All ye fine runners who wish to get together to discuss running-related topics, or otherwise, come and join us here. We are a friendly and incredibly supportive group of runners, varying in ability, but all bonded together by a common theme of loving running, committed to squeezing it into our busy lives and wanting to improve our own PBs. So whether you are a full-time mum, part-time working mum, full-time working mum, working from home mum, mum who is studying, or even a dad Grin, add your race to the list so you can be sure of some moral support and advice along the way. And if you aren't racing, don't worry as you can enjoy the race reports and race vicariously.

Oh and hallelujah, have finally managed to persuade DD1 to have a haircut! It just needs a trim as ends are all ratty and difficult to brush but she was adamant for ages that nobody was cutting her "booful" hair!

monkeyLFDTwench · 03/12/2011 08:45

N4NNY that's frustrating - hopefully things will pick up soon. My SIL (just made redundant) went for her first interview in 20 years yesterday, so fingers crossed for you both.

rhet have read about the lactation drugs before, do you know anyone who's done it? To me it just sounds wrong, like saying that breastfeeding is the only way you can bond with your baby. While I loved feeding mine, I don't feel that DH missed out because to be fair to him he did everything else Smile. I used to do the night feeds then he would take the baby and go and watch crap telly in the middle of the night. I think On The Buses was a particular favourite!

On which subject, yes peach I'm afraid your DP needs to Harden The Fuck Up. There's no room for passengers when you have two small children. My brother is lovely, but has never changed a nappy in his life, and his wife let's him get away with it - so he carries on. It means she gets no time for herself, and feels martyred the whole time. DH has been basted in piss n shit from nappies more times than I care to remember, and wouldn't bat an eyelid. In fact I just remembered the Costa Incident - one time when ds1 filled his babygro with liquid yellow poo up to the armpits and down to the feet. Will never forget the sight of DH carrying him gingerly at arms length through Costa in Worthing, apologising to everyone as he went!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 03/12/2011 09:32

Omg monkey Grin at your Costa incident! Shock at your brother! DP has always done DD1s nappies but just makes such a fuss about poo, it is tiresome.

Happily K is sleeping better at night, we have been starting the night co-sleeping till DP comes to bed, then she goes in her basket and has been doing anything between an hour and 2.5 hours so that's pretty amazing. DD1 was 6 months before she slept for a 3 hour stretch, so K much easier so far.

rhetorician · 03/12/2011 09:35

monkey I don't know anyone IRL, but there are lots of (mostly) American lesbian parenting blogs and some of them do it; a lot of the non-bio mothers seem to elevate the biological thing too much to me - somehow to make that an obstacle to their relationship with the child. To me it's very very simple - the only thing that DD1 and I do not share is DNA and I do genuinely think that sometimes I work a little harder at the bond because I never ever take it for granted. It's actually a very special thing

well, DP has had some leaking of waters, but I'm going to do race at 11 and then we'll see what happens. I should only be gone for about an hour (shorter than if I was going to the shops). DD woke up this morning and said 'my little sister is coming soon'...let's hope she is right!

fannybanjo · 03/12/2011 09:42

Hahahahaha monkey I had a dream about you last night and you were posing naked! Grin

monkeyLFDTwench · 03/12/2011 09:52

Rhet I absolutely get that, I've also read about adoptive mothers breastfeeding but it just sounds so hard and yes an overcompensation (albeit an understandable one). Good luck with the race and the exciting leaking - sounds very promising!

. Any particular context to this dream or just ms showing off my beyooootiful body?!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 03/12/2011 09:52

Oooh Rhet, exciting!!! Hope you enjoy your race and the weather is ok there!

rhetorician · 03/12/2011 09:56

it's a very bright, cold morning, so I think I'll be in tights, not shorts. Hat, or no hat?

monkeyLFDTwench · 03/12/2011 09:58

I'm a head sweater so not for me! Good luck!

fannybanjo · 03/12/2011 10:00

Good luck rhet!! Hooray at waters leaking! She'll go soon.... Wink

monkey it was for a magazine and that's all I can remember! Bits are coming back - reason I think I had such a dream as that photo of you at Chester marathon with the St John's Ambulance in it popped into my head last night!

Hatwoman · 03/12/2011 10:07

got to be really quick - a million things to do. I often hate running for a mile or two. esp up hills. and when I get longer distance I start to hate it at about the 12 mile mark (bored now and my bones are aching) but I enjoy the middle bit and on a good day feel like I'm powering along. and I like the high of a really good, strong run, or a race.

rhet - I take it you've seen that awesome guy from Iowa giving testimony on having two mums? It's old but for some reason has been doing the rounds on facebook. It was when they tried to overturn the (relatively recent) law legalising gay marriage. afaik the lower house voted to overturn Angry but the upper house didn't let it go though Smile (I think - I gogled quickly to try to make sense of it all). Anyway he's a 19 year old young man and he speaks beautifully about family and love and blimey it'll make your lip wobble here

monkeyLFDTwench · 03/12/2011 10:10

I saw that too hat, Moshi had it on Facebook. Was lovely Smile.

rhetorician · 03/12/2011 10:10

yes, he's brilliant, isn't he? suspect my dds will be less shining examples of the virtues of lesbian parenthood Wink...

sfxmum · 03/12/2011 10:21

Waters leaking? Run Rhet Run good luck to both
I am at dd's concert now next set drums think I might need a coffee break

The FB Iowa boy was lovely they are really weird over the pond mostly want government out of their lives except to legislate what goes on in the bedroom between 2 consenting adults

Wheelybug · 03/12/2011 10:50

Ooh rhet ! Sounds promising... And FWIW, I fed one of my mine and not the other (early, low birth weight) and my bond is the same with both.

So, Dh has just broken it to me that he has got tickets (for him and clients ) to the Olympics - 200m final mens, plus other finals and medal ceremonies. He found out weds and has been trying to pluck up the courage to break it to me. This was the man that 'wasn't bothered about seeing any athletics in the olmpics . And he's got another load for a lesser evening. Grrrrrrrr.

fannybanjo · 03/12/2011 10:51

wheely Shock men's 200m finals! Oh dear, are you gutted? Can you not cadge a ticket....

Wheelybug · 03/12/2011 10:59

Am well gutted. He waited till we were in the safety of Costa with the dds so I couldn't abuse him too much. No chance of a ticket for me for that one as they don't have many but he might be able to squeeze me in to the other one. Git.

futurity · 03/12/2011 11:09

wheely I hope you use this against your DH from now until the Olympics ..get him to do lots of stuff for you to make up for it!

Still no running for me..still feeling rough and sick and fed up!

rhetorician · 03/12/2011 12:33

grr at Olympic tickets, wheely. There's a kilomathon next year that uses the stadium, I think, it's here...26.2km

back from run - v. cold and windy, messed up start, and not quite sure of finish time, as forgot to switch off Garmin (met a colleague and his wife), but think it was just over 30, which I am happy with (smashing my previous 5k pb os Xmas Blush about 37+ Xmas Grin)

must shower and drag dd away from the tv, lest she turns square...will take her out to the swings this avo, I think

proper race report later

monkeyLFDTwench · 03/12/2011 12:43

wheely that happened to me with Take That tickets, DH got to go and sit in a corporate box the jammy bastard despite whining to me "I don't much like Take That ......" - he gets to go to loads of gigs for free plus lots of England footie matches Hmm.

rhet that sounds amazing am very Xmas Envy as would love to get under 30 - am hovering around 31 at the mo ..... your DP should be under threat of labour more often!

monkeyLFDTwench · 03/12/2011 12:45

futurity me too, love. No rubbing all week, not since Sunday - tried on Monday but felt too rough Xmas Sad.

futurity · 03/12/2011 13:18

It's rubbish isn't it monkey ..I just feel so sick all the time and doing lots of burps and feeling dizzy when my ear goes weird. No idea whether it is a cold thing or a different bug but I am fed up as I want to run!

fannybanjo · 03/12/2011 13:22

Ah futurity and monkey hope you both get well spoon.

rhet bloody well done! See, you're training is working. You must be chuffed. Sorry forgot to say last night, yes - 18 miles furthest I've ever ran!

Costco for me and DDs this avvy as I need to collect photos.. DH shooting. Just having my fave Chai tea from Starbucks (I buy the twangs from there). Anyone ever had it?

fannybanjo · 03/12/2011 13:23

Flaming soon not spoon and teabag not twang. Blush

monkeyLFDTwench · 03/12/2011 13:24

fanny your autocorrects are getting hilarious! Was just reading that damnautocorrect thing yesterday and some of them are priceless.
