Anyone want to join me? It means we should start 2012 being able to run 5k - now there's an incentive to stick with it.

Found my bras --in the bottom of the wash box. I looked there twice Blush Will go out this pm if they're dry...

Hurray!

5ofus · 31/03/2012 17:32

I went out last night, after some procrastination left it FAR too late, and did a 25 min run (call it week 7 again!) around the local area which I'm fairly certain is my best run around outside to date. Total distance covered 4.34km including warm up and cool down.

I decided to run to a local roundabout, then round it and back home just for a change of scenery. Course I hadn't factored in the creepy quietness of the road leading to the roundabout nor the crossing of the 4 lane entrance across the other side so perhaps this won't be a regular route for me!

I'd had 4 days off owing to an over done boozy night out on Wed night which resulted in damaging my poor toes having done drunk dancing in high heeled boots. Great night but my powers of recovery are not what they are.

I've decided next run I'm going for 28 mins.

Quiet here - anyone else still around? I'm wondering if joining a more busy c25k thread might help my motivation a bit? There's a good one over in weight loss I've been lurking in just a bit.

5ofus · 02/04/2012 10:50

28 min run last night, had to stop a couple of times to catch my breath but I ran more of it than my previous 28 min run so I'm pleased. Did 4.8km too in a total of 41 mins so I'm edging closer to 5km total.

Tomorrow I'm running again, planning to go for 28 mins again and hopefully run the same or better.

DP not doing so well, he's just started week 2 and has developed painful shin splints. I think he needs new shoes and to take things more carefully.

How are the rest of you getting on?

golemmings · 02/04/2012 22:45

Hiya! Still about but only lurking having lost my mojo along with my bras...

Love your roundabout experience! Can't believe you got a sports injury from drunken dancing though... That's really funny, but it must have really hurt once you sobered up.

You're so close to 5k. That's really good. Are you feeling dead proud of yourself?

Sorry your DH is struggling though.

Worse was the killer hangover! I was really sick in the morning, stayed in hotel room until 11.30 and still couldn't face the tube so walked from Edgeware Road to Hyde Park Corner tube. At that point i had recovered enough to trust myself not to vomit. I was very pleased to have had the foresight to cancel all my work calls that day and to take some trainers with me.

It was lovely to see all the runners along the Thames at the South Bank. For the first time ever I wanted to join in.

golemmings · 02/04/2012 23:17

Lol. And on a school night too. Shocking!! And sis you swear you'd never drink that much again?

OP posts:
5ofus · 02/04/2012 23:19

Should explain I saw the runners on drinking day - not previously described hangover-from-hell day!

Good luck finding your mojo again go

I've just started MyFitnessPal and have actually lost weight for the first time since running began. I'm finding it's helping motivate me mostly because I'm fairly sure running will get easier if I lose some of the extra 2 stone I'm carrying Grin

5ofus · 02/04/2012 23:21

It was a work do! Paid for by work too so a perfect networking opportunity. Ending the night dancing in high heels in a dodgy central London bar was not so professional.

5ofus · 03/04/2012 21:05

Another run done tonight. Running total now 104km Grin

Just an easy 25 mins tonight as I ran with a friend who hadn't run for a week or so. We did 4.09km total.

bugrit tidy go? Anyone else still here?

kickass any news on your scans etc?

5ofus · 04/04/2012 17:30

News!

I've signed up for a 5k run!! Furthest I have been so far is 4.8km including warm up and cool down. I have three weeks to get up to an actual 5k run but this should be a good motivator!!

golemmings · 05/04/2012 03:20

Brilliant! That sounds like a great incentive. I need an incentive; I've not been out for a couple if weeks. Off on hols next week so will take my kit and run around bits of devon.

ohbugrit · 06/04/2012 00:17

Hi folks :)

I haven't run since my Sport Relief run. My leg was agony afterwards, really overdid it. The GP says I need 2-4 weeks off and so I've done nothing, but it still twinges even as I walk so I'll need more rest :(

Having said all that I've been a lazy bum because I could be swimming or something instead, but I haven't been. The usual excuse - DD having a truly shitty spell sleep-wise.

I'm lurking ... Just not running. Hoping to be back though!

musttidyupmusttidyup · 06/04/2012 13:23

Hi all. I'm still here and still running. Doing 2 x 6km runs plus one Zumba class each week. Have hit a weight loss plateau which is a bit shit. Am the lightest I have ever been as an adult but still have about a stone to lose. Not lost anything for 3 weeks Sad. Have trimmed another 100 cals a day off so will see....
Runnings all good though.
Btw 5 I use MyFitnessPal and have lost 38 lbs so far Grin

LemmeHaveAMiniEgg · 06/04/2012 17:02

Wow tidy 38lb is amazing. Well done you.

Sorry your leg is so sore buggrit. Any thing to be done about it or is it only rest? It must be so frustrating.

We're on our way to devon on holiday so my kit is packed and I will be running!

5ofus · 07/04/2012 12:15

Hi all.

tidy 38lbs is amazing! I'm liking MFP and finding it quite easy to use. I'm also liking the "freedom" to eat what I want without SW telling me not to have bread and weetabix on the same day which I found quite restrictive following the SW plan. Sounds like you're doing well.

bugrit sorry to hear you are still resting.

go loving the Easter name but it took me a while to figure out who you were! Enjoy Devon and new running routes!

LemmeHaveAMiniEgg · 07/04/2012 22:07

Right. IN Devon,. No phone or internet at the cottage - wifi on site bu8t not close. Cottage in bottom of very very steep valley. Uphuill in all directions. If I do a week of hill work I am going to be so stormingly fit by the time we go home. Or broken. Or retired. or dead.

Wish me luck!

musttidyupmusttidyup · 07/04/2012 22:13

Grin I had that this week at a caravan park. I walked up the massive hill to the gym and ran on the treadmill.

5ofus · 08/04/2012 08:05
Grin

Let's hope it's stormingly fit then!

5ofus · 12/04/2012 10:02

Hi all,

After a few days off with a sore thigh muscle I went out on Tuesday and had a bad run (boo!) I only managed 3.38km in total and a LOT of that was walking.

I have to remind myself that the fact I ran for around 15 mins is still a thing to be proud of, even if I wanted to run for more like 25!

How is everyone else doing? Two weeks to my first 5k event...

5ofus · 13/04/2012 15:54

This morning's run was better. Got off to an early start and was out of the house at 8am!

I have got very bored of my normal route so this time we decided to go to run along the river. Fantastic views of the River Hamble boats but the track was a little bumpy and the puddles were more puddlesome due to the massive over night rain.

On a comic note, just as my running buddy and I were agreeing not to run that track again due to the bumps (oh the irony), I tripped up over a particularly sticky out stone, and ended up lying face down on the slope leading to the swampy river. Nice. Would have been £250 from You've Been Framed had someone got it on video. Would have had wet feet had it been high tide...

Being a brave little soldier, I picked myself up and carried on Grin Just a small graze on one knee to show for it too!

4.69km done in 47.22min (I need to get faster!)

musttidyupmusttidyup · 15/04/2012 21:13

Grin 5ofus
Feel like I want to keep checking in with you guys but nothing new to report.
I now think I am a runner. It's been nearly 6 months and I'm ready to enter a race. I am so grateful for the support and comradeship from you lot.
Go us. Smile

Lovely to hear from you tidy

News from me is for the first time ever I did 5k - excluding warm up and cool down. My newly set 5k PB is 39.30. There was quite a lot of walking in there. More than I'd like!

golemmings · 17/04/2012 21:04

Yay! Well done you.

5k is indeed a milestone.

Not much news here; DH started c25k today mostly because he wants to do the major (the muddy race I did last month) in October when it happens again.

After a month of fannying about I'm finally back on track. It's 8 weeks till the 10k race and I have a 6 week programme to get me there.

DH went for a run and then I passed him the children when he came home (in the pissing rain) and went out myself. As We passed in the doorway the sun came out and he said not even terribly bitterly "oh, you might have sunshine...". I did, until the hail started... I was off road too so filthy when I got home!
