The Couch to 5k 2011 - Part 3 : Keep Holding My Hand So We Don’t get Separated!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/07/2011 23:07

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear and the music we listen to! New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

If we stick together we will enjoy success, I thought song lyrics were appropriate so in the words of Gwen Stefani.. Grin

Run, running all the time
Running to the future
With you right by my side
Me, I'm the one you chose
Out of all the people
You wanted me the most

Running, running, as fast as we can
As fast as we can
Do you think you'll make it?
Do you think we'll make it?
We're running, keep holding my hand
It's so we don't get separated

Be, be the one I need
Be the one I trust most
Don't stop inspiring me...

Good luck everyone x
Wine

Sigh. My boobs have all but disappeared - dd2 ate them (is still eating them at 16 months). Why couldn't the boobs have stayed while I've been losing weight. The tummy has...

Haven't been running much this week as dd2 has been sick and not sleeping. She is getting better and didn't wake the past 2 nights but I was at work until past midnight last night so I still feel jet lagged. Despite that I'm going out in about an hour to train with a local running club for the first time. Eek.

JelliBelli · 16/10/2011 15:43

I still have my big bazookas! I wish I didn't though but I am not at the stage yet where I am ready to put the effort in to lose some more weight. The determination may come in due course....... But I have them firmly stapped down and haven't noticed any white van men noticing me [hconfused] .

Went for a shortish run to the beach on Thursday on the way back from work as I was tight for time and did a 45 minuter with DH this morning. With hills! I don't much like uphills! But I didn't get any stitches coming downhill either - oH hurrah! I am starting to enjoy downhill at last!

I live in a village in the middle of fields so I have a great choice of direction, surface, distance and gradient [hconfused] but no lighting which will be tricky when the clocks change [hshock] as aloop around the lit bit of the village is only 1mile/1.6km.

Talking of witch [hgrin] I need a new exercise plan to help me when the clocks change and its too dark to run from home after work. I think I will have to look into local running groups too (let us know how you get on Molly) and run with them once or twice a week with shredding or similar on my non running days.

More importantly, having suffered three nail breakages [hshock] a while back, they are starting to grow and will be suitable for decoration again in a few weeks, but I will miss the halloween opportunities I think.

Hope you're all running well

KristinaM · 16/10/2011 23:36

I love in the country and have a circular route from my house thats 5.2km. I only see farm animals and the odd cyclist, dog walker or runner. Sometimes a tractor or a car

Only hazards here are slurry. We have neighbours but they are not a hazard Confused

Thnanks for the tip about aldis, i got socks, legings, a base layer and two tops. None in purple im afaid, as i run on the road its hi vis all the way for me

sybilfaulty · 18/10/2011 07:24

That bra is fantastic! I want one! Mind you, my boobs are so big that there isn't room for much extra in it.

I cannot believe I've not been out for 2 weeks. Too much work and too much wine have got in the way. I am rubbish and am puttingon weight as well as getting wobblier and less fit. could someone please give me the necessary boot up the backside to get out and get running.

Hope everyone is well and happy.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/10/2011 07:27

When you get your new thread, don't leave me behind Sad

Went really well on Sunday. They're really nice and welcoming. We ran around local park. I prefer to run off road anyway and although it's slightly hilly it's not as bad as the park I usually run in so I didn't die too badly. I'll be going again on wednesday when they're doing intervals and circuits. Not looking forward to that!
Hope everyone has a lovely Tuesday.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/10/2011 09:01

Morning all,

Just a quick one as I have got to get to work, got out yesterday and did an extra Week 4 run with no ill effects from my back, so that was good. I had to walk part of the last running interval as it was a fairly steep hill, but other than that it went well, so I need to move onto Week 5.

I also need to rethink my schedule due to dark evenings, I am thinking Mon and Fri am after school run (I work on Tues/Weds/Thurs) then Weds I should be able to get away from work early enough to run in the afternoon before the school run. Not sure about the strength stuff, I'm not going back to the Shred for the time being as I have got some sort of injury in my shoulder/neck at th moment, so any sort of planks are completely out. I am going to do some abs and back stuff though.

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 18/10/2011 12:44

Morning all, just a quick one from me too. it was dark when I went out this morning, but the sunrise was lovely, and the light outside is just magic now. I'm still doing W1 as interval training and it's harder work than I thought it would be (molly, I read your post on another thread and have been using that to encourage me Grin).

In the interests of science I have garmin-ed running and shredding. Because I've been pushing the running, and keeping my heart rate up, running for 30 mins is burning 250+ calories. A level 3 shred with 4lb weights is about 230, level 1 with 4lb weights (I went back to the start yesterday) about 220 and Jillian's yoga DVD only about 100.

My boys arrive on Thursday night so I may not be out as often while they are here next week.

Keep running everyone - sybil, encouraging pats from me, whoknows, glad to hear the back is better, but not about your shoulder, pistey, get a move on and start a new thread, there's a dear, Kristina, your route sounds idyllic, as does jelli's beach! babycham, hope you haven't caused too may car crashes Grin

maybetoday · 18/10/2011 22:33

Hey everyone,
Was out in the cold, wind and rain this morning, but managed to finish week 4 - yeah! Strangely the last 5 minute run was the best.
How's week 5 going babycham? Seems a bit of a stretch to go from running 5 minutes at a time to 20 minutes - eek Shock
Hope everyone's having a good week.
Give me a clue when you start a new thread. :)

LinzerTorte · 19/10/2011 08:18

Well done on all the running, everyone. I am still hiding behind the excuse of being snowed under with work until the end of the month - could do with going for a run to warm myself up, though. It's freezing here in the mornings and I'm freezing stuck up here in my garret, where I'm beavering away on my computer. The boiler man should be arriving at any time, however, so hopefully the central heating will be working again within the next few hours.

Love your pinboard Nell - your museum of childhood really brought back memories. Twinkle is the first thing I can remember reading! My Original Nail Envy arrived a few days ago btw and I've just applied a second coat, so am looking forward to having fabulous long and healthy nails very soon. Grin

NellVarnishedInAPuffOfSmoke · 19/10/2011 10:03

I've really lost the plot with running and stuff lately, I feel a bit of a fraud coming on the thread and taking up all the space chuntering about nail varnish and Pinterest and the like, but I would miss you lot if I didn't, and you all inspire me to get my expensive running shoes out and get going.

So you're stuck with me. Grin

I'm going to go and read and catch up on all the running news and weep.

Hope you're all well and happy :)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/10/2011 11:23

Week 5 Run 1 done, 3 x 5 minutes. It felt as though the first interval was the fastest, the second and third got interrupted by crossing busy roads and people asking directions (I was actually walking at the moment I was asked so forgiveable but missed the start of the next running interval) but when I looked at my times the first was actually slowest. There is a popular but hidden away tourist attraction on my favourite route so direction askers are a hazard!

JelliBelli · 19/10/2011 12:15

Grin at Whoknows's hazardous tourists!

Come on Nell, get cracking - you know how good it feels when you've been running - get those expensive, hand selected, possibly the most pricey shoes you possess running shoes out and give them an airing. Come to PRSP, it's dreeeeamy!

Went out this am with DH for a run. We went via the shop and stopped for a loaf of bread for PIL, who are staying, but got a stitch again on restarting - bugger! I thought I had finished with those wretched things. It came and went all during my run. On the bright side my new Aldi gloves did the business and I had cosy fingies for the whole run. A chilly, but lovely morning run for us as we managed to go in between showers!

Happy running everyone, keep going those on the programme and especially you Nell - we're all watching for your updates now!!!! Wink

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/10/2011 12:59

Yes, I think I need some gloves, decidedly chilly here today, but beautiful sunshine. I am just having a break from some gardening.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/10/2011 21:22

Nell - it will come back, I have had spells like this (frequently!). Keep posting, we like talking about nail varnish and other stuff too. I know for a fact that I would have given up running ages ago without this thread. As it is I am halfway through for the second time and planning to do it again next time I want a speed increase as it is proving highly effective for that.

I'm on the Fledgling Flyers threads in Housekeeping, we've been going for two years and there is masses of chat, it really keeps the momentum of the thread going, so happy to have a bit of chat on this thread too.

Would anyone like me to start a new thread? We are very nearly full. I might not have such an inspirational opening post as Pistey unless I cut and paste

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/10/2011 21:25

SOME ONE MAKE A NEW THREAD OR YOU WILL ALL GET SEPARATED

Thanks WhoKnows, tis good to know I'm not alone. Although I will be if you lot all bugger offski and leave me here muttering about nail varnish to myself!

Jelli you have really motivated me. I've got my shoesies out, so that is Step 1 on the GBIAB Plan (Get Back Into Action Bear). Grin

at WhoKnows tourists.

Pistey are you woolled under my lovely?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/10/2011 21:42

Here we are

New Thread

LinzerTorte · 19/10/2011 21:44

That would be great if you didn't mind starting a new thread, WhoKnows. I seem to be on both this and the Fledgling Flyers thread for the chat more than anything at the moment - but I will start going out again next month. I have to show off my purple hat for one thing. Grin

I'm missing the running (and must admit I'm missing the PRSP even more). Must really try to get ahead on my work and see if I can possibly even go out this weekend. I am fed up at how little time I have for everything at the moment.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/10/2011 21:46

How do you think I got my nickname Linzer! Actually, it's a song that I love, but it is very applicable.
