Will post the race list later on computer.
Come one, come all. We are a band of maverick posters who run, talk about running, and talk about other stuff, mostly life, large pants, and questionable children's artwork. Come and join us if you dare! Disclaimer: we are actually the friendliest thread on MN. Fact.

I have got a big bum sticky (especially after Christmas) but I'm not sure how lovely it is!

What do you do for speed work? I found an interesting article here www.runnersworld.co.uk/general/speedwork-for-every-runner/167.html but I'd love to know what everyone else does.

stickyLFDTfingers · 04/01/2012 11:27

up til now I've been very unscientific - e.g. if I'm doing a 5 mile run, made miles 2 and 4 as fast I could go. It still works, I'm faster than I was when I started out running again.

Now (I like saying this!) I've got my garmin I've fed in the suggested speed work from the runners world marathon plan I'm following, so each week I should be getting a bit faster for a bit longer.

Also I now have a HRM, so will be doing effort work, ifyswim, as well as speed work. Haven't quite got round to calibrating the HRM though, but I have saved runnings quick guide she did a couple of threads back so will be sprinting up a hill soon. Just not today!! Walking home uphill was quite enough for me (and I'm still sitting down and not getting on with things...Blush must go and earn my keep)

stickyLFDTfingers · 04/01/2012 11:28

oh and I'm sure your bum is very lovely!!

rhetorician · 04/01/2012 11:29

hello all - luverly new thread, just settling in...did 12.5km this morning and it was really great to be able to stretch out a bit. Enjoyed it.

peach in answer to your qu on previous thread, yes, first time away, which is a whole other thread; in fact, it is actually another thread

Dd1 at nursery, loads to do; wheely you've got good present ideas.

On knickers, I tend to run in very basic pants - high legs, but I usually keep the older ones for running.

Wheelybug · 04/01/2012 11:34

Thanks sticky - yes she can not get enough of craft so there is always that fall back. I, however, despite coming from a long line of crafty women (Grin) can not
Do any of these kits so end up getting cross. Sone of them have to be left until my Mum comes to stay.

Great article runners - will look in more detail. I do a speed session on the treadmill once a week.
I usually do 8k -
2 k warm up,
1k at 12 kph (HM pace)
500 M recovery
1k at 12.5
Recovery
1k at 13
Recover
500m at 13, then 12 , then 11, then 10

Not sure how 'good' it is but it's easy to think about. Moshi once posted a great one on here but I needed to have it written down in the gym to remember it Grin

DebiTheScot · 04/01/2012 11:42

No time to read and catch up at the moment but had to share this.
One of my students (age 15) just asked me if I have to pay to cross the bridge when I go to Scotland! She actually thought Scotland was completely separate to England! And why did she think this? Because you have to cross a bridge to get into Wales!! Shock

Wheelybug · 04/01/2012 11:44

Actually I lie. 12 kph is faster than my HM pace. It's more like my aspirational HM
Pace.

fannybanjo · 04/01/2012 12:08

I need some good speed interval sessions so please post any ideas. So many in the running mags - too complicated. I feel that 3 hard sessions and 3 easy a week suit me. One of the marathon training plans in the latest women's running mag is bloody hardcore! 2 runs a day on some days.

fannybanjo · 04/01/2012 12:14

Meant to say - on quick glance on everyone's FB photos - everyone has beautiful kids! Must be the runners who produce them...Grin

sfxmum · 04/01/2012 12:48

marking place, thanks peach

sfxmum · 04/01/2012 12:53

wheely dd is a bit spoiled as the only child in the family so she always gets tons of stuff from assorted uncles and cousins, this year she really liked her password journal
and she loves her books so got a few, also her rolling skates, she got them a couple of years back and they can be extended, her feet grow at an alarming rate she is now a 1 and half in some circs

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 04/01/2012 12:55

Ouch filling replaced. Was just lying there thinking I'd rather be running or even giving birth. Had a fancy White one this time, ooh get me, fancy pants (for when anyone chooses to gaze into the back of my mouth Hmm).

Sorry I can't help with girl stuff, if we get invited to a girly party I always give money or Claire's vouchers! Although we did give an 8 year old girl Hama beads (sp?) a few months back cos ds2 said she really liked them, bet the mum was cursing us .......

Sat having a black coffee waiting for DH before I get my brows threaded. All I can see around me is cake (spot the woman who's had no carbs for 2 days .....). Tell a lie ive cracked and had my porridge this morning. Sooooo hungry Sad.

sfxmum · 04/01/2012 12:58

Shred can you snack on almonds or some sort of other nut? maybe crudites? going hungry does not work for me, don't mind the sugar cravings, because they go but hunger no n

fannybanjo · 04/01/2012 13:00

wheely DD1 got that password journal too - oh how I have laughed when I've heard her shouting her "password" a thousand times into it... HmmGrin

DD1 more a technology kind of girl, never liked dolls toys etc. Big reader and enjoys board games. DD2 likes farting around with anything and DD3 is the real true player in the house. Loves Sylvanian families and figures and is a genius at jigsaws! So all different.

I copied this list from N4NNY's post on 31/12/11 - hope it's the most recent, if not apologies to anyone I have omitted.... Am a bit tempted by the Cambridge HM, seeing that 4 of you have entered, will have to see how that could fit into training...

Fanny not sure if anyone responded to your marathon training Q..? Have you asked at the running club? (also good source of info re speed sessions) I really have no idea if what you are proposing is too much though. I think it is useful to focus on the marathon date and work backwards from there. Most people start to taper for a marathon a month or so before, so after this point your runs need to be getting shorter.

Peach, think you need more fibre in your diet!

Finally hauled myself out for a run this morning. I put my running tights on at 8.20am, my socks at 8.45, my shoes at 9.15 and left the house at 9.40am Blush. Managed 12 miles though so was pleased with that. Passed 3 different groups of horse riders en route, always wary of coming up silently from behind, so kept having to shout out "morning" so they were aware of me.

fannybanjo · 04/01/2012 13:04

Shred sod no carbs - you run, you need them. I know people scoff at calorie counting but I did that myfitnesspal app when I needed to shift baby weight and it was great as I could eat anything and could put in running etc. it's like having a diary really which keeps you on track.

fannybanjo · 04/01/2012 13:08

Ladies I've just accepted friends request from a "JJ" - which one of you is it...?!

fannybanjo · 04/01/2012 13:11

Ah it's cherry!!

bonkersLFDT20 · 04/01/2012 13:20

Hey Fanny.....please be my friend on FB. Don't know who you are. Can't see any fanny pics Grin

Hmmm, there are about 6 or 7 "suggested friends" for me on FB where loads of you lot are mutual friends. Haven't got a scooby do who you all are though!

futurity · 04/01/2012 13:22

Sorry ibby but Cambridge is full up ...they only had 3000 places as it is the first time the event is run.

backwardLFDTpossom · 04/01/2012 13:32

Marking my place, thanks for a new thread :)

fishie · 04/01/2012 13:35

hello runnners. the posts... the threads... there are so many you are too too busy.

I have been running with the dog. He has to be on a lead and he doesn't always co-operate, it is making me very slow, sometimes it is like dragging a full shopping trolley around. But it is just too dark and scary at 6.30am to go on my own and I hate evening runs.

I see we've got so far into the future that the GNR won't be hanging off the end! So far it's the only race I'm definitely doing.

Sounds like a good long run ibby (though I wonder what you were doing between 8.20 and 9.40!)

shred don't be hungry, life's definitely too short!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 04/01/2012 13:46

Ahoy fishie, not seen you in ages!

bonkers, don't think I "know" you on fb. I am might be one of your suggestions. Initials RS. In a picture I am standing in front of a red "Exclusion Zone" sign with a stupid look on my face.

peach I had wondered whether there was some special significance to your picture - happy memories of a nuclear facility or something!

bonkers if I'm on your list, I'm KT. And have a moustache.
