New thread everyone!

Rest for me today - just six days to go and I've woken with a sore throat .....

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 14/10/2011 22:53

Oh yeah and the bloody kids didn't eat the apple. Next time, I'm just going to deep fry Stork.

squix · 14/10/2011 23:08

Good luck to rhet, moshi, sticky and piff - this weekends racers. I hope you find your sock rhet

I can't believe how quickly this thread has gone - over 900 posts already.

wheely curse of the GSR struck again this week Sad I tripped down some steps at work ( pride was the thing that was most hurt) I've done something to my arm - its not sore - but it doesn't feel right. I went out on Thursday for a steady 4 miles and it felt ok so I'll still stick to my planned LSR tomorrow and see how it feels.

Just back from a lovely evening out with 2 of DH's sisters and their families so heading off to bed - night, night

stickylittlefingers · 15/10/2011 08:07

rhet best of luck today, hope all goes well (though sounds like you are more out for a jolly than full of furrowed brow earnestness... unless you can persuade your friend to FDT Wink)

And best of luck tomorrow moshi and piff. I will most definitely be applying the LFDT to the hills (especially the one near the start. You don't expect to find Everest just outside of Richmond, but it seems to be there, despite what the maps say).

Best of luck also to Fanny with the colouring in. Sounds very technical. Have you seen the recipe of the week down the side - all those apple crumble calories with a nice wedge of marzipan too Grin sounds just up your street.

I have an enforced morning in cos the bloody washing machine went wrong again (with all my nasty muddy kit inside it. Wasn't impressed having to wash that in the bath). Maybe a nice apple strudel (bonkers that will be a crisp apple strudel, maybe not preceded with schnitzel with noodle)

rhetorician · 15/10/2011 08:35

sticky you actually know the friend and she won't need any persuading...(clue: very tall, from Cork). Am really nervous and didn't sleep well. Time is ticking on, must dress family and transfer to car...

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 15/10/2011 10:07

Lovely lovely run this morning, 3 miles along a track through fields in bright crisp sunshine with mist floating up from fields.
Good prep for meeting up with Nct bods later on which promises to be a cake fest( somewhat competitive baking I find, it's a mini version of the great British bake off)

orangehead · 15/10/2011 10:24

Thats weird Fanny all last night I could not stop singing 'I need a dollar, dollar, a dollar is all I need'
squix oh no. Hope you arm ok.
Sound of music, not seen that in ages. The boys would die if put that on. I do love my boys but someone to watch musicals with would be nice Grin. Although saying that they really want to watch the phatom, they like the music and are very interseted in the story line. But I think its a bit dark/scary for them yet.
I saw a guy running last night, he had running gear on so persume he was not just running for the bus or something, he had a fag hanging out of his mouth whilst running Hmm.
Did parkrun this morning 31 mins 10 secs, so a bit slower but on af and also on wine last night, excuses excuses.
Still not caught up with yesterday, will do after my bath. Sat here at the moment eating the boys chocolate coins Blush, think I might have to go and buy some more

fannybanjo · 15/10/2011 10:25

squix hope your arm is ok. Do you think you've sprained it?

rhet you'll no doubt be warning up at this moment but hope you found missing sock.

Moshifarah you most certainly educate yourself, you read a hell of a lot of running books - what's been your favourite? Hope you're feeling better and not too nervous about tomorrow.

sticky don't talk to me about apple crumble.... Sad. I'm ill again this morning. Bloody cramps. I'm so fed up. I eat well, exercise, don't smoke, drink water, very little alcohol but I feel about 120 years old at the moment. I do start to worry as my dad started with bouts of small illnesses before his heart attack.

cherry very Envy of your lovely crisp morning run. Makes you appreciate small things when you can't do them! Grin at NCT Bake Off. Bet you're measuring out flour as I type.

Still no running for me. That's all.

Themasterandmargaritas · 15/10/2011 10:49

Moshifarah, good luck for tomorrow! Go chick Wheely's bro.

Good luck Rhet and piff and sticky as well. Rhet I quite often have sock angst. The wrong sock affects my performance considerably Wink.

Such domestic goddesses on this thread, with all your baking and ironing this week. I have No Idea what those two things are. Isn't there an ironing and baking fairy? Perhaps one who can't quite understand that not all trousers, including jeans have creases down the front and that underpants really don't need to be ironed.

The short rains have just started here, which means, mud, mud, potholes, stupid driving, traffic jams, storm headaches and sweaty runs in between the downpours. So I've only been out once and only did 7k today nothing to do with having consumed a bottle of wine last night. LSR tomorrow, I will try for 20k.

Right I'm off to eat my fish and chips, and I confess to being quite relieved that shittergate passed me by.

peachsmuggler · 15/10/2011 10:59

No shitgate here, but pukegate!!! Felt fine this morning, especially since DD very kindly didn't get up till 9am! Had two slices of fruity toast then felt decidedly weird. Had to run for the toilet and absolutely destroyed the porcelain when I got there. Even managed to splatter the walls Blush. after 4 or 5 pikes am now lying on sofa. Uurrgghh. Doesn't feel like a bug, so I won't blame you fanny Wink. Need to be well today as looking after DD while DP paints her room (pink!).

Sorry you're feeling rough again fanny. do you think maybe you didn't recover properly from your bug the other day? Cannot be believe your ingrates kids not eating the crumble!!!

Hope the arm is ok squix.

Enjoy the chish n fips master!!

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 15/10/2011 12:23

Fanny, I made my choc chip cookies last night and doubled the quantities for dp to take some to work tonight as he's on nights. Oh and made a sausage lentil casserole last night too

DrNortherner · 15/10/2011 13:06

Hi guys, just a quickie to say good luck to our racers this weekend. Look forward to catching up with your reports tomorrow Smile

squix · 15/10/2011 13:32

This domestic goddess thing is catching - DH is making orange souffle !

peach - hope you feel better soon - and your face doesn't look too much like Envy

Arm still feels weird - the best way to describe it is like when you get an injection before you go on holiday to a far away place and your arm feels a bit sore and achey for a few hours. Didn't get any better or worse on my LverySR this morning (11 miles, 11 min miles - note to self not a good idea to drink prosecco night before a long run)

orangehead · 15/10/2011 13:34

Finally caught up Smile
Paws I am sorry for your loss.
Fanny I seem to follow the same pattern train well then ill, train well then ill. It always seems to be after a few weeks of includng intervals, don't know if its just sods law. Or pushing a bit too much.
I think they just one chubby girl in ds2 class and none in ds1 class. Both of mine are slender but ds2 is very skinny he even has a six pack. I asked him the other day how he manages to have a six pack he said its because he can do things with his tummy most people cant do Smile. He means (not sure how to describe it) like what belly dancers do, like a wave effect if that makes sense. He actually has a huge appetite but very active the tics properly help Smile.
Don't even get me on chocolate cereals, chocolate is for treats not for meals. I just don' get them.

orangehead · 15/10/2011 13:35

oh yes, sorry your ill Fanny, that does not sound fun. Hope you feeling better soon.

Themasterandmargaritas · 15/10/2011 14:59

Peachy Sad poor you. I hope you are feeling better. Is it because you is all squished up inside like?

Squix, I had something similar sometime back and the doc said it was a muscle strain he gave me paracetamol with a muscle relaxant in it and that made it go. Can you get something like that over the counter? Mine was caused by dog walking pumping my arms too hard during my hill training.

C'mon fanny, man up. There's nothing wrong with you. A 20km run'll sort you out. Wink

And because I am competitive inspired by all your domestic goddessery I have just pulled a batch of scones made by my own fair hands, out of the (electric) oven. Just in the nick of time as the power has gone off. Smile

MoshiMoshi · 15/10/2011 15:32

Get well soon, peachy. Tis nothing worse than to be ill when preggers. Sad

With all this talk I am feeling like I ought to turn into the Domestic Goddess DH has always wanted me to be and might have a go at it after tomorrow...

stickylittlefingers · 15/10/2011 15:44

Peachy and Fanny I'm sending you a virtual hair stroke (plus a bucket and a flannel). Seems very unfair on Fanny seeing as she'd got shot of it AND did all that cleaning (do you think you might be allergic to cleaning? I might have a touch of that myself Wink)

Squix that sounds weird with your arm. Hope it gets well soon too.

orange DD1 can do that weird thing with her stomach too. She loves to do it because it really weirds me out Hmm - they must have stomach muscles of iron! Mind you, I can wiggle my ears, so I do have some outlandish muscle control Grin

Cherry we (me and DD1) made chocolate chip cookies for us to take on her school trip. Then me and DP wolfed the rest of them last night watching all that telly (HIGNFY, WILTY, QI - then I fell asleep.) DDs were most put out with us this morning! Naughty Parents.

Such a lovely day here today, I hope it's the same tomorrow. DP working, so we went for a muddy walk in the woods and then watched our local private school play rugby (DD1 already showing an alarming preference for posh boys with floppy hairdos...) So much better than the world cup!

FairyBasslet · 15/10/2011 16:11

What a beautiful day here for running. Skipped Parkrun this morning as DH was off to Amsterdam for a couple of nights and it would have been too tight for me to get back in time for him to catch his train.

Anyway, managed to use kiddy classes and creche to the full at the gym while I went for a 5.5k trail run round the golf course, through wooded areas, along the edge of fields, and down the side of the golf course. I paid not a jot of interest to time, just enjoyed the fresh air, blue sky and scenery. Perfect. Reminded me why I enjoy running. I think I've become too fixated on time recently and continually set myself up for disappointment. If I just run for enjoyment then all is well again.

Hope all the illies are all on the mend now. I remember throwing up when 36 weeks with DS - awful.

Will be joining in the domestic godessery tomorrow as DD1 has requested that we spend the day planting bulbs in the garden and baking cakes and cookies.

Bumply · 15/10/2011 18:43

Finally caught up on this thread.
Last Sunday I repeated the first 5 km run I'd ever done and managed to shave 4 mins off my time . \o/ just over 40 mins on very hilly route partially round arthurs seat.
Today I did a flatter route and tried doing intervals but hated it. In the gym you know how you're doing on the treadmill and how long to go etc plus I have my PT pushing me on. Out in the real world I start off too fast , feel like I'm dying and end up walking during recovery which feels like cheating. Think I need to make the intervals shorter. 400/200m too much.
Back home I had an episode of shitgate. I've either got a bit of a bug or my stomach is objecting to my recent switch to high protein diet. I normally eat FAR too much carbs.
Have yet to experience all this keep fit and running giving me more energy in the rest of my life. Feel like I could got to bed now!

Hope rhet had a good race and good luck and health to tomorrows racers. LFDT!

Pawsnclaws · 15/10/2011 19:10

Just checking in to see if any news from rhet?

Good luck for tomorrow all our lovely racers. Let's hope we get another cool sunny day. Oh and commiserations to all our runners with bugs, hope you feel on the mend soon.

Spent today helping at a bowling/cinema party for 13 children - 11 boys and 2 girls. I'm shattered and just about to have a nice cup of tea, then I'm tempted to turn in to bed. Pathetic!

OP posts:
StrangewaysHereICome · 15/10/2011 20:21

Good luck to peeps racing tomorrow, and I hope Rhet got on fabulously.

Well shitgate has struck here too Sad. Felt rough yesterday and slept very badly but seem to have shaken it off today. Still might race tomorrow if I feel okay. I have a plan to race and take the children swimming straight after, then get DD1 to a birthday party and have the other two while DH gets his bike ride in. The race is a hilly off road 10k ish which I did a couple of years ago and was incredibly painful great fun Grin But it all depends on how I feel and whether my plan comes together Hmm.

I hope everyone who is feeling rough is on the mend now. Peachy make sure you don't get dehydrated, hope you feel better soon.

peachsmuggler · 15/10/2011 20:27

Well done on the LSR squix, glad the arm isn't any worse!

bumply, I agree, intervals much easier to guagr on treadmill, but once you get the feel for pace, it is easier to translate to outdoor work.

good work on the park run orange, do you feel addicted.

Your run sounds perfect fairy, one for the memory bank when others aren't so easy!

Look at us, all trying to out-bake each other!!! Moshi, I think you have enough on your plate love, get yourself down to Patisserie Valerie, DH will never know!!!

Thanks for the well wishes, no more spewing thank god. I think you are right master, probably a squished stomach thing.

Hope you are ok fanny

Now where is that Rhet...

peachsmuggler · 15/10/2011 20:59

What is it with shitgate! Is it possible to pass bugs in cyberspace??? Hope you are ok for tomorrow strangeways, that sounds like a pretty full on day, even without a race!!!

Wheelybug · 15/10/2011 21:04

What is it with all this domestic goddestry ? I used to do a lot of baking 'n' stuff but hardly any now.

Squix -sorry to hear about your arm. Hope it sorts itself out. Although you don't really need your arm for running I think it would still be v. offputting to have a bad arm !

Peach - glad the pukegate didn't come to much. I had some v. wierd stomach things late on with dd2.. mind you I did puke until 36 weeks with her so it may just have been that

Rhet - where are you ??? Hope all went ok today,

I agree on the treadmill and intervals - in fact I went to the gym today and did intervals for the first time since doing my ankle in as its (touches wood ,buys lucky heather etc) feeling so muhc better this week. Did shorter than normal but did 10x 2 mins fast, 1 min recovery. Fitted in just nicely before dd1's swimming lesson first thing. Then we took both dds to see the Lion King at the cinema. Was disappointed not to see masters running along in the background Grin.

Anyway, final good lucks for tomoz. Look forward to hearing all about it !

rhetorician · 15/10/2011 21:06

sorry about all the puking! am here, am knackered, and not a little disappointed, really. Also have killer headache. Did run in 1.03, when I was secretly hoping for sub 1 hour - my 'friend' did it in about 55 mins Angry. But she did make us lunch after, so I forgive her (sort of). It was actually quite hilly (for Kildare!) and a lovely route. But I have decided that I am sick of being slow...just had takeaway veg curry, and a beer and am reappraising my training (will have to do this in a few weeks anyway) - I think easy, plus LSR, plus hills, plus intervals should (eventually) help - I've only been doing the latter for a couple of weeks.

Good luck to all tomorrow's racers - full report in the morning.
