The Couch to 5k 2011 - Part 3 : Keep Holding My Hand So We Don’t get Separated!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/07/2011 23:07

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear and the music we listen to! New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

If we stick together we will enjoy success, I thought song lyrics were appropriate so in the words of Gwen Stefani.. Grin

Run, running all the time
Running to the future
With you right by my side
Me, I'm the one you chose
Out of all the people
You wanted me the most

Running, running, as fast as we can
As fast as we can
Do you think you'll make it?
Do you think we'll make it?
We're running, keep holding my hand
It's so we don't get separated

Be, be the one I need
Be the one I trust most
Don't stop inspiring me...

Good luck everyone x
Wine

Ok, I'm marking my place as a big kick up the bum because I'm Going to Join You.

I have 10kg of weight to lose and I'm going to do it. Couch to 5k is my first step.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/07/2011 19:27

in you come ComradeJing! Start and stick with it, it is honestly amazing Grin

I was a total non runner, and now can run for about 45 minutes, not terribly fast or fabulous, but I can do it...

And I loved my new music selection tonight - I felt really motivated - Fat Bottomed Girls & Another one bites the dust made me genuinely laugh out loud when they came on, Chelsea Dagger & I Don't Feel Like Dancin' really lifted me, as did Katrina and the Waves, and I was almost over excited when Mr Blue Sky and Single Lady came on - I felt I was with friends x

I ran 4K tonight so am feeling happy!

Hello.

running? Outside? With people looking at you?

I've been shredding (and others) since feb, so I no longer die when exerted, but I don't think I have ever wore my trainers outside Blush maybe once to the post box.

How do you get brave to go outside and puff where someone might catch you all sweaty and unfit looking ?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/07/2011 21:52

Nagini - good name Grin you just go for it! You get the couch to 5 K app and work your way through. No one will look at you. You plug yourself into your iPod and then you are in a little oblivious bubble.

OR you wait until the autumn and go out when it's dark. Then you really are invisible! Then by the time the lighter evenings are here again you'll be rocking along at a good pace.

Get the app, get out and try it!

Yay Wine, thanks Pistey, great new thread! Going to catch up on all your antics now - so pleased the music has made it over!

BearGryllsBra · 13/07/2011 22:03

Have been watching The Apprentice like this Shock! Caraca's mwahahahaha! and Columbus British? Hilarious! Was sooooo funny.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/07/2011 22:23

Don't tell me about the apprentice Bear! DH and I are watching tomorrow and are avoiding everything.
My fave is Tom.
I quite like Susy.

BearGryllsBra · 13/07/2011 22:37

It was the BEST! but that's all I'm saying. Apart from the fact that I think Jim looks like Woody from Toy Story Grin.

BearGryllsBra · 13/07/2011 22:38

sweaty, yoo hoo! Well done for transferring all the songs - I love seeing what you all run to - Mr Blue Sky is most definitely you, and I'm delighted that I've converted Pistey to the fabulous wee ginger Scottish boys! and well done on your MBA.

Welcome, welcome Nagini (yes, yes outside, with people laughing and pointing and everything in my case, and tooting their horns at me shaking my fat ass, Beyonce style!) and ComradeJing, welcome - have some Wine!

Hellooooo sybil! Will have to add Sweet Caroline to my list, I like that one. And hi encyclo - so much to catch up on, glad you're having good runs. Not those runs though I hope Grin.

Going out on Friday Pistey, and will have added some more songs (Scissor Sisters!) by then - hopefully lungs will be laminated by then and not carpeted - you've made a great job of this new thread, well done! And that's how I feel - like running with friends when I hear certain songs. :) Must add Paulo for ma. Oh and listen to Sunshine on Leith by The Proclaimers - makes me cry that one does - not a running song, but a fabulous song all the same.

I can feel great things coming from this thread already!

BearGryllsBra · 13/07/2011 22:39

My favourite is Tom too. But DH like Amy Childs. Yes I know she's not on The Apprentice, but that's by the by Grin.

Pinkglow · 14/07/2011 08:57

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/07/2011 14:26

< arf > at Amy Childs!

Glad our Tom is safe. Who will go I wonder? At the mo I think Natasha.

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/07/2011 15:13

I should do the lottery!! Goodbye Natasha!
Go Tom xx

Lovely to see Margaret back for next week. I think Tom or Susie to win. If he was looking for a previous show apprentice, I'd have thought either of the other two.

No running today. Boxercise instead which I love cos I can hit things legitimately!!

MarniesMummy · 14/07/2011 21:30

Hi Piste (and everyone else!). Just makring my place. I've just got back from a run and thought I'd look you up. Glad to see that there are still so many names I recognise. I still run (almost) every other day.

I've even managed to do the shred DVD a few times. I tried level two, never again!!!

Like the play lists. I still use Laura as I really like her encouraging comments and the fact that she tells you how much time has elapsed. But usually I run with friends and just chat.

People half a mile away still turn to check that it's not a rhino behind them, quiet breathing is still beyond me!!!

Guess what? Even though I am 3 dress sizes smaller than when I began I weigh less than 7 lbs less!! I don't care though, wearing trousers 3 sizes smaller makes me a happy woman.

How was Boxercise?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/07/2011 21:50

MarniesMummy - lovely to see you and great you are runnning still!!

Boxercise is fab because I can legitimately punch things and it is such a hard workout, but great fun. I am running three times a week, for 30 -40 mins and am building up, but I am currently running on a machine inside because the dust and pollen got too much for my wheezy old chesticles. I found it easier to breathe when the weather was icy!!

sweatybrawearer · 15/07/2011 01:05

Hello Marnie, good to see you and big well done on dropping not one, not two, but THREE dress sizes!!!

That's it. I'm dragging myself off my sofa and going out.

sweatybrawearer · 15/07/2011 02:28

Yahoooooo! 45 mins, 3.76m = 6k. Jolly hot, but so glad I went out (even though I discovered yet more new aches and pains on my way round Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/07/2011 07:08

Sweaty - that is amazing!!
It took me 35 mins to do 4 K Grin

Morning all,

Just checking in, I am up to W8r2 and really enjoying it.

Going to update my music though as run to same album everytime.

I shall be gutted at the end of next week when i have finished the programme!

JelliBelli · 15/07/2011 08:00

Hi all,

Just been out for my W4R2 (10k) today. It went Ok and was very pleasant - I felt I had the world to myself until I meet a dog walker at 7.15. I am a day out for runs this week as I ran out of time to run on Tuesday so I had to go Wednesday and today. I hope to catch up with myself on Sunday (for my 40 min run [hshock]!!! eek!!!) then back to normal next week.

[hgrin]Can't run tonight as its Harry Potter!!! (I know - a big kid etc etc...)[hgrin]

Nagini · 15/07/2011 08:07

I'm going to lurk on here for a bit. I'm not sure when I might have some time away from DCs to try this. I'll check the app out though thanks:)

BearGryllsBra · 15/07/2011 09:55

Hello Pinkglow and welcome back MarniesMummy! You've been doing SO well - 3 dress sizes is very impressive! at rhino breathing, that's me Grin.

And well done sweaty, that is no mean feat in that heat/humidity. You are brilliant!

Just been out and the pollen must have lessened or dampened or whatever the technical term is Pistey cos yippee, I managed it with only a little wheeze or two. I was determined to enjoy it and I did apart from getting up. How was boxercise? And YES to Margaret! She will wipe the floor with Woody, I can't wait Grin, and think Tom might just win.

Six weeks of summer holidays are beckoning from today, which I'm looking forward to but hoping I won't be a slacker and give up. Kicks up the bahookie on a daily basis most welcome! Going to re-jiggle playlist again, and add a few more to keep me on track - wish I had an iPhone instead of iPod as then I could have my own music with the talky bit to keep me to time, over the top, but since I didn't win the £166 million the other night, I'll have to make do.

Have fun at HP tonight Jelli (10K, wow!), can't wait to see it, happily, you'll have to join jelli on the 10K when you're done! And nagini (have you seen HP yet?), be sure to pop in and let us know how you're getting on :)

Happy running and have a great weekend everyone.
