New thread everyone!

Rest for me today - just six days to go and I've woken with a sore throat .....

OP posts:
stickylittlefingers · 15/10/2011 21:15

oh rhet, remember to keep a bit of perspective. You did 12 miles in two hours not so long ago. And your so-called (loving the idea of her as your evil nemesis) friend is quite a bit taller than you Wink. 1.03 is not to be sniffed at. I know you can do faster, but it's still another good 10k chalked up. Looking forward to the full report!

DP is stressed as anything, so I'm not at all sure tomorrow is happening. So definitely sure 1.03 10k is better than no 10k.

orangehead · 15/10/2011 21:24

Glad you feeling better Peachs. Yes def addicted Smile.
Well done Rhet, your not slow you beat me on 10k (ok that might not be hard to do), but good time for a hilly route. But yes the hills and intervals will help.
Well I dont know what going on with us all at the moment. I started with a kller headache at lunch then feeling really sick and was retching down the loo for a while but wasn't sick in the end. Sickness now gone but still have headache although better and feel very weak. I think we need a sick bay and soe hot male nurses to make us all feel better Grin

rhetorician · 15/10/2011 21:44

can I put in special request for lissome female nurse? have killer headache too, but I think it's dehydration (of which more tomorrow in report), no puking thank god

sticky I hope that you manage to get out for the 10k - am going to try and run target paces a bit better a la Jack Daniels (which I always think of as rye whiskey even though I know he's a coach). I'm going to need to make my runs count when there are fewer of them

peachsmuggler · 15/10/2011 21:50

Awww Rhet honey, am sure tomorrow you'll feel differently about the race. You said yourself that you didn't train specifically for a 10k and it was hilly. I can imagine it is really annoying to be beaten by a arch enemy friend, who hasn't done much training, that's the kind of thing that gets to me too, but think about you and your race. Well done, and enjoy your evening!

Good lord orange, is no-one safe!!! Hope it doesn't come to anything!

Wheely, puking up to 36 weeks. Oof!!! Is the Lion King out again cos it's in 3D? And if so was DD2 happy to wear the glasses? I think my DD would live the film, but not keep on the specs.

orangehead · 15/10/2011 21:54

Smile I did think after I typed it maybe I should include a female one for you

Wheelybug · 15/10/2011 22:01

Aw rhet - I am sure a hilly 63 min 10K would result in a sub 60 min flat one. And as you said you didn't train for it. Don't beat yourself up about it.

peach - it is out because they've bought it out in 3D but they're also showing it in 2D. We saw the 2D version because of DD2 (we thought her sitting still was enough to worry about let alone the glasses) and DH can't see in 3D either (can't see out of one of his eyes properly or something ?!). And even I managed to sit still for that long (I am not a good cinema going - don't think I've been for almost 3 years).

Hope you're ok tomorrowsticky and get to do the race. Hope you're feeling better too orange.

futurity · 15/10/2011 22:11

Popping in to say well done Rhet ..a hilly 10k is tough but you still did it in a respectable time...hope your headache subsides.

No time to post anymore...DS1 is at a sleepover but I've just had a call that he is a bit homesick...bless! Not sure if he is going to stay or come home....difficult one!

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 15/10/2011 22:13

Rhet your time with hills sounds great - mine last week for a flattish 10k was 5 mins slower than you. Boo to fast friends. They're unlucky because they don't get to spend as long running!

Night all, have to finish my trashy John Grisham thriller now

peachsmuggler · 15/10/2011 22:33

Aww bless your DS futurity, how old is he?

Slightly worried that DD's first sleepover experience will be when I am in labour in a few weeks. So difficult as am basically lining up bunch of friends who can each do certain days, but obviously as don't know when it'll all kick off, can't really prepare her as don't know who she'll be going to or whether it will be overnight. Would like to order a short labour beginning early morning and ending early afternoon with enough time to get DD to lively friend's house with plenty of time to spare. Guess it doesn't work like that... Smile

ooh that sounds great Wheely. Might take DD in half term. It's weird, she's only been at playgroup a few weeks I feel slightly confused about what I'm going to do with her for a whole week on my own!!!

futurity · 15/10/2011 22:45

He is 9 1/2 but only stayed away from home 3 times..once when he was 6 and was alright ...once with his brother and he had a little wobble ..and then earlier this year on school residential where he had a bigger wobble! Bless him!

Apparently all quiet now and they've gone to sleep so fingers crossed.

I want him to stay so he feels good about himself that, yes he got upset but he still got through it.

When DS2 went on his first sleepover last year (he was 5 3/4) he stayed up longer than the others and ended up watching quiz shows at 11.30pm with the mum!

peachsmuggler · 15/10/2011 22:50

Aww that's good. Like you say, am sure in the morning he'll feel proud of himself and more confident for next time. DS2 sounds hilarious!! Grin

squix · 15/10/2011 23:30

rhet - well done, 63 mins with hills, not to be sniffed at. Hope your headache feels better ( or the nurse you ordered turns up)

bumply - good going round Arthur's seat - its very hilly round there too.

masters thanks for the tip about the arm medicine - I had a look when I was out shopping and found a specific thing for joint and muscle pain and it seems to be working so far.

Hope all those with funny tummys are feeling better too

squix · 15/10/2011 23:31

Also meant to say hope DS has a good night futurity

DebiTheScot · 16/10/2011 00:48

Have tried to catch up but only got to Fri lunchtime. Mind you I have been out of the country all day. Got up at 5am and will probably get to bed at about 2am. (on coach at moment) So can someone please make me cake as I have to go out for at least a short cycle and run tomorrow.

My comments on what I've read so far- kids bike sizes are wheel size but frame size can vary so you need to try them on really. The 3 wheel micro scooters are worth every penny. My parents and inlaws are very normal and boring compared to some of yours and I'm suddenly more grateful for them! June I confessed a while ago to my postnatal thread that I was cheating on them with this thread.

futurity · 16/10/2011 07:57

peach apparently ds2 just wasn't tired so my friend, the mum, decided he needed some chill out time watching tv so they sat there watching "the million pound drop" I think it was...he sat there answering all the questions as happy as larry!

Well no phone call in the night do hopefully (fingers crossed) DS1 was ok in the end!

fannybanjo · 16/10/2011 08:27

Very quick one to say good luck to everyone running today.

Well done rhet and don't be daft re your time.

I'm feeling horrendous, been up all night with stomach cramps. Sad DH started with trots too. Bloody nightmare.

Themasterandmargaritas · 16/10/2011 09:27

It won't let me post my huge post so have started a new thread here.

MoshiMoshi · 16/10/2011 13:14

Report later. Wheels fell off at 20M and crawled in at 3:15:25 Garmin time. These marathons take some getting used to!

Hatwoman · 16/10/2011 16:02

crawled in at 3.15?? wow moshi. that's a fantastic time - you really are our speed merchant.

StrangewaysHereICome · 16/10/2011 17:51

oops just fainted at Moshi's time - fantastic well done! I dreeeeeam of one day getting a sub 4 marathon, but I don't think I could ever get anywhere near 3.15 so well done. Those last 6 miles must have been tough.

I'll catch up with the rest of the thread later, just to report that my plan did come together in true A- team fashion. I did the off road hilly 10k in 51:10 garmin time, a full 6 minutes quicker than when I did the same course 3 years ago Shock. I am not sure how I managed that! The only spanner in the works is that it didn't measure anywhere near 10k and came in at 5.6 miles. But I don't care it's nice to know that I have managed to speed up over the years Smile.

Piffpaffpoff · 16/10/2011 22:08

Hi all, just popping in with my race report from today's Aviemore 10k. It was brilliant! Really lovely day and a lovely scenic course past a loch and through a forest. My goal was to run the whole thing with no stops, which I've never managed before in the other 10ks I've done. And I did it!!!! I'm so pleased. I was fine til the last mile and then I struggled for half a mile. Then I could hear the PA from the finish and that perked me up and I even managed a wee sprint finish! I think I have done around 1.12 but the official results aren't up yet. That is a PB! So all in all a good day. And I'll be back next year to get it under 1.10 I hope.

DebiTheScot · 16/10/2011 22:23

strangeways well done on the 10k, gerat time. Esp off road. Your Garmin might be lying to you as they're not nearly so accurate in woods and twisty trails.

Well done piffpaffpoff too Smile

Pawsnclaws · 16/10/2011 22:26

Well done piff sounds like a fabulous course, and a great experience all round.

There's a new thread btw, this one was running out of space.
