New thread everyone!

Rest for me today - just six days to go and I've woken with a sore throat .....

OP posts:
stickylittlefingers · 10/10/2011 16:37

wheely in White Lies' "Farewell to the Fairground" there's a bit where they sing "keep on running, keep keep on running" and that always gets me going! That and Judas Priest (running so fast I'm breaking the law!!! Hmm)

paws great report, and so impressed by the runners who stopped to help you find your rings, that's lovely :) Good tip about the nasal spray, I'm a total snot factory when I'm running. And if you don't let peach keep that spoon in the drawer, I'll be beating you round the head with it you silly thing!

DrNortherner · 10/10/2011 16:46

futurity great race report mate, bad news about dodgy tum. FWIW I got a dodgy tum after eating Lucozade jelly beans during a run - can't face them any more

Muffin welcome my dear and well done on your 10k time. 1hour 8 is a great time to start with, getting under 60mins is a tough target to aim for! How long have you been running?

wheely YES YES YES to wearing running gear to parents eve. I have done this often and never given it a second thought.

debi PMSL at the fanny sparkly boots story. How did you manage to hold it together? Not that it would have been funny to anyone other than us lot on here Grin

rhet what is your Mother upto now? Mine has been strangely quiet for a while but I suspect it's the calm before the storm. Have you visited the daughters of Narc mothers site?

paws loved the race report. At first I was thinking how on earth did she lose her rings?! Now I understand. You poor thing. That's enough to make even Paula lose her mojo I reckon. I did laugh at your 'I shit ye not' comment. Love it! But a huge well done for completing, and with a knackered calf I hope you get some physio on that, sounds like you need it.

It is daunting when you rock up at a race and they all look so elite

Well tonight I have a running club drill session, it's dark, wet and miserable here so not really looking forward to it.

In other news, if anyone has any tips on how to force encourage a reluctant 9 year old to sit the fuck still down and concentrate on his homework for longer than a nanosecond it would be much appreciated. I left him for a minute to boil the kettle and when I came back he was stabbing himself in the arse with a newly sharpened by me pencil. Hmm

MoshiMoshi · 10/10/2011 17:23

Am lurking but no time to join in sadly. Think our new mantra should be Let's Fucking Do This. Nike eat your heart out.

DrNortherner · 10/10/2011 17:25

Lets fucking do this

Anyone care to design a logo? Grin

rhetorician · 10/10/2011 17:32

I think the logo might be very rude - esp if we let fanny anywhere near it. Pissing down here, windy, vile in all respects. Dark all day.

DrNo oh just the usual poor me, I'm just an old woman sitting in the dark routine (pinched that line from DP, actually). Daughters of Narc always sounds like some sci fi/fantasy site, doesn't it? She's just pissed off with not being the centre of attention.

No advice about 9 year olds (but if it helps DD started her day with a tantrum on the stairs because the Wrong Mother went to get her juice Hmm - that emoticon is to indicate raising eyes. Help me Jesus...). Seems we were slightly at cross purposes with nursery over potty training - she just meant that we have to get things started and they will support and follow through. Apparently it's quite frequent for parents just to roll up one day with a bag of clothes and some pants and to say 'we think it's time that s/he was potty trained' Shock. So I am much happier now. We will move our days around at the end of the month to give us a run at it, and they can support it from there.

DrNortherner · 10/10/2011 17:40

Yes it does sound like a sci fi film. Sad thing is she believes she is a sad old woman sitting in the dark, and always will be. I have let go of an awful lot of guilt and I don't see her/phone her as much, and, I don't miss her. To a daughter of a non narc mother I must sound pretty heartless. The truth is, until you allow yourself to detatch and not feel guilt it never gets better It;s hard.

I did lol at 'the wrong mother got my juice' Bless her!

futurity · 10/10/2011 17:42

I can't design a logo but I could do the "let's fucking do this" website? (wonder if the domain is available....) :)

fannybanjo · 10/10/2011 17:55

Ladies I can't keep up anymore!!! I'm on my phone so can't really reply properly however want to congratulate everyone who raced at the weekend - I haven't managed to read all the race reports properly yet but will tonight.

paws oh I am so bloody happy you completed it and your time is great considering you've been ill, calf trouble and loss of your rings (how did that happen!?) - big well done. We drove past Eccleston around 2pm yesterday - I was thinking of you.

Debi your story re Sharpay boots made me laugh out loud! They are awful aren't they?! Grin

Right quicky post as all three girls in bath, then I'm going on an interval run - warm up then 10 mins at fast pace 7.20m/m then 4 min recovery x 3, not looking forward to it!! Last night did 8 miles steady (8.25m/m) - will catch up later!

Pawsnclaws · 10/10/2011 18:17

LOL at "the Wrong Mother". I often feel like The Wrong Mother, or maybe The Wrong Type of Mother and my three have to share just the one inadequate and shambolic mum!

I'm seeing a figure of Jesus in trainers and wearing a garmin and bumbag for the "help me Jesus" website ...is that horribly blasphemous? Not sure about the "YLFD" one, but it says machoman to me, so maybe just a giant knob figure especially to please fanny? I should warn you that "Yes Let's Fucking Do This" Man also hits himself repeatedly on the head before his burst of speed on the treadmill, then retires all bulgy-eyed to the weights room - not something we ladies should aspire to, I feel.

OP posts:
ibbydibby · 10/10/2011 18:31

Dunno about "The Wrong Mother" but I am going to morph into the Mother who doesn't Care about Work Experience in Year 10. Because I am trying soooo hard to get my son's placements sorted (as recommended by the school) but am tempted to say I've done my bit - you sort it (long sorry saga of DS1 writing letters - no reply, phoning people - no reply, email - instant rejection). And it has caused tears (mine) this evening. And I have a work crisis meaning that I am not, after all, going training tonight.

Sorry for me me me

Anyway on with the Lets Fucking Do It theme, I was thinking earlier today (as a break from work crisis), about a Mumsnet 10k. No idea of logisitcs - when/where - name would be on the theme of LFDI - maybe LDI? Hmm. Well it's good to dream. Now to plan the goody bag contents.

sfxmum · 10/10/2011 18:31

paws I do believe a little more than self motivation is involved with that loon Grin
still catchy catchphrase

'wrong mother' yes wrong cup wrong spoon wrong parent wrong door, toddlers are frankly bonkers in their capriciousness, it is like an endless dare to your sanity Grin

mind you 6yr olds not that much saner

you should see dd's To Do list Hmm yes she does does too

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 10/10/2011 19:28

Let's fucking do it - love it - I think I may get a wood engraved plaque of that to hang over my desk!

You are all very lovely and supportive, have virtual Thanks. Thinking of what races I can enter to keep the motivation going

Hello Muffin, glad you had a good Herts 10k, we were probably around the same start pen with your time. My DP did originally say he would do it with me but then decided he had to beat work colleagues/running club possee.

Hilariously, DP and I have just done the Level 3 Shred together, DP for the first time ... even Jillian Michaels was too much for Ironman marathon running rioter battling DP and some strange noises were heard from him including along the lines of oh sweet jesus

MoshiMoshi · 10/10/2011 20:45

Oh paws - do you think you can take a sneaky photo of him on your phone and post on your FB page? Grin

Let's Fucking Do This, laydees. Wink

Pawsnclaws · 10/10/2011 21:47

I could try and take a sneaky video on my phone, then you'll get the full audio benefit too .....

squix · 10/10/2011 22:01

wheely - don't stop me now by queen always gives me a burst of energy.

Great race reports from all the racers this week. Much respect to paws on the second marathon of the year - absolutely brilliant achievement. Also to June - great cause, futurity - hope you are feeling better today, cherry, running and muffin great stuff too.

I seem to have had a big burst of energy over the last few days - 2 runs, 1 swim, 4 rooms cleared out of rubbish (I managed to fill our paper recycling wheely bin from empty from just my study Blush ) - a very productive day working at home today too. DH thinks it's hormonal mood swings. Swinging in a positive direction for a change Smile

Someone was asking up thread about how I paced my run on Saturday (busy thread since then so I can't remember who it was) but I am really reliant on the Garmin to help me pace - I find I am really rubbish at equating effort to pace. I have a heart monitor but don't normally run with one - might do so out of interest - just to see what it throws up.

I have a recurring running dream .......I dream I am running so fast I start to glide then fly (starts to warble ' I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch they sky, .....)

MoshiMoshi · 10/10/2011 22:23

Completely off topic (as in it is running-related!) - what do we think of these ladies? I can't decide whether I like them or not. I also think they might add width to thighs which is a definite no no.

MoshiMoshi · 10/10/2011 22:24

I have just seen the price. They are a definite no no. Ridiculous.

sfxmum · 10/10/2011 22:24

Wheely makes me run and sometimes sing along as I go
and

and

current favourite

apologies for indulgence Grin

sfxmum · 10/10/2011 22:25

no no step away from those

sfxmum · 10/10/2011 22:26

but they make nice jackets

Wheelybug · 10/10/2011 22:29

Thanks for all the suggestions of music - squix 'Don't stop me now' is on there already and peach that's the one I was thinking of, thank you. Will check out all other recs. However, after trying to get in itunes, my computer is so full of photos it is now at full capacity so Ican't download anything. I've backed up to extrernal hard drive but wanted to be doubly safe and put them on CD before Ideleted them. But there's a peppa pig dvd wedge in my cd drive..... sigh.

Am having great visions of paws surreptitously videoing in the gym....

squix - sounds like you've been busy - is your ankle feeling fine now ? HOw are you feeling about GSR ? I keep getitng the countdown facebook updates from BUPA. Can't decide if I'm excited or scared - a bit of both I think !

Cherry - glad dh got his come-uppance with shred. I meant to say earlier but I ran an 8.2 miler (bizarre distance !) 'with' dh in March. It still bugs me that, despite the fact I trained hard and he did virtually nothing and has health issues,he still beat me by 3 minutes. We're both doing GSR in a few weeks and his training has consisted of 1 run a week, not yet done 10 miles and is currently saying he'll run with me but I bet he still takes off and beats me. Grrrrrr.

Pawsnclaws · 10/10/2011 22:31

Nooooooo Moshi! The invisible model has a geometrically patterned camel's hoof in those!

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 10/10/2011 22:31

Oh no moshi - step away... Anyway its running gear day at Lidl on Thursday -what do you need Sweaty Betty for Grin.

SFX - thanks, will have a listen....

orangehead · 10/10/2011 22:32

Not fully caught up yet. Loving the new mantra.
My word you ladies have babies as fast a you run. If it was not for intervention (emergency section for ds1 and ds2 was pulled out with forceps whilst I was unconscious) I truely think I may well still be in labour now with them.
Well done futurity, Running and june.

Well done cherry too and sorry about the kitchen. Much damage?
Welcome muffin
Well done paws glad you found your rings. I lost my wedding ring down a mcdonalds toilet.
Did my first run today after a week rest. Did 5k and it was great. My foot and leg felt fine too. That was this morning. Then about 3pm my foot starts hurting again and my groin painfully and difficulty lifting my leg up. Not impressesd at all and dont really know what to do.
Will try and finish off catching up tomorrow.

stickylittlefingers · 10/10/2011 22:34

I'm a little hypnotised by that little red bow on the front of Moshi's new pants. You'd think there'd be some optical illusion created by running in them (or you'd just look like a chef on the run with a white jacket on top!)
