I mean for everyone including those who have graduated from the C25K. Do we have one?

Im coming up to my one year anniversary of running now. I have started to do Parkruns as they have now started up near me. I have just come back from a 10K too and am currently feeling the post run euphoria. I would like to tell people about it, but DH isn't that interested (just like Im not interested in his hobbies)

So do we have a thread already which I cant find? Or can this be it?

Hi everyone - I'm partway through C25K (on week 5). At what point were you able to run a full 5k in a decent time? There is a parkrun near me, I'd like to plan to try it in the summer, but the slowest time is about 33 min and I don't want to be miles behind everyone else!

melliebobs · 01/05/2013 08:49

Yerr it was a 5k Smile I have another race bank holiday Monday. Then three others between then n end of July. They r all 5ks. Then I'm braving a 10k in August. Furthest I've ever done was 8.5k last week n it took an hr Blush

fromheretomatermity keep checking the results page n previous results cos there might just have been a low turnout that week. At my ParkRun the slowest is about 50 mins. But there's a really good community to it n no one minds. They will be there to cheer you on! I was almost last at ours when I first started (low turnout cos of the snow) and people who've finished join the ones at the back n help them through Smile

melliebobs · 01/05/2013 08:51

As for c25k I was able to run 5k without stopping right at the end. About week 9-10 and it took about 37 minsBlush but the point was I was able to do it without walking

EauRouge · 01/05/2013 08:59

31.30 is a really good time for a 5k. I'm sure you'll be able to improve your time before your 10k. Have you tried tempo runs or hill training or anything like that?

fromheretomaternity, they have tail runners at parkruns so you will never be last! I had finished C25K and I could run for 30 mins no problem, but the first parkrun I did was the first time I had run 5k. I did it in 34 mins and some seconds which was about what I was expecting. Give it a go, they are really friendly and great fun.

Victoria3012 · 01/05/2013 17:48

Fromheretomaternity the parkrun I attended had 156 runners and they were young, old, children, disabled people and mums with buggies, of course we had very serious runners from athletic clubs but if you completed 5k in 40 minutes you still wouldn't have need last. Everyone helps and encourages other runners. I'm sure you'd love parkrun Grin

melliebobs · 01/05/2013 20:48

Yeah eaurouge (love the name btw Wink) Mondays I usually do intervals. I go to where our park run. Only 30 mins but at maximum effort. I do hill sprints up THE hill (it's kind of in 2 stages but it's bloody steep) and then I do sprints set more by distance. Wed/Thursday I try and do a longer run then Saturday I do park run which I try to push myself at.

Inbetween all that is swimming and walking

EauRouge · 01/05/2013 20:57

My local parkrun has a hill like that, right in the last half a k- it's a total bastard!

Hedgepig · 02/05/2013 17:21

That's cruel EauGrin. My park run the hill is just at the 1km mark

EauRouge · 02/05/2013 17:47

You should come and give it a go sometime!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 02/05/2013 20:09

My park run has the same hill three times Grin

Fromheretomaternity my park run has just started a walking group, so we have everything from 15 minute finishes to almost 2 hours.

chaosisawayoflife · 02/05/2013 20:25

2 hours! How can it take 2 hours to walk 5k? I think my 20month dd could walk it faster than that!

melliebobs · 02/05/2013 22:06

neithershredded my ParkRun has the same hill 3 times too. We go the same one?!?!?!?! WinkShock

Did a run on my lunch break today. 8.5k in an hour. silly idea. Should have waited till I'd finished for the day.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 03/05/2013 18:48

Blush I posted without checking the chat on my local parkrun FB page - it was between someone asking if walkers were welcome and one of the regulars. I thought the regular said they had taken 1.45 the previous week, but in fact they said their fastest was 45 mins, but they'd done it in 1.20 stopping and starting the previous week.

Apologies for not checking my facts properly and getting it wrong Blush.

mellie I will PM you Smile.

Nicnocknoo · 03/05/2013 20:21

What a difference it makes to run in the sunshine! Hope this weather lasts for the weekend - I'm doing a 10k on Sunday. This is the first event I'll have done after doing a half marathon in March. I was petrified then and didn't sleep for two nights before it. It's nice to feel a bit more relaxed about this one although trying not to be complacent as my aim this time is to better my time whereas with the half I just wanted to finish!

fromheretomaternity · 03/05/2013 21:35

Thanks, I think my local parkrun is a smaller one, but maybe the good weather will bring out a wider range of runners. Still on W5 and not yet up to doing 5k but hoping to do one in a month or two!

FoundAChopinLizt · 04/05/2013 08:53

Very inspired by you all, I'm only at wk3r3 of C25K! But am aiming for 5k in June and 10k next year.

Any advice on sports watches, with or without GPS?

My dd(14) is a very keen runner, doing hilly road 10ks in 45min. She also does track training, xcountry and fell running. Her birthday is coming up and think she would like one but there is a huge range of features and prices and I've thoroughly confused myself. Would spend up to £100 if I thought it was worth it.

Thanks.

EauRouge · 04/05/2013 10:34

Just got back from Parkrun, I doubt very much that I beat my PB from last week. I started off too fast and then when I got to the hill I had to walk: Twice Shock Grin. Ah well, it was fun and the DDs had fun on the playground while I was running.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 04/05/2013 10:38

Chopin - I have the basic Garmin 110 which does the trick for me.

Eau - I'm just back from park run too. It was a bit chilly and windy for my liking today.

FoundAChopinLizt · 04/05/2013 10:41

Thanks Neither, will look at that one.

melliebobs · 04/05/2013 10:44

No ParkRun for me today :( and it was star wars fancy dress as well. Deffo be their next week cos its our 1st birthday Grin

Pleaseputyourshoeson · 04/05/2013 13:04

Just got back from a run. 8 miles in 1hr 22 mins. My longest run yet. It feels quite daunting to think that's only 2/3rds of the way of the half marathon. Blimey. By the time I was finished I could barely feel my legs and when I did stop my feet were vibrating. I am no born runner! It's been a good week for me though, I did 6 miles yesterday, and two four milers plus a couple of strength training sessions and swimming. You woudln't know it on the scales though bah humbug. Supposed to be a v nice weather bank holiday monday so looking forward to starting the week with a sunny run. I think a rest day for me tomorrow.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 04/05/2013 13:07

Well done Pleaseputyourshoeson. That's a good time. If you can do 10 miles as part of your training you will be fine on the day. Just think of it as a 10 mile run with a parkrun tagged on the end Smile.

kiwibella · 04/05/2013 13:40

EauRouge... did you do the Huntingdon Parkrun today?
I found it difficult!! Hoping that I equal or even slightly improve my previous time.

There is so much amazing running happening on here. Well done Grin

Victoria3012 · 04/05/2013 13:42

I've just broke my mental block and ran 10k without stopping/walking in 1 hour and 12 minutes, I can't tell you how happy I feel at the moment Grin 4 months ago I smoked 20 a day and couldn't run for 90 seconds.

kiwibella · 04/05/2013 13:46

that is amazing progress Victoria!! No wonder you feel elated :)
