Anyone want to join me? It means we should start 2012 being able to run 5k - now there's an incentive to stick with it.

Or a quick google search reckons eating too soon before running, and not warming up enough can also be factors.

OrmIrian · 09/03/2012 14:33

Thanks 5. I did wonder about the eating thing but last time he swore he hasn't eaten just before. But he never drinks enough - won't drink water at all! I will suggest he has a small drink before we go.

golemmings · 09/03/2012 15:42

pen I'm glad somebody came along with a sensible answer. I had a feeling it had something to do with eating and drinking and also stretching possibly. Or maybe that's how you fix them. Dunno. Sorry. Not much help am i? Really glad you have motivated DS to stick with it though.

The pre pace preparations are under way. I'm sitting in an attic cafe, feeding DS, with the biggest piece of dairy free cake you have ever seen. I've just had a massage. Tonight we will.be eating pasta and debating whether alcohol will cause dehydration or is actually an essential training requirement.

What are the rest of you doing?

I did Week 6 Run 2 last night - 2 * 10 min runs! 3.62km in total which felt great.

I also worked out last night I've run 65 km so far Grin

Plus they're starting a new Parkrun near me soon so I've registered for it. I won't be able to be there until the Easter hols as DCs swim on a Sat morning, but I'm also thinking by Easter I'll be ready to run 5k!

Good luck go! Let us know how you get on.

There is a bottle of wine in the fridge with my name on it. I just have to get through this 2 hour conference call (which I should be paying more attention to!)

golemmings · 09/03/2012 17:34

Mnetting on a conference call, 5? You naughty girl! Impressed with 65k though.

OP posts:
5ofus · 09/03/2012 18:12

Aye - and whilst on my 2 hr call I found a very odd section of MN called World Cup 2010 populated by people talking Outdoorsy Shite.

And then spotted you in it go Grin (and then found it in Site stuff with an explanation)

Now, I'm partial to a good camping debate, and I've found 63 geocaches but I don't think I'm quite ready for Outdoorsy Shite.

golemmings · 09/03/2012 19:26

Oh yes. I think it was saggermakersbottomknocker who suggested a sit in so I went and made a start. It was rather more successful than anticipated but we're still waiting for mntowers to grant us our own space.

DH likes geocaching but I think he's only found two. He offered to take DS for a walk the other day and came home proudly brandishing a blue heart shaped pencil sharpener that he found in a cache. And I thought he'd gone out for the boy's benefit! DH is talking about doing c25k so that should get him the rest of the ones in the village!

OP posts:
golemmings · 10/03/2012 07:53

Right. Kitted up. Just feeding DS whilst chivvying DH to load the car aided and abetted by a small child. So glad I packed the bags last night. 2 adults and 2 children need so much stuff for an hours race!

Feeling nervous though.

ohbugrit · 10/03/2012 07:57

Go go, go go!

5ofus · 10/03/2012 08:19

Good luck go !!!

golemmings · 10/03/2012 09:13

Here. 40mins until warm up. Ours is the only buggy on site. Place is full of scary looking fit people and packs of women in fancy dress.

OP posts:
ohbugrit · 10/03/2012 09:28

Ignore everyone else - this is about you! Am very excited for you - wish it was on TV so I could bounce on the sofa and cheer you on Grin

5ofus · 10/03/2012 11:45

Oooo. Hope all went or is still going well!

golemmings · 10/03/2012 11:49

Wow. Wow. Wow. Proper post later. But survived. Loving the pompoms guys. Thank you! Next major is October. Can't wait!

OP posts:
golemmings · 10/03/2012 13:16

Ok. Atmosphere fantastic; huge speakers blasting out 80s power ballads, lots of people milling around. Mass warm up: dancing, jumping touching the floor with hands, knees, nose, back etc, crawling through people's legs.
Then the start. 3 starts for the 10k followed by start for the minor. To be honest they were a bit close together becuse we had to queue for some obstacles. The course was partly over a horse cross country course so we started by jumping into the water jump which was about knee deep. Then up a small hill to a muddy ditch which was 20m long and thigh deep. Gloopy enough to pull your leggings down! Under a bridge over a dutch, up a hill, down it, up it and then down a tarp slide. Steep enough is have had second thoughts about skiing down it. Then back up the sodding hill again. Couple of camo nets to scramble under lying over mud of varying depths some tree trunks to climb over... Interesting and muddy diversions really.

I ran almost all of it. I started pretty much at the back and was only overtaken by 3 blokes and one woman and I overtook loads of people. I even overtook a team doing the 10k at the 3k mark, they were about 45mins in. I think I finished in about an hour 9.

DH reckons that its his turn next and he's talking about running the minor in October.
Home for a shower now.

Well done go! Sounds like you enjoyed yourself - it also sounds exhausting! Loving the 80s power ballads and the equine cross country aspect Grin

Wee glass of vino for you this evening? :)

golemmings · 10/03/2012 16:53

Definitely! If I'd thought to Express this morning it would be more than a wee one!

OP posts:
kickassangel · 10/03/2012 17:24

Congrats. Sounds like real fun! Did you have to wrap yourself in plastic before being allowed back in the car?

Express when you get home, then have some wine, though you may find you fall asleep after just one sip

musttidyupmusttidyup · 10/03/2012 18:52

Sounds like a hoot go. Well done! (still think you're slightly crackers though) although I could def be tempted by 80s power ballads! Grin

golemmings · 10/03/2012 19:54

There was a woman there who ran around the first water jump and then minced along the first ditch climbing over tree roots... She said she didn't really do mud. Or water. Not too sure why she was there!

Also not sure that I'm going to stay awake long enough for wine... Not even sure dinner is going to happen. DH has man flu and is knackered. I blame the 2 consecutive undisturbed nights sleep he's had after moving into the spare room. I'd suggest takeaway but we ended to at the choppy last night. I so cannot be arsed to cook. Or wait for it to be cooked.

and kick no but I changed. Mind you, my clean white bra is decidedly brown now. The dirty stuff and the no linger clean stuff u put on afterwards are destinned for the wash. I just hope the washing machine survives!

you are bringing back fond memories of new years day - a group of us used to go for a walk. starting early morning, and struggling with a hangover were part of it. we generally planned to find the muddiest track possible, and rain was always hoped for.

anyone who was new to the walk, HAD to be rolled in mud from head to toe at some point.

then lunch at a pub. (we generally researched which ones let in muddy walkers, OR sat in the garden.)

Sometimes I was finding bits of mud in the interior of my mini months later.

5ofus · 13/03/2012 11:12

Sounds like quite an experience. I can't decide whether to be horrified or mildly interested in having a go.

Running here going OK, I did week 6 run 2 again last night as I'd had a few days off and quite frankly the 25 mins of W6R2 was looking too scary. Amazingly, as the lovely Laura signalled the last 60 seconds I actually had some energy left for a racing finish. Well, it felt like a racing finish to me. Not sure if actual speed increased but effort put in certainly did.

W6 R3 planned tomorrow night on the treadmill Grin

ohbugrit · 14/03/2012 21:14

How are you doing folks? Were you sore on Sunday go?!

I did week 8 run 3 tonight. Currently RICEing my poor legs, which are protesting in a big way. Need to look after them in preparation for Sport Relief!

5ofus · 14/03/2012 21:44

I'm just back from week 6 run 3 - the 25 min run which I'm pleased to announce I managed all the way through Grin Grin Grin

4.6mph for the running, dropping to 4.4 mph for the last 4 mins. 2.42m in total so 3.87km Grin

About to have a shower then settle down with a bag of popcorn nice healthy banana and watch Twilight latest film on DVD which I haven't seen yet.

Well done on Week 8 Run 3!

golemmings · 14/03/2012 23:13

Yay!!! Well done 5. Great achievement. That's the back of it broken mentally. Hope you enjoy the film. I think I saw the first one and decided I'd rather have my vampires as David Boreanaz and James Marsters!

Nice one bugrit Sorry about your legs though. when is sport relief?

Wasn't too sore after Sunday; got a few grazes on my elbows from crawling through a water/mud filled gravel pit - and my arms were a bit sore. I have a bruise covering half of the top of my right thigh - longer and wider than a hand print - which is quite pretty but otherwise no damage. Haven't been out this week yet - last time I checked (which I think was yesterday but could have been Monday) my shoes were still wet!
I'll go Friday though. Be good to get out. I've missed it!
