All ye fine runners who wish to get together to discuss running-related topics, or otherwise, come and join us here. We are a friendly and incredibly supportive group of runners, varying in ability, but all bonded together by a common theme of loving running, committed to squeezing it into our busy lives and wanting to improve our own PBs. So whether you are a full-time mum, part-time working mum, full-time working mum, working from home mum, mum who is studying, or even a dad Grin, add your race to the list so you can be sure of some moral support and advice along the way. And if you aren't racing, don't worry as you can enjoy the race reports and race vicariously.

I iron and run. That is all. Oh and I trim my bushette when I'm 9 months pregnant as it resembles that Dumbledore by that time.

rhet I think you worry a lot. I think as you are the non-pregnant partner you feel guilty sometimes and try to take the load off DP which is admirable but don't feel guilty at doing you're running. It's what helps you function.

rhetorician · 02/12/2011 21:06

I do, fanny I do worry a lot...I have learned over this year not to feel guilty about running (mostly) - I know that DP doesn't mind and has never suggested for a moment that I shouldn't. Once she is safely post-partum I know that she will want to get to the gym so it will balance out again.

Um, fanny I think you are being a bit modest here - or do you leave your dds in a kennel for most of the day? (don't tempt me, says she)

sfxmum · 02/12/2011 21:06

master that sounds pretty rough stay safe

hat at present I almost have the luxury of enough time on my hands, i do some work for dh and study part time, dd is at school. but that will soon change, I will try to find work which will be odd hrs and hopefully the business will get off the ground at some point next year.
dh can work very long hrs and I worry the impact of all that on dd and on running, because results and improvements aside, it is still instrumental in keeping me sane

monkeyLFDTwench · 02/12/2011 21:06

I'm SG on fb!

fannybanjo · 02/12/2011 21:09

Jesus I'm throwing this phone in the Mersey. It should read "at doing your running"

rhetorician · 02/12/2011 21:11

using your ironing arm, presumably Xmas Wink?

sfxmum · 02/12/2011 21:11

and good luck for tomorrow rhet
I think times around the birth of a child are different from the rest it takes time to jiggle back and renegotiate the new order

another thing that worries me is what happens when the 2 parents have full on jobs, anyway talking out loud
time for extra Wine

fannybanjo · 02/12/2011 21:13

rhet guilt is good in small quantities as it shows you're not a selfish test however EVERYONE is entitled to down time. I used to be a martyr and always be with the children but now I realise how better a parent I am for doing a hobby I love. DH spends hours each week on his dogs and cool with it, I wasn't when I had very young babies though.... Felt resentment towards him having a life and I didn't.

Yes I do far more than ironing, pube pruning and running. I also post on here!

Hey I ran 18 miles today and no-one has given me a gold carriage clock! Sad

fannybanjo · 02/12/2011 21:15

Twat not test. Bastard twatting Apple spellcheck has forgotten my vulgarity.

fannybanjo · 02/12/2011 21:15

Just a thought... If I joined NettoMums, would I be banned?

rhetorician · 02/12/2011 21:17

18 miles! that's pretty amazing...here have an old Timex Grin is that the longest you've ever run?

m&m good to see you, although sorry to hear that things are so tough and that they improve soon

fannybanjo · 02/12/2011 21:19

I did tell everyone on an earlier post but it's been ignored.... SadGrin

18 miles. Pace 9.21. Piss easy too. GrinWink was ace. Got lost, we had a print out of route and were like two knobheads back tracking everywhere. Hence ended up 18 miles. Mate thinks I'll piss a marathon. HmmBiscuit

DebiTheScot · 02/12/2011 21:21

Mn driving me mad. It keeps logging me out everywhere.

I can't decide whether or not to Parkrun tomorrow. I'm still full of the cold, all congested and coughing. It was ok running on Wed but I was running slowly and it wasn't frosty.

hat I'm on fb, friends with everyone I think. My name is the same as my name here as I was too niave/daft/unoriginal when I first joined and haven't ever changed it.

fannybanjo · 02/12/2011 21:24

Debi I wouldn't do Parkin if under the weather. You'll only push yourself and not the best thing if ill.

monkeyLFDTwench · 02/12/2011 21:28

Something weird happening to me too, I just posted about fb and it completely ignored all the other posts in the last hour so I didn't see them Hmm.

monkeyLFDTwench · 02/12/2011 21:30

And yes fanny I think the marathon holds no fear for you!

fannybanjo · 02/12/2011 21:38

monkey are you feeling any better? The thought of 26 miles fills me with dread. I know the last 6 is going to be do or die. My legs suffered today HOWEVER I felt unbelievably strong for the first time in ages - I had loads left in me. I'm just trying to gauge my marathon pace. Not easy.

sfxmum · 02/12/2011 21:43

fanny I read somewhere that anyone can run 20miles but it is the last 6 that count Grin but if anyone can you can, can't quite see you giving up unless you are really unwell

I think it was in Runners world had an article about a guy who run the last few miles with a broken bone

fannybanjo · 02/12/2011 21:48

Thanks sfx - Yes the last 6 where I can quite easily believe the real pain hits. I do intend to do at least 22-23 in training.... I do find that now a 13 miler is so easy whereas 6 months ago that was a struggle. The body adjusts so quickly to the demands on it. If I don't overtrain I should be ok.

MoshiMoshi · 02/12/2011 21:49

Ah ha. Of course, monkeypawswench.... (returns to watching film with DS).

MoshiMoshi · 02/12/2011 21:49

PS You'll be fine, fanny. Pleased you are joining the marathon crew. Go us. Grin

fannybanjo · 02/12/2011 21:51

Moshi quick q, if I train at 9.30m/m what can I reasonably expect on race day? Should I just be happy to finish?

RunningAllDay · 02/12/2011 21:58

very well done fanny - 18 is fab. I've got 16 on monday, building rapidly towards the 18 pre-Xmas - plotted the 16 on Google to work out where to go and it looks unbelievably long. I think my friend and I are going to be utterly sick of each other by the end of marathon training! What to talk about for hours at a time?!

No time for more - have managed to keep up with reading thead (I think) - so good luck tomorrow rhet, and with imminent arrival. Hope the colds are clearing a bit - mine is finally gone, but DD1 has had a cough since HALF-TERM. Driving me mad.

Happy rubbing weekend all!

fannybanjo · 02/12/2011 22:01

Thanks running - tip - we chat for first few easy miles then both put our music on. I need to zone out and think to myself when it's a tough run. Maybe you could do the same?

stickyLFDTfingers · 02/12/2011 22:03

hello hello. hat on FB I'm the one with the glasses and moustache.

So, my thoughts this evening on running marathons:

Have been talking to father of DDs' friends, who is a veteran runner, mountain marathon runner etc and he was so very calm about me doing a marathon, I'm pretty convinced I should just fucking do it. I think if I talk to "normal" people (the running version of muggles, if you will), I get myself in a tether because doing a marathon, or actually 5k, is so far out their range of experience. Talk to other wizards (and fanny has the beard already :)) and suddenly it doesn't seem so odd at all. Just something to do.
