I mean for everyone including those who have graduated from the C25K. Do we have one?

Im coming up to my one year anniversary of running now. I have started to do Parkruns as they have now started up near me. I have just come back from a 10K too and am currently feeling the post run euphoria. I would like to tell people about it, but DH isn't that interested (just like Im not interested in his hobbies)

So do we have a thread already which I cant find? Or can this be it?

Hi Lilleth, I would be up for joining a general running thread if there isn't one already! This week I officially kick off my half marathon training so would love to chat with other runners about what / how they are doing.

I've been running for over 2 years now and also just completed a 10k race this morning. It poured down the whole way round and now I feel mocked by the lovely sunshine this afternoon! I was 8 minutes faster than my target time so I was very happy indeed in spite of the rain. How did your run go?

It went ok. It was very cold prior to running, but it was dry. It was mostly on track that had got very muddy over the last few days so it wasn't the best run I could have had. I did better than I was hoping for though so it can't have been too bad. I must be getting faster too as I walked a couple of bits of it. Firstly due to the mud, then once I had walked once it didn't bother me walking again.

Im hoping to do another 5 10Ks this year then a 10 miler in Nov. One day I would like to do the Great North Run so might apply next year and see if I can get in.

There's nothing like the post run euphoria.

Hi lilleth, I've been running for 2 months. I've gone from 90 seconds of running killing me to running 5.5k in about 35/40 minutes. I'm doing the bupa London 10k in May. I had a session with a personal trainer yesterday and I'm aching.. I had to rub tiger balm on my legs so I could bend my legs and sit on the toilet Grin.

I love the run buzz. Recently Ive been feeling really fed up (Im looking for work and not having much luck, DD2 is full of cold so has not been sleeping very well) recently, but today has been brilliant. I need to make the effort to run properly (ie 3/4 times a week). I must admit Ive not been out as much as I should over the winter months. Unfortunately its been snowing heavily here since 5 and its forecast to not stop snowing till Wed.

Hello, a running thread is a great idea. I am just returning to running after injury swiftly followed by pregnancy (DD born in January) and have completed week 2 of C25K. I love the buzz too!

I started running over 10 years ago but only really "got" it after DS was born in 2010 (probably because getting out of the house for a run was suddenly much more appealing!).

I've done one 10k (60:03) and have signed up for another in October. Need to take training really slowly this time as I think I did too much for the last one which led to my calcaneal stress fracture... oops.

I'm taking a week off this week as my knees are a bit achy but will go on to week 3 next week.

I did a half kilamathon today ( 13.1k).

I was a bit nervous about it as although I have been training since the start of the year, my long runs haven't been as long as I felt they should be because of the awful weather we have been having and because I get really bored if I run for more than an hour.

I'm never going to be fast, but was really pleased that I shaved 2 mins off my 2011 time, it was to be fair an easier course. It was great though because this time there were more runners and back in 2011 there was a fair chance that I could have ended up last, whereas this time I was 747th out of 800 ( for me that's good!)

I might sign up for the 10k later in the year - it always feel nice to do that distance when you have run for longer.

Hello can I join, I'm signed up for a 10k in mid April I ran for 6 miles this morning which I thought was 10k but when I got the calculator out I needed to do 0.4 miles more grrrrrr.

I thought 10K was 6.2 miles. Then again that's not what Ive worked out, but what Ive always thought. I just think of it as 6 miles, whats 0.2/0.4 of a mile when you've already ran 6 Grin

Ive just paid for a place on the Sunderland 10K in April Grin I didn't know what to put for expected finishing time. I chose 55:01 - 1:05:00 as I was thinking aiming for less than 1 hr10, but feel I can do it less than 1hr 5 mins if I push myself. So have another race to look forward to now.

I tried running back in 2010 and just couldn't get on with it, then in 2011 I really wanted to give it another go, but with being pregnant with DD2 I decided to wait until 2012. Now I look back and wish I joined a club in 2010 or even earlier, but hey ho.

10k is slightly over 6.2 miles. 6 and a quarter is good enough for doing mental arithmetic for your splits.

Hi there! Just done my first couple of 5k runs after 3 injuries in 2012. Target is 10k in under 60 min. Frustrated by muddiness of off-road running at present - really can't be doing with another injury from slipping over.

Lilleth, 5 10ks and a 10 miler?! Wow, you will be busy!

Victoria, what kind of stuff do you do with your trainer? Sounds painful whatever it is!

Congrats on the half kilomathon theorginial! I'm not fast either and still always feel a little bit elated not to be at the very back of every race.

Good job Hedgepig, sounds like you are pretty much ready for your race already.

I now have every run and cross training session between now and my half marathon in June in my diary - it's a little bit scary looking at it all! Still, one step at a time...

Im scared even thinking about doing the GNR in Sept 2014 Shock I might not even get on it yet either. Still imagine the feeling after. Also someone said on Sunday its the first step that's the hardest once you get going, that's it it's easy.

Runnng home from work twice a week about 5 miles. Few smaller ones in the week 2-3 miles plus same at weekend. Been at it since just before Xmas with a 3 week break for illness in Jan. I have never run in my life, I am in my 40's and can't believe I can do it! 5 miles takes about an hour so I am not super fast though. Thinking of a 10 k in the summer. Keep it up girls :)

I 'only' did 7 miles, and my quads are hurting today!

Lovely thread. I'm recovering from a bad muscle tear so I'm taking it slowly. I did it on 1 Jan and then again in February, as I think I went back to running too quickly. Nth is time I've had weekly physio and am back to running 2 miles. Aiming for 3 miles this weekend and up to 10K by May.

I've only been running a year but love it.

Oooh, a running thread. Excellent, just what I need to motivate me to get back into training. I really haven't got back into it properly since having DD (and that was 14 months ago!) and I want to! I'm toying with the idea of signing up for the Berlin marathon in early autumn...

Does the post-run high get better the further or harder the race?

Im going to go back to my running club tonight after being away for so long. I have been doing a course and it has been clashing, but I have an exam next week which means its over for that course and I will be more likely to be free Tues and Thurs.

My plan is to do Parkruns on Sat mornings, long run Sun Afternoons and running club Tues and Thurs evenings. Im really excited to be getting back into it properly again.

We can all motivate each other to stick at it. My plan is also now to do a race, feel that amazing rush afterwards and book my next one there and then. If I hadn't have gone on Sunday I dont know if I would have been keen to go tonight.

Ooh - a general running thread is a good idea! I've been running for a few years now but have just had to pull out of doing my first half marathon,for the second time Sad ,due to a minor injury. Just managed a short run today though, so onwards and upwards! Can't decide whether half marathons are just not for me, and to stick to 5 and 10k or to grit my teeth and try one more time...
Anyway, I love my running usually, and love doing Parkrun.

I'd like to join this thread. I've taken up running in the last six months or so. I'm running my first 10k on saturday. Kind of dreading it! I signed up to run a half marathon in the autumn in a bid to force myself to keep going all year but I'm not sure if that's a distance too far and if I wouldn't prefer to just keep trying to get faster at a 5 and 10 k. Time will tell I guess. At the minute it seems a tall order as by 11k I feel I've used up ALL my energy and I begin to feel my hips ache and my butt, knees etc! - Makes me feel old! I am trying to do a longer run on the weekends, a swim once a week, two interval training sessions and a short run session a week. I'm a lot fitter than when I started but could still be a lot fitter than I am if you know what I mean! I'm hoping to do the 10k in an hour but have no ideas as to date the only 10k's I've run have been with lots of hilly bits and this is flat. I'm terrified of doing a race but I'm thinking that by entering I am committed to train which means I can't slob any more. I've lost two stone in the process and don't want it back so that's motivation enough!

Wow ,pleaseputyourhoeson, 2 stone in 6 months? That's impressive and definitely a good motivator! I bet you really enjoy your 10k race and there's loads of time to train up gradually for the half marathon in autumn.

What injury homessweetholmes? I am a bit obsessed with injury at the moment having had 2 spoil my running in the last 2 years! On the plus side my knees feel back to normal only 5 days after a v painful run so I'm hopeful that the exercises I'm doing are working & I'll be running again sooner than I thought.

I've been running since the '70s and am more than happy to give advice. It's a wonderful, fulfilling and very cheap activity so long as you don't buy into the commercial side of it.

Hi all! Does anyone run just for themselves? I love to run alone listening to my radio. I have tried running in marathons but simply love to run on my own with no targets and no personal bests! I have had some fab runs lately in this wild and wacky weather...what I call 'movie moments'. Running through thick snow flakes being one of them! Brilliant fun.
