rural area with uneven tracks and pavements making running in the evening really hard, yet another reason for spring to hurry up!

Did w3r3 Thursday so off for w4r1 later today, I really struggled with the 3min runs last week so am not feeling overly positive about running for 3mins then 5mins then repeating. I will probably do it but I'm not happy about it, if that makes any sense!

On the plus side, I have been low carbing too and have started to lose weight so this might just be the motivation I need to keep running. Although again, steamed veg and fish have much more appeal in the summer, in the winter I want bolognaise WITH THE SPAGHETTI and jacket potatoes and alcohol. But I figure that I am putting so much effort into doing the running which I hate so I might as well not eat too much to counteract it.

Glad you lot are more positive Blush keep up the good work and who knows, the dolphins might arrive after my run later...

How'd it go Celia? Can't say I get dolphins during. After the first 90 seconds I just think whhhyyyy amm I doing this?? But when I've completed it and am still alive I think wow I did that. I am amazing. And feel a bit smug until I remember I have to do it all over again 2 days later.

Ladyflip · 18/01/2014 17:35

I've done w1r2 today without the dog. Gosh, it was much easier. I think the dog wanted to go faster and I had to keep pulling him back or run faster to keep up with him, whereas today I could go at my own pace.

I too am rural and hate the thought of anyone seeing me, but fields are too water logged to run there. No lighting too, but I do have a vvv attractive (!!) hi viz waistcoat thing that cost 3 quid that I use for dog walking. Also, my leggings have reflective stripes ( matalans best I'm afraid). So I look really conspicuous but hopefully no one will run me over.

CeliaLytton · 18/01/2014 19:14

So that was the first run I've done that I felt was manageable! Maybe that's as good as dolphins are going to get for me, no rush of happiness but definitely felt more able to do it and my running must be faster than my walking because I got a lot further today. Feeling pleased with myself and am going to do w4r2 tomorrow so that I don't have to go out too much at night during the week. Must get a hi viz jacket...

About to open the wine, running and steamed veg are all very well but can't do everything virtuous at once, baby steps Grin

Yay lady and Celia, Celia did you manage to run for 5 mins without stopping.

CeliaLytton · 18/01/2014 20:09

Yep, did 3mins running, 90secs walking, 5 mins running 90secs walking and repeat. So considering a few weeks ago I found running for 1 minute a challenge, I must be improving! Pleased with myself but extremely dubious about running for 20 mins without stopping in a couple of weeks...

hotdog74 · 18/01/2014 20:33

Hi all, I did week 2 run 2 this morning. Felt really awful and slow but I kept going until "Laura" told me to stop so just hoping that I feel a bit better on Monday for run 3!

Hope all you runners manage to have a good weekend :-)

caffeinated · 18/01/2014 21:27

Ooh celia that's totally inspiring!! Well done.

Hotdog my last run felt awful too. I think I started off too fast.

knitknack · 18/01/2014 21:53

I've been eating low carb too these last 3 weeks - had my first 'courgette spaghet' tonight (with meatballs, yum).

We did week 5 run two today - 8 mins x 2 with walking in between but then I went mad and carried on for another 10 mins, splashing through muddy puddles and feeling like superwoman!

Got all excited and suggested we should try to do a 5k soon, at which point dh pointed out that I run at the speed of a snail and proceeded to go on google maps to show me what 5k looks like!! Haha, might keep to keep training for a wee while yet....

Never mind - I'm getting dolphins not just from the running but from the fact that I'm able to go for longer every time and have previously given up after one day, and hated it.

Week 3 runs were horrible, btw, my kegs really hurt!

It's amazing now how much they DONT hurt - now it's my stamina that's the issue.

Supposed to be tackling 20 mins tomorrow but both dh and I are sniffling and sneezing now, so we'll see...

Well done everyone, I love reading your updates and I LOVE that everyone is looking for dolphins!! :D

funchum8am · 19/01/2014 11:05

Wow everyone is doing so well, it's really inspiring! I have been keeping up, just did w3r1. The first 3 min run coincided with a slight incline which wasn't easy but I did it! Happy dolphin hunting everyone Grin

knitknack · 19/01/2014 13:18

We did it! 22 minutes!!!! I'm off to collapse :D

hotdog74 · 19/01/2014 16:57

22 minutes knitknack! I'm still only on week 2 but I aspire to 22 minutes........well done :-)

MissBetseyTrotwood · 19/01/2014 17:04

So glad to be a few weeks behind you lot! Esp the 5 minutes of running where 1 was a struggle, Celia . Starting Week 2 tomorrow morning (or this evening, depending on energy levels)! and can't wait. Defo not taking dog this time though. He always seems to need to stop for a poo just as the run begins! And wants to run when I'm supposed to be walking etc. Cantankerous old man he is.

FireMaker · 19/01/2014 20:17

I'm up to week two run two. No dolphins here though.

tinypumpkin · 19/01/2014 21:17

Sorry for being rubbish at popping in here. Really glad to hear that all is going well for everyone, we are doing fab.

I may have done a stupid thing and registered for the 10K in May Shock Will be running for NICU in memory of DD1 so that will keep me going.

Did week 3 run 1 of the 10K programme tonight as figured I should switch. Did okay. We well do it.......

CeliaLytton · 19/01/2014 22:35

Knit that's amazing! Seems like a world away still...

W4r2 done today, heave legs but surprisingly manageable, but looking ahead at week 5, the first run of 5 mins x 3 seems like a step backwards. I am so impatient!

Tiny it's great that you have signed up for a run, will keep you motivated if you know you are doing it for a good cause.

Feeling a bit low as was hoping to have lost quite a bit of weight 4 weeks in, I know slow and steady wins the race but for the first time, maybe forever, I am making a big effort and it has bought home to me how totally fed up I am with being fat. I hope I start to notice some rewarding effects soon, more than the few pounds I have lost so far...

Keep up the good work and look to knit for inspiration, a few weeks ago she was just starting out and now running over 20 mins without stopping!
