Will post the race list later on computer.
Come one, come all. We are a band of maverick posters who run, talk about running, and talk about other stuff, mostly life, large pants, and questionable children's artwork. Come and join us if you dare! Disclaimer: we are actually the friendliest thread on MN. Fact.

Debi I am about 10 minutes drive inland from Monifieth.

I think I would enter the Royal Parks ballot as it looks like great race. If you are known as "a runner" then people might be a bit funny about sponsoring for a 10k - but if you can raise enough it shouldn't really matter. (Those same people are likely to be armchair athletes anyway!)

Which part of Dundee are you from? I grew up in the west end.

stickyLFDTfingers · 18/01/2012 16:31

if it's me debi I'm more concerned about the charity than what the person's doing for it. I don't very often sponsor people, because I'm a tight git because I think it's better just to set up a standing order to one and make more of a difference, but when it's a friend it makes me feel better if it's a charity I would have like to give money to anyway.

Does it have to be London?

RunnersTipple · 18/01/2012 17:23

£45? Ouch. Nice hoodie though! I agree with sticky debi, for me its usually about the charity not the effort per se. Plus if its a friend asking for sponsorship I would sponsor them regardless of the distance they are doing, if that makes sense.

DebiTheScot · 18/01/2012 20:48

It doesn't have to be London no. But I fancy doing a big event. I emailed the charity to ask about GSR but they don't have places there either. It's not a big charity but is for an illness that dh's cousin has so I would have no problems raising the money. chief that's what I thought- they might think, just 10k, that's not far! There's nothing to stop me doing Royal Parks for the charity anyway (if I got in) but then I'd obviouly have to pay the entry fee myself.
How would I get into London though? Or do I worry about that nearer the time?

chief, I'm from the not so posh end. A small estate between Mill O' Mains and Trottick (which is nicer than both those areas)

Superspudable · 19/01/2012 14:30

Royal Parks sounds lovely debi - £45 is a bit much though! Guess the hoody is "a sweetener"... I think at least doing something for a charity that means something too you encourages people to sponsor you rather than them focusing on the distance iykwim...

Well I have a twin now for the twin 18k and am officially registered!! She has 6month old twins!! And I am married to a twin... so it is all a bit twin-tastic! I saw it advertised on the running group I am in, quite a few ladies did it last year. Won't be breaking any speed records but happy to share the experience and just finish in one piece! Even got myself some Asics trail shoes in a bargain sale today (35 euros).

Did a nice 6.5k this morning but felt my calf being all twingey so cut it a bit shorter than I would have liked. But otherwise I feel happy to up my distance. Voltareze gel is my new best friend :-/

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 19/01/2012 16:39

I think I know which bit you mean Debi - my sister lives up in that new Emmock Woods development.

Good bargain Superspud

I did just over 5 miles on the tready this morning. I am now able to maintain for an hour at 8.3k/hr whereas a couple of weeks ago i was having to keep the speed nearer 7k/hr to keep my HR down so I think it is working.

Planning a long run tomorrow of about 8 miles - there is talk of snow though so I may have to do it indoors. Has anyone done any of their long runs on the treadmill? The one at my gym automatically start slowing down for a cool down after 1 hour so I would have to reset it and start again.

Superspudable · 20/01/2012 07:57

Never seen it so quiet on here, have you all defected to the other side?

Bumply · 20/01/2012 08:12

Come and join us spud. Send me a pm and I'll add you to the fb group

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 20/01/2012 08:13

I was just about to post the same thing Spud.

But I don't like FB Bumply .....

DebiTheScot · 20/01/2012 09:35

littlechief it's the 70s build estate just down the hill a bit from Emmock Woods! I love the houses up there, they've got a nice tall window by the door to put a tall wooden giraffe in Grin

I decided to enter the ballot as you didn't have to commit to paying so now when I don't get in it's not my fault that I don't do. I probablyshould be commited to do another half until I find out if I shins can cope with long runs anyway!

I did my first ever treadmill run last night. It was definitely easier on the shin but I forgot my headphones and it was boring! My schedule said a slow 3miles (treadmill in km so had to do some maths to work out ideal pace!) but at 3k I was bored and sped up a bit for the next 1.5k to get it over with quicker!

DebiTheScot · 20/01/2012 09:36

*probably shouldn't be commiting

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 20/01/2012 11:59

Ha ha - my sister has a tall wooden giraffe in hers!

Just did 5.2 miles on the treadmill - could not do it without headphones and radio 4 to keep me company.

RunnersTipple · 20/01/2012 12:29

Well done littlechief, I did 7.1 in the rain today which was okay until some bastard driver, on a very quiet country lane, refused to slow down for two seconds to allow me to get through a flood and went through it at speed soaking me from head to toe. I know I was already pretty wet from the rain but it was still minging to be covered in freezing cold puddle water. I even had to wipe it out of my eyes. Bastard. It put me in a really bad mood which only a long hot bath could resolve.

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 20/01/2012 12:37

superspud good news on the twinning.

debi I find the treadmill incredibly boring, only really good for intervals I find.

runners that's horrible behaviour. Someone did it to me a few months back, completely unnecessarily.

Superspudable · 20/01/2012 14:49

Bumply - have pm'd you thank you! Hopefully join you on the other side shortly!

Runners - I would be spitting feathers, I hate inconsiderate driving especially in bad weather. Gah at having to wipe it out of your eyes Shock

Not sure I could "do" treadmill running - I have a very low boredom threshold in any case. I am trying a new running route every time I go out at the moment!

Am so excited about my twin run so hopefully that will really motivate me to up my mileage. Wore my new trail shoes all yesterday evening (in a dress and purple tights!!) will try and work out how to put it on the race list at some point...
