Anyone want to join me? It means we should start 2012 being able to run 5k - now there's an incentive to stick with it.

Hi, can I join you.

Just done W3R1 in sunshine, rain, hail and wind.

It wasn't as bad as I was expecting, the worst bit was the second 90 second run, which started just as I turned into a head wind. It was not pleasant, but so pleased I'm managing to stick with the programme.

HamblesHandbag · 07/12/2011 16:49

Welcome popelloucia Smile

I'm deeply impressed with anyone still running outside now - HAIL FGS! No chance, I'm made of softer stuff.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 07/12/2011 19:05

Welcome pop.
hamble I prefer the outside, rain and all. The thought of a gym would put me right off. I like the blustery wind Smile.
Facial sounds lovely.

CarolCervix · 08/12/2011 08:18

this week has been rubbish. was going to do W3R2 this morning but tooooo tired and going back to bed. will do tomorrow and then repeat if needed.

ohbugrit · 08/12/2011 08:47

Carolcervix that's probably a good plan. I'm due to do that run today but last night I dragged myself up to an exercise class I've signed up for and I'm exhausted this morning. Sick kids, not much sleep and I think it was just too much. Planning a quiet evening, early night and try again tomorrow.

Also, in the last 2 weeks I haven't lost an ounce! Need to sort my diet out I think :(

musttidyupmusttidyup · 08/12/2011 19:26

I did W4R1 today. Weather was dreadful but run was great. Definitely noticed a big difference from week 3, it felt much longer. Was ok though and did the longer runs without too much problem. Covered a long distance (for me, anyhow) and am very surprised and pleased to have run for 16 WHOLE MINUTES! Who'd have thought it possible?
I am a little frightened to say it in case I bugger up and woos (sp?) out but why did I not discover running a long time ago? Have I finally found an exercise I can stick with? Wine tonight to celebrate!Xmas Smile

golemmings · 08/12/2011 23:53

Congratulations tidy!
I have to confess that I'm with Carol and obugrit and failed to get out today. Kids are refusing to go bed or at least dd is getting hysterical at bedtime and taking over an hour to settle most nights and.DS frequently just howls when put to bed o we end up taking him downstairs again which means if I run after getting the kids to bed we end up not having tea until about half 9. Ho hum. If I get my act in

OP posts:
golemmings · 08/12/2011 23:56

...gear tomorrow I can run first thing before docs at 10, then work Xmas lunch and office admin, pick up dd, Xmas tree festival, bedtime battle, tea for us and bed. If I don't get out by 9 I don't think I'll get out at all.

OP posts:
musttidyupmusttidyup · 09/12/2011 06:26

There is no way I'd manage if I couldnt get out until DCs down, I just couldn't summon up enough energy. Once they're all in bed I just want to sink into the sofa.
I was cunning yesterday and took all the DCs and picked up DH then ran home and left him to drive them home and sort them
out. Grin.

golemmings · 09/12/2011 07:40

That's smart. DH was out most of yesterday so it was run with the buggy or stay in gossiping with a friend and drinking tea given the weather I stayed in.

OP posts:
golemmings · 09/12/2011 07:43

Hey bugrit!

Did you survive yesterday? Was thinking of you... The weather looked spectacular.

OP posts:
ohbugrit · 09/12/2011 07:46

Well done you two, keep at it ... 16 minutes is WOW! :)

I've gone out quite often once they're in bed. It drives DH nuts because I come back completely wired and start yapping on to him about how wonderful running is Grin. But I go with the dogs and mostly run off road with a headtorch so it's an adventure, the gym's a different story!

Speaking of which, much of the snow melted in the rain and wind yesterday but there's still ice everywhere so gym again tonight.

ohbugrit · 09/12/2011 07:51

Cross posts lemmings ... no run for me yesterday. DH was out from 5am til 3pm and I was working from 4 til 7pm and after the kids vomiting all day Wed I was knackered, went to bed instead!

CarolCervix · 09/12/2011 08:39

my nights have killed me. i feel like crap. and i just cannot face ging out. i think i might go to the gym today and restrt run from tomorrow.

it is also so bloody cold. how do I run in the cold?

golemmings · 09/12/2011 09:33

Carol, give yourself a break. Nights is hard work. Tomorrow is another day. If you're confident, pick up where you left off; if you think you've forgotten how to run, you van always do one more of last weeks run.

I've just done w3r2. It was harder than on Monday but much hollowed. Discovered the problem with out and back runs: that nice gentle down hill at the start of run 1 is a killer bastard uphill slog at the end of the final run. Still I was faster and went further than Monday. W3r3 tomorrow and then w4 starts on Sunday. Wonder if 3 days on the trot will kill me?

OP posts:
musttidyupmusttidyup · 09/12/2011 09:44

Take a day between golemmings you don't want to do yourself a mischief Xmas Smile

CarolCervix · 10/12/2011 12:02

W3R2 done.

my headphones broke half way through though so i didn't hear her tell me to stop after the first 3 minute run so i kept going while i fiddled with them and ran straight through the 3 minute walk too! so I did 6 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ohbugrit · 10/12/2011 13:14

Carol wow! See what you're capable of?!

I gave myself an extra (third) day off yesterday because the DC have been ill this week and it's been a slog. I won some vouchers yesterday so spent them on nice wine and posh ready meals for our tea. Then spent all night with violent V & D thanks to the kids sharing their bugs :(

No running today, will see how I feel in the morning.

golemmings · 10/12/2011 16:57

Poor you, bugrit. D&v is always horrid but its really insulting after a really nice meal. Just make sure you take it easy until you're fully recovered.

Carol; I'm very impressed. 6 minutes is brilliant.

You know how a mother's place is in the wrong, yeah? It is; unless you're Tidy. Tidy; you were right. Running two consecutive days was silly. I did w3r3 today and it was hard. I ran slower than yesterday - I just couldn't get my legs going faster but the bastard killer hill was merely a git today and

OP posts:
golemmings · 10/12/2011 17:03

Not the end of the world. I also got closer to home today running out and back than I did yesterday. Yesterday I got to the end of the road on the return leg; today I got 2 doors down . It may it 100 yards better but it was better.

I'm not running tomorrow though. Will go out first thing Monday morning though. Got my dad coming up Monday mid day so my running time might be a bit limited next week.

Oh poof you bugrit hope your feeling better in the morning.
Re-did my running playlist today but need some new tunes. So out

musttidyupmusttidyup · 10/12/2011 21:32

Yay! I've been trying to convince my household for AGES that I'm right and now I am! Thanks Golemmings
Oh poor you bugrit hope your feeling better in the morning.
Re-did my running playlist today but need some new tunes. So out of touch with anything post 2005 and getting a bit fed up with same old songs.....
Surprisingly easy to run to .... U2 and eminem (?wtf)
An looking forward to tomorrows run, W4R2, I'm going to my olds tomo with the kids so think I'll leave them there and do my run then.
Was itching to go this afternoon. What is that about?? I hate exercise?!?!
BTW running pals I use a lot of punctuation when I've been on the wine Xmas Grin

musttidyupmusttidyup · 10/12/2011 21:33

Ooops. Apologise for my premature postulation.

ohbugrit · 11/12/2011 06:14

This is my kind of sport and exercise thread, with a nice theme of inebriation throughout. Grin

Up early thanks to DH's excessive use of Olbas oil in the night giving me a nice 5am asthma session. In fairness I was already up with DD but couldn't get back to sleep once she was settled.

Feeling much more like myself today so hoping to run later. I'll have missed 4 days but I'm going to try and pick up where I left off with Wk3 run2.

golemmings · 11/12/2011 08:36

Tidy??? Out of touch with anything post 2005? You've just made me feel ancient. I think I mostly stop at 1995. My fault for listening to heart fm I guess...

I still like running to songs like eye of the tiger and all right now. Plus I have stuff performed by friends and songs recorded in the pub session where I used to play.

I need some new music too. Tbh, my play list is the one I put together for labour when dd was born and was used again with DS. It's designed forpain over a long period of time!
