The Couch to 5k 2011 - Part 3 : Keep Holding My Hand So We Don’t get Separated!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/07/2011 23:07

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear and the music we listen to! New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

If we stick together we will enjoy success, I thought song lyrics were appropriate so in the words of Gwen Stefani.. Grin

Run, running all the time
Running to the future
With you right by my side
Me, I'm the one you chose
Out of all the people
You wanted me the most

Running, running, as fast as we can
As fast as we can
Do you think you'll make it?
Do you think we'll make it?
We're running, keep holding my hand
It's so we don't get separated

Be, be the one I need
Be the one I trust most
Don't stop inspiring me...

Good luck everyone x
Wine

I am very tempted to write that after struggling for a while, I just had to give up and am still wearing it today - at least I'm ready for the Shred later, even if everyone seems to be giving me a wide berth.

But that would be a lie. Grin

BsshBossh · 15/09/2011 13:13

Am ill with some kind of bug plus my time of month. Will resume W4 next week.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/09/2011 14:46

Hope you feel better soon BshhBosh. My DD just had two days off school with a tummy bug, she went back today and then I got the call this afternoon to say that DS had been sick at school, so I am confidently expecting it to be me next Sad.

LinzerTorte · 15/09/2011 15:09

Hope you're feeling better soon, Bssh.

Keep washing your hands WhoKnows! I've done so obsessively in the past; ended up with raw red hands, but didn't come down with anything. I wasn't quite as obsessive this time round and did catch the bug, but there were nearly two weeks in between DD2 catching it and me coming down with it (with DD1 in between) and it's hard to keep up that level of OCD for so long!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/09/2011 17:12

yes, i have been scrubbing mine but probably should have been making DD do hers more, she wasn't going to the loo much, just sitting on the sofa all day and as she never got any on her hands I didn't get her up to wash them every time. I've got the anti-bac handspray out for DS.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/09/2011 19:40

W2R3 - felt much easier tonight, maybe because there was no wind. Extrapolated time for 5k = 29m10s, down from 30m43s last time, which means I can move onto Level 3 next. If Level 2 of the Shred doesn't finish me off in the meantime!

BearGryllsBra · 15/09/2011 22:17

Are you still my friends? Wink

Sorry I have been AWOL, RL has intruded somewhat rudely these past couple of weeks but I am ready to knuckle down soon and get back in the saddle. Am off to bed now, but look forward to catching up with you all and your antics in the morning and seeing what you've been up to.

Night night all

Welcome back Bear m'lovely!

LinzerTorte · 16/09/2011 06:57

Lovely to see you back, Bear. Smile

Off for my run now. It's much cooler here today, so I hope that will make it easier.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/09/2011 08:12

Bear I wa wondering where you had got to, good to see you back.

I've got the lurgy now Sad

LinzerTorte · 16/09/2011 08:26

Oh no, WhoKnows - hope you're feeling better soon.

Back from my run and I have a new PB - only 3 seconds faster than my last one, but still, a new PB is a new PB. Grin Tbh though, I had so much whirring round in my mind that my head felt like it was in a different place from my body most of the time, and I wasn't even thinking about running/how exhausted I felt/how much further I had to go.

mollycuddles · 16/09/2011 08:26

Boo to various lurgies. Been up half the night with perfectly well, non lurgified non sleeping boob obsessed dd2. Hope to go running later anyway as have the day off work. Dh was meant to have hospital appointment but had been rearranged so we can go out, do lunch etc. He's hoping for the etc :D

If any of you could read my Aibu thread re being precious 3rd born I'd appreciate the opinions of runners. Am conflicted. Ta muchly

didldidi · 16/09/2011 17:31

I have just completed week 1 run 3 and I'm still finding it really hard to make the 60 seconds! really can't imagine making it to 90 next week - should I repeat the week in the hope it will get easier or just go for it with week 2

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/09/2011 18:05

DidlDiDi I would try Week 2, I'm on my second time through the programme and just finished week 2 and found it easier than week1 to some extent because you get longer walking intervals and fewer running ones, only 6.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/09/2011 20:44

Shuffles in..... I will run this weekend and I need someone to boot my arse. But not too hard, it's not been a very good day and I may weep! Just medium hard and possibly a few stern words should do.

OP posts:
BearGryllsBra · 16/09/2011 22:39

Thank you for my welcome backs, it has cheered me up. But poor Pistey what ails you? Do you need a coat of Merry Midnight? Tell us all. I will not boot you up the arse because I need a boot too. Can I do anything to help?

sweaty - if I had a hat on I would take it off to you for you are one supershredding, runtastic, nail varnish toting woman. Hope you're not running yourself into the ground with work and essays and the like. I've got something waiting to go to the PO for you, you little darling. :)

Now who's poorly? Lie down on this sofa with a duvet, some chocolate and a nice book, and I will go and make you aBrew. Get well soon WhoKnows, Bsssh and molly.

Well done Linzerette with your new PB and your new top. I expect it has go faster stripes on it which sped you on. Grin

Molly I've not read/found your thread yet. Hope you're ok and not taken an AIBU bashing.

I hope I've not missed any of you out, apologies if I have it's my age, and well done to everyone who's been out there running and getting on with it unlike moi. I just need a kick start again. I might start Monday morning again and just go for it and see how I get on, and save my Shred until I get back in the swing of things again. If only I could summon up the same enthusiasm for running that I can for painting my nails. Hmm

Now for your weekend delectation, feast your eyepeeps on THIS!

And this which you can see in action .

I won't sleep now.

didldidi · 17/09/2011 08:01

Thanks whoknows, think I will try week one one more time today and start week 2 in a couple of days.

LinzerTorte · 17/09/2011 09:01

That nail polish is amazing, Bear - quite literally dazzling. The other one is a great idea too, but ?16.73 postage? Shock We need to club together. Grin

No running for me today, but I'll give you a gentle shove Pistey. Hope you're OK (am just making some Brew if you need any). Good luck with your run, didl.

I am über excited as we are coming to London over half term. I could even have my gait analysed at last! But I don't think I can really justify new running shoes when I've only had my current ones six months and they're very comfortable. Still, I'm sure I'll find something else to spend my money on - nail polish, for example. Grin I could also do with some more running/exercise gear now that I'm doing the Shred.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/09/2011 09:13

That nail varnish reminds me of one I used to buy as a teenager in the local chemist, full of glitter, loved them.

I'm feeling much better today, just slightly weak now. I have lost half a stone! Don't suppose it'll stay off though. Hopefully I will get out for a run tomorrow night.

Have you found somewhere to stay in London Linzer?

LinzerTorte · 17/09/2011 10:06

Glad to hear you're feeling better, WhoKnows. I had a lovely flat stomach after my bug a few weeks ago, but unfortunately it didn't stay that way!

Yes, I finally managed to find a hotel that still had rooms available. It was slightly more than we wanted to spend, but I was just relieved to finally find somewhere with a family room and that had decent reviews. So London here we come! Just need to order our Oyster cards now (after I've decided whether to get normal or visitors' ones).

JelliBelli · 17/09/2011 18:57

There has been a tragedy on the Jelli front! Shock

I have a split nail! I am dooooomed! Doomed I tell you. Sad Anyone know how to glue my split nail back down? It's right down by the top of the pink. Otherwise I will be demoted to bare finger nails while it grows back to a respectable length.

Loving those nail garnishes but sadly may not be needing any for a while......

Oh yes, I ran for 30 minutes again today. DH came too but had to stop as he is nursing a calf injury which was giving him gyp/gip/jyp/jip (sp?)

Glad you're feeling better whoknow and good to see you Bear. Pistey - go run! You know you'll feel better once you've been Wink

sybilfaulty · 17/09/2011 19:17

Loving the nail polish chat! It's my birthday today and I have been given some rather nice grey polish. My nails are very short though so it'll either look chic or gothic. Sorry about the split nail, Jelli. I'd just paint them anyway. I have stuck toenails back down when I have overtrimmed witha bit of nail polish and it sort of works, so I'd just go for it.

I did myWk2, r1 apace this morning. Felt rather dodgy so it was a bit of an effort and think I might have to do this one 3 times in order to keep up my speed.

Keep on running everyone.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/09/2011 20:29

Happy Birthday Sybil! I had to do 3 runs of Week 2 in order to get my to my target speed in the running intervals.

Jelli - is it a finger or a thumb? My thumb nails split a lot more than my fingers, I think you can get away with a short thumb nail though. How about just going for a nude colour for a couple of weeks?

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 17/09/2011 20:45

Happy Birthday Sybil!
