The Couch to 5k 2011 - Part 3 : Keep Holding My Hand So We Don’t get Separated!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/07/2011 23:07

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear and the music we listen to! New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

If we stick together we will enjoy success, I thought song lyrics were appropriate so in the words of Gwen Stefani.. Grin

Run, running all the time
Running to the future
With you right by my side
Me, I'm the one you chose
Out of all the people
You wanted me the most

Running, running, as fast as we can
As fast as we can
Do you think you'll make it?
Do you think we'll make it?
We're running, keep holding my hand
It's so we don't get separated

Be, be the one I need
Be the one I trust most
Don't stop inspiring me...

Good luck everyone x
Wine

Happy Birthday Sybil! <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=deborah+lippmann+happy+birthday&um=1&hl=en&safe=active&client=firefox-a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&channel=s&biw=1024&bih=407&tbm=isch&tbnid=XcrSiqqx-kzevM:&imgrefurl=addictedtoallthingspretty.onsugar.com/Deborah-Lippmann-Happy-Birthday-8610078&docid=8dDyqkW6HFZblM&w=550&h=413&ei=9AJ1TqTWCKa60QXdufiXCA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=587&vpy=99&dur=449&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=159&ty=139&page=1&tbnh=98&tbnw=139&start=0&ndsp=14&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">This is for you!

BearGryllsBra · 17/09/2011 21:47

Well done on the running everyone but ..................

SHRIEKKKKKK! to Jelli's split nail! I had a dream about that happening to my thumb nail the other night, it split right down the middle in two halves and was vomiticious and I was crying even when I woke up. It was like one of those omg I'm NAKED or wobbly tooth dreams. You will just have to keep on painting the other nine and put a plaster over the offensive one for the time being. That is the plantar fasciitis of nails. My sympathies are with you.

Well done Kristina, keep going you will be running 30mins before you know it. Hello didl, I don't think we've met - it must've been while I was AWOL.

Linzer great news about the London trip, plenty of opportunities to shop for nail varnish get your gait analysed, and some new clothes and stuff.

Sybil I've got I Lilly Love You on :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/09/2011 12:51

Belated Happy Birthday to Sybil xx

I am running at 7pm when I take DS to swimming club, please send me positive vibes. Weirdly I feel nervous about it. Whatever I achieve will be a miracle Blush

But Ive just done Stage 2 Level 1 as posted on the other thread. All I can say is O.M.G. possibly combined with a weary

You can do it Pistey, we are right behind you! And so are the coyotes. And the mad axe cyclist mwahahahahaha Grin

My nails are twinklicious sweaty thanks to you :)

GO PISTEY! Run like the wind! says lazybones from the comfort of her sofa. To be fair, I'm not well today cough cough.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/09/2011 19:23

I've beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeenn!
Not been since I ran in the shadow of the hurricane in NY, which is a good while ago Blush

That day was so weird - the whole of Manhatten was shutting and we had to get it done by 11am, DD and I ran a section of the road - but it was like running in a procession! Loved it though.

Well the first song that came on was I don't feel like dancing and I thought of little Sweaty being chased by her coyotes, and I did then it was Mr Blue Sky which was what I played in an ironic way in Central Park, third was Fat Bottomed Girls - my own personal anthem, then I had Single Ladies which Bear reminds me of what you said about your arse you. Grin I was among friends and much cheered.

I only did 20 mins but hey, that is not bad. So next time on Wednesday. But I am keen to go back outside, with a view to restarting the programme at some point soon.

Hope you feel better Bear, look at your twinklicious nails to make you feel jolly.
Jelli - sorry about you nail Sad
didldidi & KristinaM - you really will get there!
Linzer - if you have any spare time in London Town - let's do coffee and nail varnish shopping!!
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes - hope you are feeling better now.
mollycuddles - give us a link to your thread - I can't see it either..
sybil - hope you had a great day yesterday with lots of cake.

I've done Stage 2 Day 1 Shred AND run today. Go me!

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 18/09/2011 19:57

Yay Pistey, well done you! Grin And no talk of "only 20 minutes" either; just think back to those days when even one minute was a struggle and 20 seemed like an unachievable dream. Coffee and nail varnish shopping would be lovely btw; I shall PM you. Smile

Envy of your twinklicious nails, Bear. I am applying Vivid Violet as I type - well, almost; am just waiting for the base coat (courtesy of one of my No. 7 vouchers) to dry.

Happy belated birthday, sybil!

Well done on your run, Kristina. I couldn't imagine ever being able to run for 30 minutes when I started, but somehow you find that you can run for five minutes, and then for eight, and then for ten... and eventually you're able to run for 30 minutes, as impossible as it seemed at the beginning. You can do it; we've all been there!

Well, I had good intentions about going out for a run today but ended up phoning it in, as Jillian would say. Rain is forecast for tomorrow and Tuesday, so I shall see how heavy it is before I decide whether to go out or not - I know, I'm such a fair-weather runner. The problem is that the hood on my running jacket doesn't stay up. I must continue my search for a purple beanie. Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/09/2011 19:59

I need a running jacket, hmm.

Didn't go out tonight, been out all day, by the time we had done the DCs some supper and done homework it was dark, I have slipped back to couch potato mode alarmingly easily. I will go tomorrow.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/09/2011 20:13

Linzer - please do! this is what you need

WhoKnows - I loved running in the dark, it made me invisible!

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 18/09/2011 21:02

Love the colour, Pistey - it matches my newly painted nails. Grin Just wondering whether slightly sloughy might look slightly silly on me, as if I've bought a size too big. Or maybe I'm just not cool enough to wear that type of headgear. Grin

It's worrying how quickly you can slip back into couch potato mode, isn't it WhoKnows? Mind you, I think you deserve to take it easy for a few days after your bug. I, OTOH, have no such excuses. Blush

BearGryllsBra · 18/09/2011 22:09

Oooh well done Pistey, 20 mins with carpeted lungs is FAB! You have almost convinced me to go back out there ....

That beanie is fabulastic!

Am v. Envy of you two going out shopping and cake eating.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/09/2011 22:16

Bear... Come then! We could shop for nail varnish and eat cake...
T'would be marvellous.
Please say you'll come?

OP posts:
BearGryllsBra · 18/09/2011 22:47

Oh I would LOVE to, trust me! If I can wangle it I will but if I can't, you'll just have to provide a breakdown of the day with pictures. Grin I love that cat so much - he looks just like the one on the sofa next to me, he is adorable. Always makes me want to sing And I loved your choice of music on your run, when I play those songs I always think of you lot too :). Makes me as I pootle along.

Am so pleased you've been out, I know I would feel better if I did too - I need to get myself organised, have loads on this week too, but I need to start making it a priority again.

Off to bed now, nighty night all - happy running!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/09/2011 22:56

Too dark where I run, playing fields with no lighting at all, could stick to the streets I suppose but I kind of want to keep to the same circuit at the moment for time comparison purposes.

I'm up for nail varnish and coffee in London if the date is right, I'm only an hour away by train.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/09/2011 23:03

It would be such a laff. Let's vow not to even mention running

Linzer... This will mostly hinge on your availability I think!

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 19/09/2011 05:09

Ooh, a mini thread meet-up - that would be lovely. Smile I'm not sure I can wangle more than an hour or so as we'll only be in London for three days, but it would be fab to meet as many of you as possible. We'll be there from Sunday morning (30th Oct) until Wednesday evening (2nd November), so any time from Sunday afternoon up until about Wed lunchtime is fine by me. Just let me know when you're all available. Smile

I am already preparing the ground, having suggested to DH that I would be quite happy to take the DC off on my own for an hour or two if he wanted to meet his old PhD supervisor, but he said that he only saw him last year. He did tell me a while ago that he thought I should be more adventurous nail polish wise, so I shall tell him that I will be meeting a few nail varnish consultants for advice. Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/09/2011 06:31

It did cross my mind that we would have a different half term, and we do! But I could do the Sunday, monday or tuesday afternoon, and yes coffee and a gas for an hour would be lovely and then you must shoot off Grin

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 19/09/2011 07:25

It's not even a proper half-term here, as it hasn't been confirmed yet that school will still be closed on Thurs and Fri (we have bank holidays on the Tuesday and Wednesday), but if the worst comes to the worst, we'll be back in Austria on Wed night. I wish we could have a whole week in London, but unfortunately DH has to work at the end of the week (and I'm not sure we could have afforded it either).

Having reread my last post, it makes it sound like DH is a bit of a control freak, which isn't the case at all - I'm sure he'll be fine with it. Smile Coffee and nail polish chat on any of those afternoons would be fab, Pistey; would you be able to make it on any of those days too, Bear and WhoKnows?

To get back on topic, I've postponed my run as it's pouring with rain here and I'm a wimp. Rain forecast again tomorrow, plus speech therapist's and an English lesson to teach tomorrow morning, so I'm not sure I'll manage to get out before Wednesday - I can't even get out in the evening with DH away (not that I ever have the energy to do so).

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/09/2011 10:14

Sun afternoon probably easiest for me TBH as it's a school week.

LinzerTorte · 19/09/2011 10:36

Does Sunday afternoon work for you too, Bear? We'll be landing at Stansted at 11.15 am so should be in London early afternoon and could meet mid-afternoon for a run through central London. Grin

bafanatheSober · 19/09/2011 11:30

Morning all
Can I please join you all?
Started Couch to 5 last Monday, and went out 3 times last week, and then again this morning.
Want to tone rather than lose, although a sneaky half stone would never go amiss!!
Just can't face getting to 40 and being as unfit as I currently am!
Have had a brief read through, and the tracks are inspiring, so need to get iphone sorted.
Currently running to the Podrunner to try and inspire me.

LinzerTorte · 19/09/2011 12:32

Hi bafana and welcome to the thread. Smile Your motivations sound very similar to mine - I turn 40 in less than a month (eek!) and decided there was only so much longer I could continue doing absolutely no exercise. I do feel more toned and generally fitter, although haven't really lost any weight I don't think.

You've reminded me that I need to update my running playlist, as I'm getting slightly bored of listening to the same old songs - some are still quite uplifting, but others are a bit meh.

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 19/09/2011 12:39

welcome bafana!

I am very Envy at the the thought of a mini-meet-up.

I don't think I will be back until either December or Jan - DC's are coming on their own for half term.

And I haven't run for a week - but I have shredded, swotted and been for a couple of long walks. Fingers crossed this week will be better.
