Another month, another chance to start/restart/continue the 30 Day Shred, or similar - ripped in 30, NMTZ, whatever your preferred form of torture exercise with Jillian you're welcome here for support, advice and motivation!

Welcome frogs!

Just checking in to say that L2D9 is done. For the first time I managed to do the full plank jacks which was a great feeling.

I like Jillian, which is odd given that she constantly tells me that she wants me to feel like I'm going to die.

WillColbert · 11/10/2013 09:49

Downstairs - I shred every week day and take the weekends off. At the moment I'm using 1kg weights.

wasabipeanut · 11/10/2013 14:41

Welcome Frog :) hope you're getting on ok with it all.

Downstairs I shred Mon-Fri then weekends off. Using 1Kg weights at the mo but some exercises feel a bit too easy (chest flies in particular) so might trade up.

Well I'm starting L2 on Monday. Am watching it now. Squat thrusts and those crunches bringing legs up from ground. Think I'll be following Anita for this one.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/10/2013 14:49

I also do the weekdays, weekends off (but usually do something active on at least one of those days).

I did the shred with 5lb weights for most of it and 3kgs for chest flies/bicep curls, and a 10lb for the thing in L3 with one weight, but the 5lbs were a bit much for some of the moves so I've got some 1.5kgs now as well. I'm using various of these for the Ri30 . I think the guideline should be, don't use anything so heavy you can't do the reps with good form.

Just popping in to wave, and to excuse myself for a while - kidney infection (possibly) so no exercise till the doc fixes it.

Back in November hopefully... If someone reminds me!

ErrolTheDragon · 11/10/2013 16:33

Doris - oh, poor you, hope it gets better soon.

Aww thanks for the welcome guys Thanks

It is going ok, slightly easier today, I muted Jillian and put my own music on and it seemed to go faster.
I've hurt my back somehow - I can't put my finger on what it is - possibly bruised but did hurt a bit with the jumping today. I will see how I feel tomorrow, hopefully it will be fine, may also start adding a bit more of warm up too.

Stay strong and focussed ladies

deeplybaffled · 11/10/2013 20:06

I've had a disastrous shred week - managed it Monday, and that has been it :( away tomorrow so decided to write the week off and start again on Sunday, so hopefully means I will finish level 3 next week.
if I do, will mean that it'll have taken me about 54 days to do a 30 day shred....not that impressive, but it's more exercise than I'd have done over the same period without these threads, so will still class it as a result!

maybe I'll try again before Christmas and see if I can do a bit better.

has anyone else kept a record of how long it has taken them?

My two goes round the shred each took 6 weeks as I do 5 days per week and managed to do that consistently.

I work part-time from home and DD is 14, I've not had anything worse weong than a slight cold and a badly stubbed toe, so I've no legitimate reason not to do it, which isn't the case for everyone. I've huge respect for people managing to do it at all with ft jobs and/or younger kids!

frogs I was with a friend today talking about press-ups (she has just re-discovered exercise at the age of 52 and looks, as Jillian would say, AM-AZ-ING!) She said she couldn't do a single one for weeks on end, it's to do with a woman's body mass being weighted towards the hip area. But now she can manage about 20!

I'm not kidding she's really inspired me, she's down from a size 12/14 to an extremely toned 8/10, leaner & fitter than she was pre-children. And she reckons it's all down to exercise with very few dietary changes.

Must re-double my efforts Grin!

Leviticus · 11/10/2013 22:19

Hi everyone. I've just finished L1D10 and thought It was time to de-lurk.

I've just watched L2 while eating my tea - not sure it was a good idea.

I'm using 1.5kg weights and attempting to do 30 consecutive days to see if it will actually work on me. I can't see any difference yet but I'm hoping to be more toned round the middle at the end.

Is everyone dieting as well? I'm not really although I've cut right down on wine. Will I lose weight anyway? I don't have a lot to lose - maybe half a stone.

NotQuitePerfect · 11/10/2013 22:22

errol thanks, I know I'm lucky with DH. We both struggle to achieve optimum fitness but we are committed to NOT bring like our prematurely decrepit parents (who think that fitness involves a 10 minute stroll to the cake shop then an afternoon in front of the tv eating said cakes!) Grin

Leviticus · 11/10/2013 22:23

Also - I've been doing it barefoot on a floorboard + carpeted floor. Is that ok or should I put trainers on? My knees and ankles are feeling a bit achey today.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/10/2013 23:51

Leviticus - I had to do it barefoot (on carpet) for a while when I had my horrible toenail episode - it was OK doing L1 but I really needed the trainers for stability in L2, apart from impact considerations. Don't think the plank-based things would be good barefoot either.

wasabipeanut · 12/10/2013 10:35

Ah the joy of a day off. Leviticus I would be inclined to wear trainers and have done so with L1 because there is a fair bit of jumping with the jacks, jump rope etc. and my knees would be buggered if I did anything high impact without trainers!

You're at exactly the same stage as me. I am quite scared about L2.

frogslegs35 · 12/10/2013 12:41

NotQuite That sounds promising, well done to your friend.

Leviticus Did you measure yourself before you started? From what I've read about shred - you may not drop pounds but should see some difference in inches lost.
Like you I don't have that much weight to lose (13lbs for me, I'm within healthy BMI=23.4) I just want to revisit the 150lbs or under mark (it's been a veryyy long time) and more importantly tone up ALL wobbly parts. Anyway - the point I am trying to make is the less you have to lose - the slower it can be. I'm trying to make sure I've got a deficit in the calories I'm taking in/burning but I'm not being too strict on where those calories are coming from Grin
I did attempt low carbing - but due to an existing medical condition that flared up quite badly as a direct result of the diet being pretty high fat I had to stop it.

It's L1D6 for me, I haven't done it yet, got up late with a fecking sore neck Angry but on the plus side - my back feels better :)
I've had brekkie and took a few painkillers, so I'm waiting to see if it feels better - if it does I'm still going to shred but maybe have to adapt a few moves to not strain it.

Wooshhh!! I've waffled a fair bit today, haven't I ? Grin

Have a good day all.

frogslegs35 · 12/10/2013 16:55

Confused Note to self - NEVER leave shredding until this late hour, much prefer as early as possible.
On the plus side back ok and neck ok, although I did have to go a little more gentle on the jumping stuff - but I managed :)
I am She-Ra Wink for those that remember her

Leviticus · 12/10/2013 20:19

Hi Frogs. I didn't think to measure myself but I'll keep an eye on how my clothes fit. I finish mat leave and go back to work next months and getting back into my work clothes is a motivator.

L2D1 done this morning (with DH and in trainers). The sweat was literally running down my face - nice!

Has anyone tried the yoga Jillian DVD? I'm tempted after this one.

ZingDollyChops · 12/10/2013 21:16

my Enell bra from Ebay arrived.

it's good.

I had 2 lots of nurofen today and will be taking more soon.

I am pissed off with this fucking headache/dizziness/nausea. It's ridiculous.

good going you all!
I don't know when I can get on, but will do asap.
I miss the excersice. Sad

NotQuitePerfect · 13/10/2013 15:45

Any better today Zing?

L2, day 2 today as didn't do any shred on Wednesday, and need to do 5 sessions per week.

Had a few illicit cigarettes on Friday Blush and I swear I could still feel the effects this morning.

Re-doubling efforts to lead a healthier life this week (after steak & chips, red wine & chocolate tonight, well it IS Sunday!)

ZingDollyChops · 13/10/2013 16:35

NQP

slightly better, but still on Nurofen.

I'm going to have a horrible week next week as it is the 5th "anniversary" that we lost a baby (MC) and I can't help but re-living those awful daysSad

I just want to curl up and hide all week, and it will be extremely difficult to even get through this week, but I know that exercise will help me cope better, so I will try to do some.
I don't know how, but I will make an effort.

send me strength please.

frogslegs35 · 13/10/2013 18:55

Lev - maybe measure now, I've lost 1 cm and I'm only L1D6, on the only place that I've quickly 'out of curiousity' re-checked (my mummy tummy)

Zing big hugs for next week xx and I hope you feel better soon.

I had hoped to complete D7 today but OH got wine last night and I just couldn't pull myself around today, maybe a break will do me good though and relax my still aching muscles excuses, excuses! naughty frog!
Back on it tomorrow. I'm thinking of doing something extra - maybe dust off the kettlebell and do some workouts or I've been looking at the brazillian butt lift DVD :) and fancy adding in a few of the bum exercises from it. Will decide tomorrow.

Hope everyone had a good weekend x

NotQuitePerfect · 14/10/2013 08:32

So sorry to hear that zing Sad

Go with your instincts this week, there is no right or wrong way to mourn or reflect. Sending hugs.
