More space for us to talk about our progress on the C25K programme, the highs, the lows, the hills, the rain, our pelvic floors and our choice of running music!

All are welcome on this international thread, stay with us and enjoy success Grin

Hi everyone, loving the new thread.
Well, I'm sure that you're all missing me and my tales of bottom corners (don't worry, that was ironic!) so I'm just popping in to say that I'm still here, just not running again yet. Rattling with antibiotics for this bladder infection now, the first set didn't work, so am a bit Sad and still swimming up and down the pool of self-pity.
Still, things are improving. I'm really nervous about the thought of running again! I'd finished W4, but think because I was finding it tough going and then I've missed a big chunk of time, when I do start again I'll start with a W3 to see how it goes, then probably repeat all of W4. It's clever how the programme builds up, I remember panicking about the thought of running for 3 mins before I started W3, whereas now that seems ok. Although I still can't imagine myself ever being able to run for 20 mins, let alone 30!
Anyway, sorry, I've waffled, but I'm really enjoying reading about how well you're all doing so Wine to you all!

Sennen · 18/03/2011 13:20

Hi everyone, great to hear how you're all doing :D

I'm in the middle of W4. When I ran yesterday I got pains in the front of my shins, is this shin splints? It only hurt as my feet were hitting the ground and stopped when I started to walk again.

Like you Clenched, I can't ever seeing myself running for 20mins non-stop, 5mins kills me at the moment!

I might take a couple of days off and maybe look at some new trainers, mine are 4 years old and definately past their best.

bluebump · 18/03/2011 17:37

Ooh I have lots of catching up to do. Still no running this week with DP away with work - looking forward to getting back into it next week though.

cubscout · 18/03/2011 19:02

Hey, everyone seems to be going great. Clenched - sorry you are still poorly - that's rotten. Good idea to start back at week 3. I has a break of 2 months when I started the programme first, then started again at new year and founf weeks 1 and 2 pretty easy going so once you have started getting fitter, a break does not set you right back IYSWIM.

A bigWine for me today - I've just got back and I ran 3.1 miles in.....not quite 30 mins but so near enough I'm calling it 30 mins! 30mins and 34 seconds to be completely exact. I had to really push the last 5 minutes and felt like my lungs would burst. It's surprising how long a couple of minutes can last when you're staring at a phone desperately willing the seconds and distance on. However - it does mean a lie in for me tomorrow.

Keep on running everyone.

Have just read this back before posting and I think I've been listening to too much 'Rawbert' Blush. If you don't have the podcast, try the first sentence pretending to be a 45 year old Californian guy and you'll see what I mean!

ClenchedBottom · 18/03/2011 20:05

cubscout - well done, that's fab! thanks for your kind words, too. I'm sort of desperate to get back out there, sort of dreading it.......

midtowner · 18/03/2011 22:58

Yayyyy cub that certainly counts! Well done!

justaminute · 19/03/2011 13:27

I risked a morning run today - don't think I was spotted by anyone I know. It was w6r3 - a full 25 minutes of running. I need to map my route or get some sort of pedometer to see how far I'm plodding. I felt so proud when Laura said "You can call yourself a runner now!" Smile

midtowner · 19/03/2011 14:03

Well done justaminute Smile You are a runner now Grin.

I use www.mapmyrun.com. It's a bit fiddly to start with but once you get used to it it's good.

I ordered a shoe chip - and a chip holder as I don't have Nike shoes. The chip holder has arrived, but the chip hasn't turned up yet.

Am just finishing my coffee before venturing out. It's a lovely sunny day here and 8 degrees according to yahoo weather. I'm going to do my best to crack the 3 miles in 30 mins barrier Smile

justaminute · 19/03/2011 16:24

Thanks for that midtowner. The run part of the route was 2.4 miles, so on that basis I should be able to do 5k in 30 minutes. Wow! Let us know how you get on with the chip. I hinted to dh that I wouldn't mind one as a mother's day gift - a bunch of flowers as well would be nice too mind you!

midtowner · 19/03/2011 17:04

Great stuff justaminute!

I did 2 laps of the bottom bit of the park - 5.5k in 35 minutes, which, if my maths is right, is 4.75k in 30. Maybe if I'd eaten less curry and drank less wine last night I could have done it faster Grin.

At least I have a goal to work towards - next weekend I will aim to do the same run in 34 mins Grin.

MarniesMummy · 19/03/2011 18:21

Evenin' all. Well done Cub, that counts in my book too!

Well done to everyone who's running. It really stirkes me that everyone on here is so positive. There are some nasty bugs/injuries/illnesses being dealt with on here and everyone seems to be taking them in their stride. It's impressive.

I did my park 5k today but didn't run it all,I just couldn't get into a comfortable rythmn, not too bothered though as I feel like it makes little difference as I get another crack at a 5k in two days. (I'm still working on the basis of run- rest day-run).

Have a good one all those of you who are out omorrow.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/03/2011 19:30

That didn't go too well. I am currently walking home as I had to stop just. Over half way. I'd done nearly 3 k and my left knee started hurting alot. Sort of twangy. Don't knoW why really. I was dong a 5K route.

Fed up and cold now. Be home in 10.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/03/2011 19:34

But I'll tell you something. The moon is amazingly large and bright tonight.

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/03/2011 19:39

And home. Will see how knee feels and try again day after tomoz. At least I did 3K!

OP posts:
ClenchedBottom · 19/03/2011 19:59

RatherBe - ooooh, keep an eye on that knee I think. Hope it's ok.
Justaminute - [big boomy voice emoticon] - you are a Runner now!!!!!!! Well done!

Still not decided when to venture out again. Feel much better, but my course of antibiotics doesn't finish until Monday and not sure if I should be taking it easy whilst packing drugs????

Prunnhilda · 19/03/2011 20:00

Hi everyone
Went out today at about 4.30pm, did w3 run1 so ran for 9 mins total, with 2 runs of 3 mins. The first one was harder than the second. I can see my recovery time during the walking is improving and tbh today the 2 1m30s runs were trivial - given that that's all I was doing last week, that's an improvement too. I felt really good afterwards and am positively looking forward to going out on Monday.
I agree, love that everyone is so positive - it helps a lot! Also I can't quite figure out what has changed in me, a real exercise phobe - whatever it is, I like it. I'm enjoying myself so much and I can already feel my waist is more toned (even if I've only lost a nominal 2 lbs or so and I could do with losing 2 stone!).
Have a good week's running everyone.

midtowner · 19/03/2011 20:21

Ooh piste my love, watch that knee won't you. We can't have our Head Girl/Captain laid up! Take it easy and don't push it too hard.

Clenched - same advice to you too! If you feel up to it maybe a gentle go at one of the earlier weeks to check it out?

Prunnilda, great isn't it how addictive this thing gets Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/03/2011 20:22

Everyones doing so well!!

OP posts:
YorkshireCrockpot · 19/03/2011 22:24

Agree that we're all upbeat and supportive on here. It seriously helps doesn't it? Hope piste's knee gets better soon and everyone who's feeling under the weather will be plodding before they know it! Slutty- did you do it or did you have overdose on Guinness?! Wink

Off out tomorrow morning for w7 d1, couldn't get out from under my duvet so missed my running slot. DH hasn't been out yet- his new trainers are still pristine! Hahaha I'm winning!

dubaipieeye · 20/03/2011 04:44

Piste I am channelling good vibes directly to your knee.

20 mins tomorrow - eeeekkkkeeeekkk Shock

PenguinArmy · 20/03/2011 04:55

Just saw this pop up on active convos (being the middle of the UK night, every thread that gets a post comes up on active convos)

Just wanted to say that I'm reassured to see other ladies struggle with their PFs. I have a rather complicated routine to try and deal with mine (not that I've ran for a few weeks). Maybe this thread will be the kick up the back side I need.

Good luck to all, and honestly the first few miles are the hardest. I still find a 1/2mile run harder than a 5 mile run. It's takes a whole mile just to warm up and then another mile to get into your stride.

sybilfaulty · 20/03/2011 06:31

I have my 5k for the stroke association today. Am so knackered all ready as my children aren't sleeping well and it was DD2's birthday yesterday so I was up from 4.45am with an excited 4 year old but am going to go for it and try to run the whole thing, however slowly. Wish me luck

Keep on running everyone.

sybilfaulty · 20/03/2011 06:32

all ready = already

YorkshireCrockpot · 20/03/2011 08:43

Good luck Sybil for your run today and good luck Dubai for your 20 minuiter! You can both do it!

Just got back from w7 r1 and am shattered although dd1 said that I can have a sticker now I've been on my lovely jog ( she's 2 1/2) Grin.

DH STILL not been out!

YorkshireCrockpot · 20/03/2011 08:52

Also a little in shock- ran 5k!!!!!! Grin Grin Grin
now having a Brew
