Ooh there's a thought Bear Grin nighty night!

encyclogirl · 13/06/2011 10:01

Good morning runners :)

Ooooh quads a bit sore today. W1R2 tonight. Really looking forward to it. There's a thread about running in AIBU and someone posted that they run 5 x 30 minutes each week and can eat WHATEVER THEY WANT!

Now that's what I call motivation.

sweatybrawearer · 13/06/2011 12:39

Morning encyclogirl!

I think I read that thread before we went hiking on Saturday. So I popped my sports bra on in case I had the chance to run a bit, which led to my downfall. Grrrr. At least I did my ankle in at the end and not half way through Grin.

I can recommend plenty of Wine to cure sore ankles. I have a doc's appointment at 11, but am feeling tons better today. Shame about the headache and dry mouth though....

BearGryllsBra · 13/06/2011 19:42

Yes I've heard that too encyclogirl, about eating what you want. Sadly I've been doing just that for the past four weeks whilst not running and strangely enough it has had the opposite effect. Can't think why Blush. How's your quads this evening? I don't even know where my quads are ...

Went on treadmill today and did 12mins, then 3 min walk then 5 min run to see how my foot behaved, and it was sore, but ok-ish. Suppose I will see tomorrow whether it's better or worse but I feel better for having run. Bit gutted at having dropped from 28 to 12 but will just have to work on that and build it back up. Missing being outside, roll on Friday, and the flora and fauna.

How did you get on at the docs sweaty? Fancy a glass of Wine? Wink

rowrowrowyourboat · 13/06/2011 20:36

Well done Encyclogirl!

I seem to be struck at the 20 min run, three attempts so far and I still haven't made it. I just wasn't up for it on saturday and today I'm not sure if I started off too fast or quite what but the back of my calf just tighten up, I tried walking a bit then running again but no luck. I'm beginning to think I'm just not meant to do it Hmm

I was wondering where supersal and others had gone.

SuchProspects · 13/06/2011 21:19

Rowrow - Well done on going out today! Don't give up!

You're still doing brilliantly and of course you're cut out for it! How much longer can you run now than you could 2 months ago? Just think about what you are running when your trying for the 20 min and how out of reach that seemed when you started. You've already improved so much. It doesn't matter if it takes a while to get to the goal.

If you're finding it unmotivating to be trying and not making it, go back a week and build up again - try and run faster in the runs so when you come to the 20 minute one dropping the speed has more impact. You will make it!

JelliBelli · 13/06/2011 22:42

Sweaty very pleased your feeling heaps better today. What did the doc say?

sweatybrawearer · 13/06/2011 23:09

Hello all. Good news, it's only a sprained ligament, so the doc told me to have a good week off running and take paracetamol. I am walking around normally today and feel OK. Hooray!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/06/2011 17:55

I have been so AWOL. I apologise.

My asthma was so bad and I had to abandon ship. But today I went running in a gym on a machine thingy - first time running in about 4 weeks and I know it's easier but I did 2 K no probs. I think at this time of year indoor running is the way forward for me, although last winter I did like going out and about.

Am I still eligible for a slutty bra?

OP posts:
BearGryllsBra · 14/06/2011 18:32

Pistey! Hello! Yes you are still Chief Slutty Bra Wifie of course!

I too have been out of action with plantar foot (my diagnosis, still not been to docs), and have started running in the gym on the machine thingy too, but only managed 12 mins today. My legs were up for it, but my foot hurt so much I called it a day. I thought of you lot though as had ipod and puffer and a piece of paper with the door code stuck down my bra Grin. Hope your asthma's on the mend - the other day I forgot to take my puffer with me and my lungs were burning like buggery. It made me feel quite panicky at one point.

Great news, well not great exactly, but good that the injury should be gone in a week or so sweaty. Maybe it will have cooled down by then.

rowrow sorry to hear about your calf - mine used to give me gyp when I first started but settled down the longer I ran and never gave me any probs again. Don't give up, you're doing so well!

Hello Such and Jelli, hope you're getting some good runs in :)

JelliBelli · 14/06/2011 19:25

Hi Bear et al,

I am due to do my W8R1 tonight when DH get home!! W8!!! who'd have thought it? I can't believe I may be running 3 miles on Sunday - although my 2 mile run on Sunday made me feel a little pukey Hmm - little ol' me.

What a great programme the C25K is! MNing, 30 day shred and C25K truely have been life changing for me.

Hope everyone's asthma and injuries are much better soon.

Back soon to let you know how it goes later.

melodyangel · 14/06/2011 20:58

Hello everyone, sounds like you have all been in the wars!

Good luck with your run JelliBelli hope it goes well. I couldn't agree more about the programme being life changing. I feel so much better now I've started running. Have got the shred DVD but haven't started yet too much stuff every where at the mo!

Well back to running tonight my first as a married lady! Ok I know it's silly but I'm enjoying everything thing being the first time since being married. Hopefully it will go well but I know the first ten minutes will be hellish. Does this ever get any better?

Does anyone get pain in their hips? I find if I run too slowly my hips really hurt.

Not sure I would agree that treadmill running is easier, I mean yes phyically it is but it's so much more of a plod IYKWIM. I love running outside keeps my mind busy.

JelliBelli · 14/06/2011 22:47

I'm back and still alive (which is always a bonus!). It was 2x 15 min runs which meant I just about covered the three miles I had plotted on walkjogrun in readiness for Sunday's 5k - which felt like good news. I was ready to stop by one minute to go though with heavy legs and a hearty stitch. Good news though - it didn't take me long to recover and get talking again though!!Grin

I also meant to say "Phew! Sweaty glad it's nothing too sinister (and well done for going to the docs)"

sweatybrawearer · 15/06/2011 00:03

Well done jelli! That's great progress.

I told the doctor that I felt a bit of a fraud but my friends had told me to go. He was very nice, and said you were all right and that I should always err on the side of caution and he would be the judge of whether I was OK or not. Goodness knows how much the insurance company will end up paying out Grin.

melody - welcome back Mrs melody's DH.

pistey - great to see you again!!!!

bear, glad you did a bit, even if it wasn't as much as you'd hoped.

melodyangel · 15/06/2011 17:18

Jelli good luck with your run on Sunday.

Melody thanks for the luck. I am 'only' doing MY 5K run on Sunday, that is the one at the end of my C25k programme and not a 5K run, iyswim. Thanks though!

Thanks for the guilt Octopus - I need to get out in the veg plot too but not tonight as I am off to eat sensibly at bookclub tonight.

instantfamily · 15/06/2011 20:47

Hello again and well done to you all.

I have finished program (yeah!), but don't know if I am running 5k yet in my 30 min. I don't really mind but I will soon be going on holidays and want to take my running shoes but am thinking how to progress: is it better to
a) up the time to 40 minutes, say,
b) increase the speed and make sure I can do 5k in 30min or
c) run more often per week? Does anybody have a suggestion?

Any suggestions?

Another allotment grower here! I can't wait to be able to run to the allotment do some work and then run back, unfortunately it's all up hill. A very big, steep, scary looking hill! Running home is easy though. Have to do that regularly as I'm always rushing to get back to pick up DS2 at 3.

Well Tuesday's run was ok. The first ten minutes weren't the hell I thought they would be but we stopped half way to walk up the hill and I found it hard to get going again. We didn't quite do 5k but the time wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Hopefully running again tonight as I'm not keen on running at the weekends in the evenings far too many people about.

Good luck all and Hello to new people.

DOG - Hello. I love that feeling when you get back and just buzz for an hour or so makes it all worth while. How are you finding it with a running partner? Do you both run at about the same speed or do you both do your own thing and meet up at the end?

JelliBelli · 16/06/2011 18:55

Just popped in to build some enthusiasm to go and run (W8R2). DH isn't here tonight so I'll be alone. I tried to convince DD(15) to come too but she "doesn't want to join our weird family running club"!! Grin

I ought to go while it's dry and I'm getting really quite hungry now....

DOG I'm still waiting to feel a buzz about this running lark - DH says it'll come but I'm still waiting after the whole 8 weeks Confused

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/06/2011 20:00

Evening all, sorry to have been AWOL again, I made a long post earlier in this week and then did something wrong and lost it.

I have had a good week so far, have managed 2 x 30 min runs, having lapsed after finishing the C25K. I had to do a couple of walking intervals each time because of hills (the route I mainly used for C25K was about the only flat one round here but I'm bored of it now and it's not long enough).

InstantFamily - hello, I finished C25K a few weeks ago and at that point had managed to do 3.7K in 30 mins. I'm aiming to get up to 5K in 30 mins rather than increasing time at the moment, I find it hard enough to fit it in as it is without increasing too much. I'm using the Runkeeper App on Iphone to measure it all.

JelliBelli · 16/06/2011 21:32

Octopus I have followed my Bupa programme to the letter (except I walked 5 steps last week when i changed direction half way through my 2 mile run Shock) so i have done it 3x per week for 8 2/3 weeks (not that I am excited by nearly completing the programme or anything!!). Perhaps others can help?

I usually run on a disused railway line which has gentle slopes, so I can feel a little smug about running uphill with not too much actual effort involvedGrin.

Bookclub was fun thanks and we even spoke about the book for a reasonable amount of time too! It had the highest reading rate from our wineclub bookclub that I can remember - Room by Emma Donoghue if anyone's interested. However, yet another day has slipped by without me doing any veg-care, ho-hum...

So my run went well-ish. I managed to reach my 1 1/2 mile marker within my 15 minutes but only just and managed the same coming home. It was a beautiful evening with the sun shining through the trees and big droplets falling from the leaves and the stream tumbling by. So quite a good run now I am home and fed!!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 17/06/2011 18:24

Did a 3K run today, much better on my hips and knees,

Back on my running selection on the iphone. What are we all listening to at the mo??!!
