I mean for everyone including those who have graduated from the C25K. Do we have one?

Im coming up to my one year anniversary of running now. I have started to do Parkruns as they have now started up near me. I have just come back from a 10K too and am currently feeling the post run euphoria. I would like to tell people about it, but DH isn't that interested (just like Im not interested in his hobbies)

So do we have a thread already which I cant find? Or can this be it?

So how are all the runners on this lovely sunny day?

Hot and sweaty parkrun this morning, waiting for my result but pretty sure it was sub-30 for the second week in a row Smile.

Unsinkable - how is your half training going?

aaahh thanks PPYSO. starting to come round a bit more now and have eaten really well today. i'm not doing any strength training, just got my training plan for next week and can see that is in there....
I think the heat was part of the problem during the 10K, it was very hot and I have never ran in the heat before
fingers crossed i get out tomorrow and will put the plan into action starting on monday. I really need to work on my speed. I'm too fond of just plodding along and not getting out of breath :)

Hi The Unsinkable, maybe you just need more recovery. Are you eating enough food? Getting enough sleep? Protein? Ice bath? Are you just running or putting in some strength training too? I begin my 1/2 training this coming week too.
Sometimes you just have 'heavy legs' for no discernable reason - well I do... and sometimes you just need to listen, go for a short run and then you find the next one goes that bit better. Having said that I haven't had a 'good' proper run this week at all, I've found the warmer weather/humidity an absolute killer for energy levels so that could be the case for you too? I've found it hard to get my breath and hard to find any real oomph.

Just back from parkrun. No PB today, as I had to detour via the sports centre to use the loo during the first lap. But I wasn't last Grin.

This has been the first week of my 20 week marathon training plan, so I ran 3 miles on Tues, biked 5 on Weds, ran 4 on Thurs and 3 today. Need to run 6 miles tomorrow. The humidity hasn't made it particularly enjoyable, but it feels like I'm ticking off the days/weeks one by one.

That does sound like a good group melliebobs. I'm lucky to have found myself a good running club which isn't all about how far or fast everyone can run, it's just about a group of people who all meet up twice a week and go for a run together. Although I have herd that some running clubs are very focused on the next race and how fast everyone can run.

Victoria, have you looked at your local council website because there might be some kind of group for people who want to run, but don't feel they are up to club running level as there has recently been an initiative to get people fit and healthy. I know my local council has something.

I'm taking DS to Parkrun tomorrow as he has been after running with me or ages. I hope he likes it. Then I have a 10K on Sunday.

Do u not have a sweatshop near you? Cos I think they all have 1 run a week now Smile

But I've no idea about what happens after a break. I only got into running in feb and only had 1 week off after a half marathon walk Grin

Melliebobs that sound great, I wish I had a run club near me that wasn't a real athletic club kind of thing, im getting on in years and feel embarrassed. I had today off work and went for my first run in over 2 weeks, it was horrendous, I ran for just over 3km and had to stop a few times Confused I don't understand what went wrong, I was regularly running over 10km a few weeks ago. I do a half marathon in a few months time and this is a real setback. Is this normal after a break? And if so how long does it take to get back to the distances you were running?

Hi gang. Today I joined a running club. Well it's Sweatshop Running Community. They do a free beginners 5k each week. Each mile there is a loop point where those at the front run loops till those at te back catch up. I was suprised I managed to stay in the middle. More suprised when we got back n had done 6.76km!!!!!

Aaaaand there's incentives for going. 4 more runs n I get my first reward. The club running top

And there we have it, I went for a 5k run and hated all of it - heavy lead legs, they felt wooden but not sore and it was a struggle right until the last mile.

Lilleth - great PB!

Pleaseput - that's a brilliant time!

Vic - I have the same problem Grin

Please I so agree with you, I find the first 5 kilometres mentally and physically horrible and then I find my feet. The second half of my runs are always faster than the first half. I think many runners feel the same, it's called the toxic 10 ( or in my case 20) Grin

Report
LillethTheCat · 08/06/2013 13:17

So agree with that Please I always find it takes me a while to get into my stride, but once I do it feels great.

I got another PB at Parkrun this morning. 26:41. I came 9th out of 41 women and there were only 2 that were younger than me who beat me. That tells me that there is loads of room to improve over the next couple of years.

Gorgeous 9 miles in the sunshine today in 1hr 30mins - my PR for both distance and time - I think the massage helped a heap. Half marathon plans don't seem quite SO scary after today. I ran varying split times - last split was 8mins 50 secs and then a couple were in the 9 minute zones but the rest were 10 min to 10min30secs ish per mile. I find it amazing that in the first three miles I always feel disheartened as the first 20 mins of running always seem the worst and then as you get cracking it doesn't seem so bad and you begin to enjoy it as you know you've got to get back to where you started from Grin. Hope you are all having a great w/end.

I remember your name from a C25K thread aaaages ago (I have nc'd since then)

Blue - well done on your 10K time! Do you happen to know the route for the Bedford RFL 10K? I can't find it on the website, but am looking for a 10K route around that general area.

You lot who are doing 'proper' runs put me to shame!

But worked out why my run on Weds was so... turgid... I was due on (apols if TMI). But went swimming about an hour ago and loved it! Did 40 x 25 meters in 40 mins (can't ever alter that! If I do 30 x 25, it's 30 mins, 50 is 50 mins etc. Never done more than 50. Think I would be unable to walk out of the pool! Spaghetti legs Grin).

Going to run again in the morning. Or do a bikram class - depends on the amount of gin consumed this evening!

@ Victoria, I'm doing the Royal Park Half in the first week of October. I think there are still places? I'm just getting back into the training having been off for a few weeks with an injury. You could try that? I've heard run to the beat is a good one too. I've just had a sport massage - OMG made such a difference to the tightness but by eck was it painful! My legs are so tight. It was a bit 'bite your fist' at times!
Two cross training sessions, swim and a short run. Long run tomorrow or sunday. Ifancyashandy that treacle running experience is so horrid, I've had so many of those! But it feels so good when you have a run that isn't like that.

Thanks mellibobs - rather depends on crowd and course.

I haven't run for over a week (since i ran the London 10000) for no reason other than laziness so I've registered for the 'run to the beat' half marathon in September. I need a goal, I need something to get my teeth into. Has anyone done the run to the beat half marathon??

Newbie-ish joining. I run fairly regularly - 5k in about 31 mins along with Pilates, swimming and a dance class. Ran today. My god, it was like wading through treacle AND I got a stitch. It was such hard work. D'you think it's the weather? I also drank a big glass of fizzy water about 20 mins before I went. Probably very stupid...
