New thread everyone!

Rest for me today - just six days to go and I've woken with a sore throat .....

OP posts:
DebiTheScot · 03/10/2011 18:29

You're right Rhet you do more than enough miles to replace 1 normal run with lovely intervals. I was just offering you an excuse Grin

Are we serious about thunder run? I do actually want to think soon about next years events as I keep hearing about things I fancy plus I want to do some of the same ones as I've done this year. But I can't do them all unless I want to end up divorced and poor!

DrNortherner · 03/10/2011 18:33

I'm serious. Perhaps we need to start a different thread, purely for thunder run, or is it too soon?

Pawsnclaws · 03/10/2011 18:41

I think that's right about children and life experiences, yours are young yet Moshi and I would imagine they will settle and make friends very quickly. I can see the school issue is a worry, but better to make the move now than in a couple of years? And you'll be able to make so many new running friends I bet you won't spare us a thought (sob .....)

June do you mean supplementing as in vitamins etc? I take Berocca and Feroglobin at the moment, I suspect I may be rattling at the start of the marathon if I take any more! I really try and eat healthily but I do worry I might be missing stuff as I avoid wheat/gluten and dairy, plus no red meat.

Rhet the reason I asked is in relation to a friend of DH's. He is in a civil partnership and moved to the US to be with his partner, who moved for work (partner is actually a well-known figure, but I won't name drop!) DH had an email from him to say he wasn't working but enjoying being a househusband as he couldn't work; we were really surprised as he had a great career here. We assumed it was his choice but now you mention it I wonder if the visa issue was a factor.

Master those Kenyans, eh? I read a really interesting article once about how astonishingly successful their long distance runners are, and it concluded it was all down to training and team work not "natural" ability.

Pawsnclaws · 03/10/2011 18:42

Oh and DrN I'm serious about the thunderthighs run. I'm ideally qualified for that. No really, it sounds good - when do they normally release the date for the next year?

OP posts:
futurity · 03/10/2011 18:59

Found the dates on here: www.provelosupport.co.uk/?p=954 and apparently they open places sometime this month. (not that I was looking or anything!)

Copied and pasted list again as Pinkglow think you forgot to add your name to your event.

Moshi am v Sad that you have removed name from London Marathon. You always come across as so sensible sounding in your posts, am sure you will make the right decision for you and your family. As Master (I think) has already said, your DCs are young enough for it to be a brilliant experience.

Actually just popped in to ask if anyone has seen/applied for the Olympic Stadium 5 mile run in March 2012. here

Thanks for comments re yesterday's race. Debi yes please will join you on injury bench.

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/10/2011 19:45

Grin at thunder thighs run. I'm overly qualified too.

Awww Moshi .

Quenelle I forgot to say congratulations. Smile I hope it's not too catching.

Paws the Kenyans totally have some kind of genetic advantage it's apparent when a small seven year old child goes faster up the road than I can. At least that's what I tell myself. Grin

Wiifitmama · 03/10/2011 20:02

Wow! That Olympic stadium run looks amazing! Thanks for posting a link. I just entered the ballot! I have only run 5k before but I am sure I could train to run 8.

futurity · 03/10/2011 20:03

I've entered as well ...would LOVE to do it...but don't have much luck in ballots Wink

ibbydibby · 03/10/2011 20:06

Well that's 3 of us trying for the ballot. I only happened upon it by chance while looking at website of my mum's (non-London) local paper.

Wheelybug · 03/10/2011 20:10

I've entered too and I put dh in. Worth a punt !

futurity · 03/10/2011 20:14

My non running DH wants to enter ...don't think he has yet ...I said I would have a major strop if he got a place and I didn't !

fannybanjo · 03/10/2011 20:16

moshi you know what kiddo, there's worse things you could be arguing over. Wink You will make the best of anything, it's in your nature (yes I can gather that even just by chatting to you on here!). The worst that can happen is that you spend a few years living in California, running up killer hills and eating too much chowder on Fishermans Wharf.... Grin It's probably a huge shock at the moment and such a lot to take on board but what will be will be and surely your DH wouldn't take his family half way around the world if he didn't think it would work out. When are you thinking of moving there? Boston Marathon next year for you then? You'll certainly get in with your times!

backwardpossom · 03/10/2011 20:19

I've entered, too! No chance, but one can dream Grin

Heh!

DebiTheScot · 03/10/2011 20:22

Boo the Olympic run is the day after we fly to New Zealand.

Pawsnclaws · 03/10/2011 20:28

Ooh yes Boston would be a dream! What a great idea.

Have entered the ballot for the Stadium run. I should warn you all that I'm the Kiss of Death for any form of ballot and that even by associating with me on this thread you're all doomed to failure.

fanny are you in Chester? Do you know the Marathon route at all? Sounds quite rural.

OP posts:
rhetorician · 03/10/2011 20:44

I have also entered the ballot! (do you think that the answers to 'why you want to run?' are significant? I hope not!) I grew up on the other side of the river to this, and spent many happy weekends poking about in ponds in the Lea Valley...

there'll be celebs! so cool. I had to use my mum's address as it wouldn't accept that I don't have a postcode...

fannybanjo · 03/10/2011 20:48

Paws yes I am about 6 miles from Chester City Centre but opposite side to where you are running however I know route pretty well as I used to live in North Wales, it is rural and very lovely, not too hilly (from memory but I have never ran it so cannot be 100%) and lovely villages to run through. Eccleston is my favourite village - it is entirely owned by Duke of Westminster and it's stunning. How are you feeling about it at the moment, you up for it?

Wheelybug · 03/10/2011 20:49

rhet - I wondered that too, especially as my reasons will be very much the same as 99% of the people I expect ! I did look at 'how the ballot works' or something and it did say it was completely random so not sure why they are asking ??

Wiifitmama · 03/10/2011 20:51

I think that they will use the answers only if you are successful in the ballot. I don't think it is part of the selection.

Pawsnclaws · 03/10/2011 21:02

It does sound a really nice route, not nearly as hilly as last marathon I did. I'm not 100% if I'm honest, sore throat better tonight but I just have the feeling I haven't shaken the lurgy off. Am just going to treat it as a pleasant country trot and not stress too much about the end result.

OP posts:
runnerstipple · 03/10/2011 21:04

Thanks ibbydibby for the link, I've entered too. Fingers crossed.

fannybanjo · 03/10/2011 21:06

No running since LSR on Saturday for me, I am noticing that a recovery run doesn't do me ANY favours whatsoever so missing them out, I am dithering over going out early tomorrow morning for 5/6 miler with intervals but it is so bloody dark at 6am, I am too scared! I am going to search for a 10K race for my friend and I to do over next few weeks, I am focusing on long distance too much and think getting some good speedy races in will help. I have no idea what my 10k time would be, expect it to be around 47 mins.... Hmm

DH's is 40 today, VERY busy weekend so been out with DD3 (other 2 in school) or lunch then Nandos with all 3 DDs for tea - my stomach is bloated to hell with Peri Peri shite. Detox tomorrow. DH currently sat in Living Room engrossed in Championship Retriever Trials DVD I bought him! Rock on being 40!!
