Quick question for you experienced shredders:
I'm on day 2 level 1 and am in agony- legs are the worst, aching so bad!

When does this get better?! Is there a point when you start the routine without the previous days ache?

lifesgreatquestions · 26/08/2013 09:58

Hi Bunz, I have done it daily and have found that I ached for the first 4 or 5 days in level one, although once I started the exercises I usually felt better in the moment, and from day 6 I was fine. A lot of people have said similar. Level 2 is harder on the upper arms I found and I began to ache again then for a few days. I find with level 3 now I can do most things without ache, so it should pass. Just be careful it's muscle ache and not damage that needs resting. A lot of us have had to ease up on some exercises due to an injury, or take a break from it altogether.

Bunznroses · 26/08/2013 10:18

I shall forge ahead me hope it will fade soon- am attracting strange looks with my waddling walk!

Bumpotato · 26/08/2013 10:35

Did L1D8 today.

I'm going to look at my diet this week. I'm thinking of cutting refined sugar and random crap and see how I do. I might even try JM's power yoga tonight.

GrimmaTheNome · 26/08/2013 11:30

reboot L1D4 done.

Bunz, honestly the first 4 days are the worst - push through that and you should find it better thereafter. And it really does make a difference to the tone/strength of your poor legs.

lifesgreatquestions · 26/08/2013 15:20

Bum, I think I need to look at my diet more too, what a shame! I don't think I'm losing anything. For me I'm afraid it would be wheat, bread, pasta, etc., good luck with your refined sugars!

FlyMetotheMoon0 · 26/08/2013 17:23

I did L1d5 today and I can already feel the difference in my stomach muscles, my stomach still looks the same but feels tighter and also my cellulite on my thighs is improving Smile

Bumpotato · 26/08/2013 18:46

I bought proper hand weights today as I've been using cans of soup and water filled pop bottles. Starting with 1.5 kg x 2

deeplybaffled · 26/08/2013 19:35

Well, my plan to start on Saturday was sabotaged with a rotten headache, and the rest of the weekend was celebrating my wedding anniversary with a trip away, so looks like tomorrow is d day....excuses are thinning out and hopefully I will be too!

Murtette · 26/08/2013 21:21

I skipped yesterday too as was in the feeling-knackered-and-needing-to-consume-my-bodyweight-in-chocolate stage of PMS so have probably undone all of the good work I've done in the past two weeks. I was supposed to weigh myself yesterday but haven't dared. I had been feeling more toned but am now just ridiculously bloated. I'm hoping to get back in the zone tonight & had planned on doing L1 & L2 but the DC are still awake!!! They are 3.10 & 15mths but both slept for 45mins in the car from 4.30 and are wide awake. If it wasn't for the fact that I shred in the playroom & can't bear them going in there & getting all the toys out, I'd let them come & shred with me. Sigh.

GrimmaTheNome · 26/08/2013 21:28

No, you won't have undone all the work. Because you'll have built muscle which doesn't disappear overnight, and if you've more muscle, you'll burn fat off quicker.

Bumpotato · 26/08/2013 23:16

I am going to bed tonight with my workout gear on, minus trainers, so that I'm ready to start 30 seconds after 6.45!

Bumpotato · 27/08/2013 09:08

Day 9 L1 done. I do my workout in and old pair of cropped pjs usually...I didn't sleep in Lycra! But I did sleep in my sports bra.

GrimmaTheNome · 27/08/2013 10:01

Goodness, I'm not sure whether that's lazy or super keen! Grin I need a mug or two of tea before I start.

reboot L1D5 done.

I think someone else upthread commented that the first cardio set in L1 with alternating JJs and jumprope is hard - I found that too. Its all jumping on both legs, calf killer. So today I decided to do the JJs interspersed with butt kicks and then for the second cardio set jumprope and punches - that worked much better.

Bumpotato · 27/08/2013 10:12

It's laziness! I took me 5-10 mins yesterday morning to get my shit together and I was rushing about with the kids later on. I don't want to get up any earlier than 6.45.

I was working out within mins of waking and left the house on time today without being rushed.

Bumpotato · 27/08/2013 10:14

My calves kill at the jump rope section too. That's the bit I find toughest. Can't believe I'm 2 days away from L2

RippingYarns · 27/08/2013 10:28

Grimma, it's really beneficial to have a caffeine drink 30 mins before working out it helps muscles to relax and work harder according to Jillian Michaels, so extra tea is doing you good :-D

I can't wait for L3 - 2 days to go!

GrimmaTheNome · 27/08/2013 11:00

Yes, I know - the bloke who used to do the fitness stuff in the Times recommended coffee before workout - but tea is more hydrating. Never mind these 'energy drinks' - nowt like a good cuppa! Grin

deeplybaffled · 27/08/2013 13:32

Just done level 1 day 1. It can't be normal to sweat this much?!

GrimmaTheNome · 27/08/2013 13:41

Sure it is, in this warm weather. Make sure you drink before and after.

deeplybaffled · 27/08/2013 13:45

I'll give it a go, but if you hear later that resevoir levels have dropped, you'll know why! So much for the idea that ladies just "glow" ...

Murtette · 27/08/2013 14:00

I completely failed to Shred last night, let alone do L1 & L2. I think I may have fallen asleep before the DC last night. Nothing should de-rail me this evening.
Bump - I do similar to you (except an hour earlier!) if I know I'm going out in the evening. Sleep in old PJs & socks. Alarm goes off at 5.45. I have a "lie in" until 5.50. Grab sports bra & race downstairs. Turn on DVD &, whilst Jillian is waffling, take off my PJ top, put on my bra & trainers. I find doing the DVD without a t shirt on helps as then I can really see how much more my stomach wobbles than their's!

lifesgreatquestions · 27/08/2013 19:00

Flyme, I'm jealous that your cellulite is improving, are you doing anything in addition to help with that?

Grimma is that true? I don't know anything about fitness really but like the idea that muscle burns fat off more quickly.

Bump, we were exercising at the same time, I started at 6:30, it's nice to think someone else is doing it too!

Murtette, you have the killer start though! I had to move to afternoons for a few days as couldn't hack it, but it is great to get it out of the way first thing.

Deeply, I've never sweat so much, it's unreal isn't it, for a 20 minute session!

Right, this morning was day 27 for me, level 3 day 7, only 3 more days to go to weigh in Confused!

Bumpotato · 28/08/2013 11:02

I do mine watching on you tube on my Internet telly in the lounge. The fecking broadband cut out for a few moments this morning and it took about 5 mins to restart. I might invest in the DVDs.

I start level 2 tomorrow. Is it worth me having a quick look tonight to see what I'm letting myself in for or will I go in blind

GrimmaTheNome · 28/08/2013 11:04

Lifes - muscle burns a few more calories ... its probably more noticeable the other way, when natural muscle loss during aging leads to weight increase if you don't decrease food intake. Its also very much the case that its important to at least maintain muscle mass during weight loss! And of course, the more muscle you have the easier it is to be active! So its all good.
